[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! This is all hypothetical and possibly silly because I’ll probably never have kids, but if I did, I’m really starting to consider [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] as a name I might use. One thing that’s bothering me though is the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association. I don’t think it’s bad thing as such, but would people automatically think I was a big [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fan and she was named after [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] Weasley?
Thanks
Hmm. That’s a tough one. I wanna tell you no, it’s totally separate, but I do think it’s most people’s first association unless they’re really familiar with [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] D’[name_f]Este[/name_f].
I don’t think it’s a bad association, though? The character goes by [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] for, like, the entire series (I don’t think they even reveal her full name until book 6?) so it shouldn’t be a dealbreaker [name_f]IMO[/name_f].
I myself love [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], but my main concern about using it [name_m]IRL[/name_m] would be people misspelling it/mistaking it as “Ginerva,” which happens all the time even on this very forum.
Still, I’d say the good outweighs the bad. It’s a really elegant and underrated name.
I love [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f], and I don’t think the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] association is important at all. I don’t think many people will know that’s [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]'s full name, and if they do she’s a good character to be associated with.
I’ve never read or seen any of the [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] books or movies, so I wouldn’t. [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] is really lovely!
[name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] is so beautiful!
Honestly, it is my first association and it’s a strong one, but I don’t think the general population is necessarily aware of the HP link. She’s just [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] 99.9% of the time. [name_m]Case[/name_m] in point: I’ve just asked my husband, who has read all the books and seen all the films, and he doesn’t know what [name_f]Ginny[/name_f]’s full name is.
Definitely usable in my book!
Thank you everyone! That’s definitely made me feel better about it!
I wonder if part of the problem is I’d be naming her after a more obscure [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f] and it bothers me a little that it wouldn’t be recognised. I guess it doesn’t really matter though really, so long as I know
Thanks again!!
A work friend just named her baby [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. I’ll admit that the HP reference was one of the first things that occurred time but I wouldn’t say it’s a deal breaker. It’s definitely a lovely name.
I admit, yes it’d be my first thought but on a broader scale, I think few would make the connection because for the most part, she’s [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] not [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. Either way, she’s a brilliant character to be associated with.
It’s a beautiful name with spunk and criminally underrated.
Thank you!!
When I saw this my first thought was [name_f]Ginny[/name_f] Weasley, but I don’t think a lot of people know her full first name is [name_f]Ginevra[/name_f]. I think it’s usuable, and a great name.
