After 3 boys, we’re finally having a girl (!) but we’re having the hardest time thinking of a name we both agree on. As you can see in my signature, our boys all have fairly traditional names, which I’d like to stick with. It doesn’t have to be biblical, most of our boy names just turned out that way.
Currently, our short list consists of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f], [name_f]Cosette[/name_f], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], and [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. I really don’t feel like any of these are “the one”, though. It’s been tough to find a feminine name to work with such a strong surname.
Hmm… Your boys have lovely traditional names so already I’d scrub [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u] (trendy borrowed boy’s names) and [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] (a made up nickname by [name_m]Victor[/name_m] [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] for his character Euphrasie, rather like calling a child [name_f]Pet[/name_f], Diddums or Twinkle.).
If you like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] but want something more unusual, how about [name_f]Caterina[/name_f]? Or Christina even?
Hmm…
Caterina
Christina
Marianne
Georgina
Scarlett
Julia
Helena
I love [name_f]Margaret[/name_f], nn [name_f]Maggie[/name_f], but my husband’s not a fan. I also like [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f].
Another on my list is [name_u]Whitney[/name_u], nn [name_f]Winnie[/name_f], but I’m still on the fence about it.
Out of your list I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] sounds brilliant with your sons’ names. It is also my absolute favourite name It is definitely the most traditional of your choices.
Some other suggestions:
[name_f]Christina[/name_f]
[name_f]Louise[/name_f]
[name_f]Maria[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
Your boys have ultra classic, timeless, no-nonsense names, so I wouldn’t venture too far from that. [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] would be absolutely perfect here (and you could call her [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_f]Kitty[/name_f], [name_f]Kaylie[/name_f], [name_u]Kai[/name_u], [name_f]Kaia[/name_f], or Trinny f you wanted a more “modern” nickname). [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] works, too.
Things like [name_u]Avery[/name_u], [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] and [name_u]Whitney[/name_u] don’t really work in your sibset as first names [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. The syle is just too different! One of my major pet peeves is families like the Duggars and the Kennedys, where the sons have the classic/professional names and daughters get the trendy/dated ones. I always feel like that conveys subconscious expectations for the children.
Something like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] would be a nice compromise.
Some suggestions:
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Emily[/name_f]
[name_f]Catharina[/name_f]
[name_f]Katharina[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] “[name_u]Charlie[/name_u]”
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f], nickname “[name_f]Callie[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Carly[/name_f]” (since you like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]")
Chloë
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] “[name_f]Addy[/name_f]”
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] or [name_f]Wilhelmina[/name_f] “[name_f]Winnie[/name_f]”
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Eveline[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f], nickname “[name_f]May[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Molly[/name_f]”
[name_f]Amity[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] “[name_u]Mattie[/name_u]”
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], nickname “[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Libby[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Ella[/name_f]”, “[name_f]Lizzy[/name_f]”
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f], “Aury”
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] “[name_u]Rory[/name_u]”
Ok, I think you all have pushed me over the edge with [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]!! It’s been my favorite for a while and one of the few DH and I could agree on. And like a few of you mentioned, it works best with the boys’ names.
I love [name_f]Cosette[/name_f]! I like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cate[/name_f] a lot too though. Some middle name suggestions if you’ve decided on [name_f]Catherine[/name_f]…
I think [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is perfect with [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]! What a perfect set. A few other ideas:
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Julia[/name_f]
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] (not my favorite classic name, personally, but I think [name_f]Maggie[/name_f] and [name_f]Greta[/name_f] are sweet, not to mention [name_f]Maisie[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], and [name_f]May[/name_f]…)
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]
[name_f]Helene[/name_f]/[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
I really like the sound of [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] Pinto and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] Pinto, but [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] is pretty perfect! I would love to meet a little [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
No name suggestions from me-- I do love [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] for you-- but I would just caution that with a surname like Pinto, which is an animal, a car, and obviously nature-related, I would avoid any similar middle. So no nouns, adjectives, colors, or nature-related names like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Blythe[/name_f], etc.
