I’m struggling to find a baby girl name I like because my last name is cutsie. I would love your thoughts and suggestions that aren’t too sweet sounding.
Last name is [name_m]Doll[/name_m].
While we are having fun referring to her as “Baby Doll” she needs a name in 3 weeks!
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. If it makes you feel better I know of a couple different families with the surname Dahl - pronounced like [name_m]Doll[/name_m] - and I really never thought about it before. Funny both of these families had boys though!
I like all of your options, though probably my favorite would be [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] or [name_u]Louise[/name_u].
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] makes me smile because my little sister is named [name_f]Anna[/name_f], and a few months after she was born I was given a new doll and named it [name_f]Anna[/name_f], after her. But this became really confusing for everyone so the doll became “Anna Doll”
I like your last name! I feel like something longer is better, but it’s not a necessity.
Here are my thoughts on what you’ve got-
Josephine-Josephine [name_m]Doll[/name_m] sounds like a 40s movie star. I love love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]. It’s so classy & glamorous. I’m not personally a huge fan of Jo/Joey/Josie. Are you? I’m not sure if at least one of those is unavoidable.
Louise-I like this too. Another old fashioned classy gem. It’s a little spunky but also a little librarian-ish. Which I totally love about it. I like the nn [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] for [name_u]Louise[/name_u], but [name_f]Lulu[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] is maybe not great.
Samantha-It doesn’t excite me, but it’s not a bad name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] feels a bit 80s/90s. And I love [name_u]Sam[/name_u] for a boy, so the idea of [name_u]Sam[/name_u] for a girl is kind of bland to me. I can see the appeal though. And [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] isn’t bad.
Anna-A lovely classic. A bit over done, but for a good reason. [name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] isn’t bad. I do think that something longer sounds less cutesy though.
A few more ideas that you may like-
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f]
Eloise-On one hand I find this more cutesy than [name_u]Louise[/name_u], but I also think that it flows better w/Doll because it’s three syllables.
[name_f]Eloisa[/name_f]!
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanora[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]
Josefina-I prefer [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], but this is pretty too & something to consider. A little fancier.
I like these with the last name
[name_f]Veronica[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Justine[/name_f]
[name_u]Laurel[/name_u]
[name_u]Arden[/name_u]
[name_u]Avery[/name_u]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Joanne[/name_f]
[name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_u]Robin[/name_u]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_u]Alma[/name_u]
I would personally avoid any of the American [name_f]Girl[/name_f] dolls names, including [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], because we often talked about them like that, do you have a [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] doll? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you have a [name_f]Felicity[/name_f] doll?
[name_f]My[/name_f] favorites from your list are [name_u]Louise[/name_u] and [name_f]Anna[/name_f]! I’ll throw in [name_f]Louisa[/name_f] as a suggestion too–to my ear it flows even a little bit better with your last name. I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] works well too, i’s just not my personal favorite. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] + [name_m]Doll[/name_m] immediately made me think of the American [name_f]Girl[/name_f] doll.
I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is my favorite of the bunch.
[name_u]Louise[/name_u] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] are really cute too, though I agree with the person who said [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] might not be ideal if American [name_f]Girl[/name_f] dolls are still big. [name_f]Samantha[/name_f] does feel a little 80s-90s, but it’s a lovely name, and I don’t think the association is as strong as it is with [name_u]Ashley[/name_u], [name_f]Jessica[/name_f], [name_f]Britney[/name_f], [name_f]Tiffany[/name_f], etc.
I’m going to go against the grain here and say I don’t love [name_f]Anna[/name_f] Doll; it sounds like a medication to me (e.g. Panadol).
Aww, [name_u]Baby[/name_u] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] is the sweetest nickname! Of your choices, I think [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] D0ll is my favorite–sweet, with a lot of cute nns (my favorites are [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] and [name_f]Posy[/name_f], but [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and [name_f]Fia[/name_f], [name_f]Effie[/name_f], [name_f]Fifi[/name_f], etc., are all cute too!). A few other ideas:
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Vera[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Camellia[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Maeve[/name_f] D0ll (or [name_f]Maeva[/name_f] to improve the choppy flow?)
[name_f]Petra[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Magdalen[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Zenobia[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Philomena[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] D0ll (too cutesy?)
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Winifred[/name_f] D0ll (Winnie D0ll reminds me of a B0nnie I know with your same surname… I always thought her name worked well, and [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] is so sweet! [name_u]Winter[/name_u] D0ll doesn’t really work, but I think [name_f]Winifred[/name_f] would be nice, and either [name_f]Winnie[/name_f] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] would be sweet!)
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] D0ll
[name_u]Vivien[/name_u] D0ll (love this!)
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] D0ll (love the idea of a [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] D0ll!)
[name_f]Georgina[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] D0ll
[name_f]Odette[/name_f] D0ll
I love [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m]
I think choosing a name that feels strong and has longevity would be good with the surname [name_m]Doll[/name_m]. Maybe a stable classic? Also I would team [name_m]Doll[/name_m] with a name that is longer I feel something like [name_f]Evie[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] would be too ‘cute’ but [name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] [name_m]Doll[/name_m] is lovely.
You’ve had a few suggestions so count any repeats as me being in agreement with the berries
