Girl name to go with Eliana, Timothy & Aaralyn

[name]Hi[/name] all,
We’re expecting baby #4 and don’t have a solid name picked out for either gender (though plenty of ideas and “maybes”). We won’t find out the gender for another month, but I absolutely love names and I really want to get some ideas.

Our kids’ names are [name]Eliana[/name] ([name]Ellie[/name]), [name]Timothy[/name] & Aaralyn ([name]Arah[/name]).
If baby is a boy, my husband really wants to name him [name]Titus[/name]. This isn’t in stone yet but it’s growing on me. We also like [name]Isaac[/name] and have a few more ideas for boys’ names (we like the strong biblical boys’ names). HOWEVER, I have no idea what to name her if she’s a girl. I always find it difficult coming up with girls’ names because I like beautiful, unique names that aren’t overused and that aren’t too frou frou. Any ideas?

I like [name]Evangeline[/name] quite a bit but DH isn’t sold… and I also like [name]Esme[/name], but I’m afraid to use it because of the dreaded twilight connotations. I love [name]Eleanor[/name], with NN [name]Nora[/name]… but dh thinks it’s too close to [name]Eliana[/name]. :frowning: Have always loved [name]Isobel[/name]/[name]Isabella[/name], etc but those names are way too popular now (also thanks to Twilight… grrr)

Here’s my comprehensive list of girls’ names for anyone interested in critiquing or adding more. You might notice a theme with faith-centered names as we are Christians and always looking for ways to incorporate our faith and our thanks to God for blessings us with these precious gems We also have names that could honor family members on the list, plus extras that are just plain pretty.

EDIT: Newly added - Ivory (meaning pale, white, pure) - I can’t decide if I love this or if it’s sort of silly/trashy, but I had a dream about a little girl named Ivory that looked like one of my kids (we’re all really fair with light hair and blue eyes) and it’s sort of been sticking with me.

Nobody? Please? :frowning:

[name]Evangeline[/name] is such a beautiful name. I considered it as a middle myself but the meaning is a bit off for me and DH personally.

I actually know someone with two daughters named [name]Elianna[/name] (nn [name]Ellie[/name]) and [name]Norah[/name]. They seem to work for her so far

Thanks. I love [name]Nora[/name]/[name]Norah[/name] but I wasn’t sure about using it on it’s own rather than as a nickname for [name]Eleanor[/name]/[name]Eleanora[/name], especially since our other three children have long (3 syllable) names and the girls both have 2 syllable nicknames. I do agree that [name]Eleanora[/name] is too similar to [name]Eliana[/name] but I really didn’t think [name]Eleanor[/name] on it’s own was that similar… [name]Don[/name]'t really like any of the other “[name]Nora[/name]” names though like [name]Leanora[/name] and [name]Honora[/name]. Definitely considering just using [name]Nora[/name] on it’s own though if DH won’t go for [name]Eleanor[/name] and if we can’t find another name we like more!

Confused why [name]Elisabeth[/name] and [name]Isabella[/name] are listed with different meanings. [name]Both[/name] are forms of the same name?

I’ll list my favourites of each category and then some suggestions within the category?
4-syllable names:
[name]Elisabeth[/name] - Though slight preference to [name]Elizabeth[/name]. Only other flaw is the shared [name]El[/name]- beginning, but I do love the name.
[name]Isabella[/name] - If it didn’t have to be four syllables, though, I prefer [name]Isabel[/name].
[name]Alexandra[/name] (Greek) Defender of mankind

Additional ideas:
[name]Ariadne[/name] - Greek “most holy”
[name]Veronica[/name] - “bringing victory”
[name]Alethea[/name] - “truth”
[name]Raphaela[/name] - “healed by G-d”
[name]Celestia[/name] - “heaven; heavenly”
[name]Angelica[/name]/[name]Angelina[/name]

3-syllable names:
[name]Rhiannon[/name] (Welsh, “great queen”)
[name]Aurora[/name] (Latin: [name]Light[/name] from the dark, [name]Dawn[/name])
[name]Amity[/name] (Latin - Friendship, harmony)
Suggestions:
[name]Verity[/name] - “truth”
[name]Yonina[/name] - Hebrew, “dove”
[name]Zakia[/name] - Hebrew “pure” and also Arabic “pure”

After DH’s mom ([name]Mae[/name])
[name]Esmae[/name]/Esmé/[name]Esmay[/name] - Pretty. I also like [name]Esmeralda[/name] as a long form, meaning “emerald”
[name]Maya[/name] - Pronounced “my-ah” as far as I know?
Suggestions:
[name]Maybelle[/name] - lovable. Variant of [name]Mabel[/name].
[name]Mayim[/name] - “water” (definitely my-eem though)

After my great grandmother ([name]Helen[/name]), meaning “[name]Light[/name]” or “Honoring God”
*[name]Nora[/name] - Pretty.
[name]Helene[/name] - Pretty as a MN.
[name]Lena[/name] - Like it a lot, underused.

After my mom ([name]Angela[/name]) & meaning “Messenger of God” or “Bearer of good news”
*[name]Evangeline[/name] - [name]Lovely[/name].
Suggestions: [name]Angelica[/name], [name]Angelina[/name], [name]Seraphina[/name]?

After my dad ([name]Calvin[/name])
[name]Callie[/name] - I think it is so gracious and pretty, but prefer it as a nickname.
Suggestions:
[name]Calanthe[/name] - Greek “beautiful flower” also a reference to a type of orchid.
[name]Calandra[/name] - “lark”
[name]Calista[/name]/[name]Calixta[/name] - “most beautiful”

What about [name]Aurelia[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]?

Thanks! [name]Aurelia[/name] is one I hadn’t thought of.
Stripedsocks I know that [name]Isabella[/name] and [name]Elisabeth[/name] are very similar with almost exactly the same meaning (consecrated to God/My God is a vow… I’ve also seen both names with swapped meanings but I think of consecration and a vow as basically the same thing…?) Anyway, still slightly different sounds and both names that are probably too mainstream to use (especially [name]Isabella[/name]) - I do like [name]Isobel[/name] quite a bit though - forgot to add that to my “3 syllables” list!! Thank you for your input! That was very helpful. You can tell I like the vowel names but that makes it harder to choose names that won’t sound too similar to [name]Eliana[/name] and Aaralyn (pronounced [name]Air[/name]-uh-lyn). I LOVED your suggestion of [name]Ariadne[/name] but I can already imagine my DH telling me it’s way too similar to [name]Arah[/name]'s name. Sigh. Names are so fun but so difficult when you consider the fact that you’re determining what a human being will be called for the rest of his/her life! lol.

It sounds like you have similar taste in names to me. My children are named [name]Lucy[/name], [name]Nathan[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Eliana[/name]. I also prefer strong biblical names for boys and more feminine names for girls. [name]Lucy[/name]'s middle name is [name]Arella[/name], which we picked for the meaning. In Hebrew it means messenger of God or colloquially “angel”. This also sounds similar to your second daughter, Aaralynn, to me. Good luck and consider [name]Isaac[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name]!

[name]Isaac[/name] is on our boys’ name list - both hubby and I love it. Thanks for the suggestion of [name]Lucy[/name] as well. I agree that [name]Arella[/name] sounds similar to Aaralyn. I hadn’t heard that one before! Great taste in names

Since you have a lot to choose from, I would eliminate names starting with E or A and also the [name]El[/name]- names (because to similar to [name]Eliana[/name]) and the names ending in -N sounds (because too similar to Aralyn). I also prefer [name]Dorothea[/name] (nn [name]Dory[/name], [name]Thea[/name], etc.) to [name]Theodore[/name] because of [name]Timothy[/name], and because this could be honoring to [name]Doris[/name] too.

The first name that came to mind with your sibset was [name]Isadora[/name] (nn [name]Issy[/name], [name]Dora[/name], [name]Dory[/name]), etc. It’s similar to [name]Isabelle[/name] and also honoring to [name]Doris[/name]. Another name that I think would work well is [name]Viveca[/name] (instead of [name]Vivian[/name])-- it has the same meaning but the ending makes it fit better with the sibset, and the [name]CA[/name] and V could make it honoring to [name]Calvin[/name] too.

The names from your list that I would use with your sibset are [name]Rowena[/name], [name]Helena[/name], and [name]Calista[/name] (although I prefer it spelled [name]Callista[/name]).

Some other suggestions:

Instead of [name]Elizabeth[/name]-- [name]Bettina[/name]
Instead of [name]Clara[/name] (because too close to [name]Arah[/name])-- [name]Clarissa[/name], [name]Clarita[/name], [name]Clary[/name]
[name]Magdalena[/name] as a longer form of [name]Lena[/name] and honoring to [name]Mae[/name]
Instead of [name]Evangeline[/name]-- [name]Genevieve[/name] or [name]Geneva[/name]-- nns [name]Eve[/name], [name]Genna[/name], etc. Also, [name]Geneva[/name] could be a very subtle way to honor [name]Calvin[/name] (since [name]Calvin[/name] was from [name]Geneva[/name]).

Some other names you might like:

[name]Beatrice[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name]
[name]Felice[/name], [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Francesca[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Marina[/name]
[name]Petra[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Tabitha[/name]

Some interesting and very thoughtful ideas. Thank you all!

Trying to narrow down the list… I’ve cut out a few but I’m not as decisive as I want to be here! I keep adding more, too… lol

*[name]Eleanor[/name] (pronounced ella-nore - nickname [name]Nora[/name])

              • Ileanor/Ilinor (wondering if using the “I” instead of an “E” would make it less similar to our daughter [name]Eliana[/name]'s name)*
                *[name]Evangeline[/name] - Nicknames [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Evvie[/name], [name]Annie[/name], [name]Lina[/name]

Short names:

[name]Cora[/name] (Greek: “Filled heart”)
[name]Hallie[/name] (“a short form of the exclamation ‘Hallelujah’ meaning ‘[name]Praise[/name] the [name]Lord[/name]’”)

[name]Lena[/name] (Hebrew/Old Greek: [name]Bright[/name], [name]Sunshine[/name], Illustrious)
[name]Addie[/name] (Hebrew: Created by God)
[name]Alma[/name] (Latin: Kind soul)
[name]Esmae[/name]/Esmé/[name]Esmay[/name] (Old french: “[name]Beloved[/name]”)
[name]Ismay[/name]/Ismae (Latin & French Variant of [name]Esme[/name], same meaning but I wonder if using the I will make it different enough from the Twilight films to not always be associated with them??)
[name]Callie[/name]: (Greek “Beautiful”)
[name]Calla[/name] (Greek: “Beauty”)
*[name]Nora[/name]/[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Helene[/name] (middle name)

Any and all suggestions are welcome

I really love [name]Ismay[/name] [name]Coralie[/name] and [name]Rhiannon[/name]. I like [name]Leanora[/name] too- have you considered [name]Lenore[/name]? What about [name]Annabel[/name]?

I don’t know if you’re looking for combos, but I think these are stunning:

[name]Annabel[/name] [name]Verity[/name]
[name]Coralie[/name] [name]Mae[/name]
[name]Ismay[/name] [name]Lenore[/name]
[name]Rhiannon[/name] [name]Eleanor[/name]
[name]Annika[/name] [name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Coraline[/name] [name]Helene[/name]

I did consider [name]Lenore[/name] but I think without the vowel sound either at the beginning or the end it loses the feminine quality that goes best with [name]Eliana[/name] and Aaralyn. [name]Eleanor[/name]/Ilanor sound prettier to me, but again, don’t want to sound too close to [name]Eliana[/name]…
[name]Leanora[/name]/[name]Lenora[/name] I like though, and I like your suggestion of [name]Lenore[/name] as a middle name ([name]Ismay[/name] [name]Lenore[/name] sounds fabulous), though I would then lose the nickname [name]Nora[/name] which I sooo love…

I like [name]Coralie[/name] [name]Mae[/name] with the nickname [name]Cora[/name] and I also like your suggestion of [name]Verity[/name] as a middle name rather than a first name! Not sold on [name]Annabel[/name] - for some reason it reminds me of a cow’s name which I know is awful… I don’t believe I’ve ever heard it on a person, and I’ve only ever heard it in cartoons as a kid to reference a farm animal (cow or dog) which has sort of ruined it for me :frowning: I can think of a lot of other names on my list that would sound pretty with [name]Verity[/name] as a middle though!

Thanks! This is getting more fun.

4-syllable names:

[name]Elisabeth[/name] A bit mild compared to your other names.
[name]Isabella[/name] Same as above
[name]Theadora[/name] I never liked this.
[name]Alexandra[/name] Really pretty.
[name]Aurelia[/name] [name]One[/name] of my favorites! I’m not sure if it would be hard to say, “Aaralyn! [name]Aurelia[/name]!” though. humm

3-syllable names:
[name]Adelaine[/name] Addalie/[name]Adalie[/name]/[name]Adelie[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Adelina[/name]
[name]Annalie[/name] or [name]Annalise[/name]
Of all of these names I like [name]Annalise[/name] and [name]Adelina[/name] the best. ” However, my own daughter has a legitimate name that combines the best of both of them… her name is Adelise. It is the original form of [name]Alice[/name] and means [name]Noble[/name]. So that would be my pick personally.

[name]Lillian[/name] is a little stuffy for me, and [name]Lilly[/name] is over used. If you called her [name]Lilah[/name] for short I’d like it though.
Cerian Is a little odd and people would call her [name]Carrie[/name].
[name]Emilia[/name]/[name]Amelia[/name] Really pretty, but I think a little too similar to your daughters name.
[name]Rhiannon[/name] I personally think the singer is a bad namesake. I wouldn’t want my daughter associated with her.
Rhiannwen This is different enough from [name]Rhiannon[/name] that I think it works. But I don’t think it is the best name on our list.
[name]Vivian[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name] I just never cared for this name.
[name]Annika[/name] I have a secret name crush on [name]Annika[/name]. It makes me think of Sci Fi stuff. Anakin Skywalker from [name]Star[/name] Wars, 7 of 9’s name before she was borg ([name]Star[/name] trek) Was [name]Annika[/name]. lol guilty pleasure name.
[name]Abigail[/name] too stiff. I never liked this one.
[name]Jocelyn[/name] Another one I find myself loving. I think [name]Josey[/name] is an adorable nick name. You may also like [name]Josette[/name], it is a spin off of [name]Josephine[/name] and holds the same meaning. I really like it a lot.
[name]Aurora[/name]- [name]Love[/name] [name]Rory[/name], but not crazy about [name]Aurora[/name]. A lot of people seem to struggle with saying it. I knew an [name]Aurora[/name] growing up and every time I heard her name is sounded unnatural no matter who said it. [name]Lorelei[/name] is a fun way to get [name]Rory[/name], or even [name]Lori[/name] which is equally adorable.

Callawyn/Callawen [name]Love[/name] the nick name and the meaning. ” For that alone I think Callawyn could certainly grow on me. (use wyn. It is the female version.) Kind of hard to say with Aaralyn
[name]Amity[/name] – Mean kids may call her “Amityville Horror” If they don’t like her. The Amityville Horror was a movie in the 80s and they redid it a few years back. Terriby disturbing story based on real life events. I do think they will make another remake in 10 years.
[name]Elowen[/name] – Makes me think of [name]Ellen[/name]… Which is fine but a bit dull. It also makes me think of [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings which is fun. I’m not sold on [name]Elowen[/name] though. I also think it’s a bit matchy with [name]Eliana[/name] AND Aaralyn.
[name]Rowena[/name]/Rowenna Makes me think of [name]Harry[/name] [name]Potter[/name] (Which I love.) I have a friend who goes by [name]Ro[/name], such a cute nick name! I could get behind Rowenna.
Calianne/Callianne Similair to Callawyn, but the meaning isn’t as pretty. It still has the nickname [name]Calla[/name] which is nice but of the two Callwyn wins for me.
[name]Ivory[/name] is a little pretentious to me. Could make a nice middle name though.

2-syllable names:

[name]Cora[/name] (Gorgeous name. I like it a lot
[name]Clara[/name] Not as special as some of your others.
[name]Hallie[/name] I didn’t know that was the meaning! I really like that. [name]Hallie[/name] has always been one that I liked. It’s pretty, but it’s “normal” I do think you have some other winners on your list though.
[name]Gemma[/name] I really like this one. I knew a girl named [name]Gemma[/name] and she really was wonderful.
[name]Anwen[/name] I don’t like this. Doesn’t go with Aaralyn anyway.
[name]Audra[/name] I really don’t like this. It sounds like “Odd Rah”
[name]Lena[/name] Beautiful meaning. This is my daughters favorite name (She’s 6 and has loved it since she was 4!) I don’t think [name]Eliana[/name] and [name]Lena[/name] sound the best though. ”

After DH’s mom ([name]Mae[/name])
[name]Esmae[/name]/Esmé/[name]Esmay[/name] A little too twilight. But I love [name]Mae[/name]! Could you just use [name]Mae[/name] as a middle name? Or maybe in a double barrel? [name]Cora[/name] [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Eliana[/name] is adorable!
[name]Ismay[/name]/Ismae - Looks too forgein. I never cared for most I names though.
[name]Maya[/name] very pretty.

After my great grandmother ([name]Helen[/name]), meaning “[name]Light[/name]” or “Honoring God”
*[name]Nora[/name]
*[name]Eleanor[/name]
I like them both. But like a previous poster said, [name]Eleanor[/name] and [name]Eliana[/name] don’t play well.
[name]Helene[/name] (middle name)
[name]Helena[/name] (nickname [name]Lena[/name])
I bet your using the “Hell-EN-ah” pronunciation? Have you considered, “el-EN-ah?” SO gorgeous!!  [name]Eliana[/name] and [name]Helena[/name] may be pretty close. But I adore [name]Helena[/name] pronounced that way.

[name]Ilene[/name]/[name]Eileen[/name]/[name]Ilena[/name] (not crazy about it at all)

*[name]Evangeline[/name] Not digging with [name]Eliana[/name].
Angelie Cute for a middle name. You have too many other nice names for this to end up as the first name.
What about [name]Angelina[/name]? [name]Angelina[/name] Ballerina would make a CUTE nursery theme too!

After my grandmothers ([name]Alma[/name] and [name]Doris[/name])
[name]Alma[/name] (Hebrew: “Kind soul”) I would only use [name]Alma[/name] in the middle…
[name]Dorothea[/name] (thea for short) (Greek: “Gift of God”) I really like [name]Dorothy[/name] but I’m not crazy about [name]Dorothea[/name]. [name]Dorthy[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is cute!

After my dad ([name]Calvin[/name])

Have you considered [name]Calista[/name]? So pretty and one of my favorites!
