My fiance and I are getting married in [name_u]March[/name_u], and will start TTC after the wedding. We’ve already got a boy’s name picked out, but I’m just compiling a list of names I like for girls. There is a naming tradition in my family where girls are given a name ending in I. So my mom is [name_f]Shelli[/name_f], her sisters are [name_f]Melodi[/name_f] and [name_f]Staci[/name_f], and I’m Mallori. My sister is the exception to the rule, she’s [name_f]Annie[/name_f], but my mom though [name_f]Anni[/name_f] looked a bit too odd. I’d like to continue this tradition with any future daughters, but am having trouble finding names I like that also look alright spelled with an ‘i’ at the end. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] is a favorite of mine, but I don’t like how [name_f]Rubi[/name_f] looks (mainly because there’s a shoe store in NZ called [name_f]Rubi[/name_f] shoes). [name_f]Jacy[/name_f] is another favorite of mine (has been since I was young), but does [name_f]Jaci[/name_f] look alright? Or is [name_f]Jayci[/name_f] better? Any other suggestions? My style is a bit all over the place, so feel free to throw anything out there
I love [name_f]Jaci[/name_f] with that spelling. Adorable. Maybe ones that rhyme with that like [name_f]Laci[/name_f] and [name_f]Maci[/name_f]?
My favourite ‘i’ ending name is [name_f]Sarai[/name_f] (sur-EYE), although that doesn’t seem like your style.
I’m not a huge fan of [name_f]Jacy[/name_f], [name_f]Jaci[/name_f], or [name_f]Jayci[/name_f]. It feels very dated, and doesn’t look right. I prefer choosing a name that naturally ends in I than altering the spelling just to fulfill a requirement. Otherwise, to me, the I ending looks very nickname-y. [name_u]Danny[/name_u], for example, looks like a full name. [name_u]Dani[/name_u] looks like a nickname. It’d be breaking tradition, but would you consider using a full, non-I name that has a -i nickname ([name_f]Danielle[/name_f] nn [name_u]Dani[/name_u], for instance)? This offers so many more options.
Here are some legitimate -i names: [name_f]Suki[/name_f], [name_f]Naomi[/name_f], [name_f]Leilani[/name_f], [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], [name_f]Mai[/name_f], [name_u]Tali[/name_u], [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], [name_u]Rani[/name_u] (prn. rahn-eye), [name_f]Kairi[/name_f], [name_u]Adi[/name_u] (ah-dee)
Ones that aren’t names by themselves, but look and feel like full names: [name_u]Lexi[/name_u], [name_u]Cali[/name_u], Livi, [name_f]Miri[/name_f]
I think I like [name_f]Jaci[/name_f] better than [name_f]Jayci[/name_f] and I like both better than [name_f]Rubi[/name_f] (but that’s just me). Some of these look odd to me, but I’ll throw them out just the same.
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Carli[/name_f]
[name_f]Carri[/name_f]
[name_f]Cori[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
[name_f]Gigi[/name_f]
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Joni[/name_f]
[name_f]Lilli[/name_f]
[name_u]Lexi[/name_u]
[name_f]Kiki[/name_f]
[name_u]Niki[/name_u]/[name_f]Nicki[/name_f]
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Tori[/name_f]
[name_f]Vicki[/name_f]
I some of those are cute, but I feel like I’d use something that won’t be dated in five years’ time, which I feel like most of them will be. Not because of the actual name itself, but because of the spelling itself. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about names that naturally end in the letter “I”? Like:
[name_f]Naomi[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] (by far my favorite! Eleni is on my own list. I love it. She can be anything from Ellie to Ella to Leni (Lenny) to even Lili)
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f]
[name_f]Leilani[/name_f]
[name_f]Nalani[/name_f]
[name_f]Sarai[/name_f]
[name_f]Behati[/name_f]
Aikaterini (the original form of [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], I believe!)
[name_u]Ari[/name_u] (although I prefer it as a nn for something fuller and more feminine, like [name_f]Arianne[/name_f]/[name_f]Ariana[/name_f], [name_f]Arabella[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]/[name_f]Aurelie[/name_f], etc.)
[name_f]Eleri[/name_f] (eh-LARE-ee, I believe, is the proper Welsh pronunciation)
[name_f]Lili[/name_f] (the Welsh spelling of [name_f]Lily[/name_f]; depending on the culture, it can be said like [name_f]Lily[/name_f] or [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-lee. The Welsh pronunciation is like [name_f]Lily[/name_f]; otherwise I think it’s [name_u]Lee[/name_u]-lee)
[name_f]Miri[/name_f] (maybe this is better as a nn–for [name_f]Miriam[/name_f], [name_f]Mira/name_f, [name_f]Mirielle[/name_f]/[name_f]Mireille[/name_f], etc., but I still think [name_f]Miri[/name_f]'s adorable!)
Jia-li (maybe a bit out there, but I always thought it was such a beautiful Chinese name! It means “good and beautiful”)
[name_u]Kai[/name_u] (I like it better for a boy, but I could see it working as a unisex name)
Kailani
Kalei (a lot of Hawaiian names would work, actually)
[name_f]Mai[/name_f] (love this as an alternative to [name_f]Mae[/name_f]/[name_f]May[/name_f]! It’s still got that sweet, classic, simple vibe, but it’s a bit more exotic. I love that it means “ocean” or “elegance”. It’s so pretty. There’s also [name_f]Mei[/name_f], which means “beautiful”. I believe [name_f]Mai[/name_f] is said like “my” and [name_f]Mei[/name_f] like “[name_f]May[/name_f]”.)
[name_f]Nayeli[/name_f] (sweet Native American name; it means “I love you”)
[name_f]Orli[/name_f]
[name_u]Tali[/name_u] (multiple origins, and this is one I don’t especially mind the spelling. I think [name_u]Tali[/name_u]'s adorable. My sister’s a [name_u]Tallie[/name_u]. I obviously like that spelling best, but I think [name_u]Tally[/name_u] and [name_f]Talie[/name_f] are cute, too.)
Tzofi (I like [name_f]Tzofia[/name_f] more, but Tzofi fits your requirements)
Good luck!
I’d vote for a name traditionally spelled with an I.[name_f]Naomi[/name_f] or [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] are my favorite
Jaymi (this is my friends name with the spelling)
[name_f]Lili[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosi[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxi[/name_f]
[name_f]Behati[/name_f] (I’m seconding this name)
[name_f]Noelani[/name_f]
I like [name_f]Jayci[/name_f]
[name_f]Paisli[/name_f] (alternate spelling of [name_u]Paisley[/name_u] which is less reminiscent of the fabric)
Nanami
[name_m]Rui[/name_m]
[name_f]Yui[/name_f]
[name_u]Kai[/name_u]
[name_f]Indi[/name_f]
Everli
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f]
[name_f]Leni[/name_f]
[name_f]Demi[/name_f]
[name_f]Luci[/name_f]
[name_f]Araceli[/name_f]
Sidoni
Reveri
[name_f]Winni[/name_f]
That said, I’m not a fan of names ending in i spelling unless that’s the normal spelling, such as with many Japanese names like Nanami, or something like [name_f]Eleni[/name_f]/[name_f]Araceli[/name_f]
jayci is easier:
shalini
ruhani
madani
mohini
dharini
hemani
shayali
mayuri
emani
sohani
ramayani
malani
saheli
sarasi
kalyani
amri
ameri
amari
shamali
mansi
mandini
kalyani
mandi
[name_u]Tali[/name_u] and [name_u]Tallie[/name_u]/[name_u]Tally[/name_u] are pronounced differently. [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] and [name_u]Tally[/name_u] rhyme with alley. [name_u]Tali[/name_u] is a Hebrew name meaning dew (“tal” means dew in Hebrew) and is pronounced tah-lee. There is no emphasis on either syllable; it is often mispronounced as TAWL-ee, which it is not.
The link I found listed [name_u]Tali[/name_u] as an Arabic name meaning “the next” (as well as being a form of [name_u]Tal[/name_u]). Still, the pronunciation is the same as the Hebrew [name_u]Tali[/name_u]. I automatically assumed they were all the same, but they wouldn’t have to be. And honestly, [name_u]Tali[/name_u] could still be a nn for [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] or [name_f]Tallulah[/name_f], and could still be pronounced the same as [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] or [name_u]Tally[/name_u] or [name_f]Talie[/name_f], if one wished.
My name is actually [name_f]Natalie[/name_f], and my nickname and Hebrew name [name_u]Tali[/name_u]. Americans often mispronounce it, though never as [name_u]Tally[/name_u] or [name_f]Talie[/name_f], just as tawl-ee with the emphasis on the first syllable, though Australians and Brits are fine with it.
I also like the name others have suggested. My favorites are [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]/[name_f]Lorelai[/name_f], [name_f]Eleni[/name_f], [name_f]Noemi[/name_f], [name_f]Sarai[/name_f], [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], and [name_f]Jaci[/name_f] (spelled like that).A close friend goes by [name_u]Lexi[/name_u].
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Keri[/name_f] (I know it’s a bit dated but I love it)
[name_f]Mari[/name_f]
[name_f]Kati[/name_f]
[name_f]Cadi[/name_f]
[name_f]Christi[/name_f]
[name_f]Demi[/name_f]*
[name_f]Suri[/name_f]
Of course you could start you own tradition and decide to end all the girls name with others letters, but it’s up to you.
Good [name_m]Luck[/name_m]!
From the names already mentioned I like [name_f]Heidi[/name_f], [name_f]Nalani[/name_f], and [name_f]Naomi[/name_f].
Other suggestions:
[name_f]Amani[/name_f]/[name_f]Imani[/name_f]
[name_f]Avani[/name_f]
[name_f]Valeri[/name_f]
[name_f]Kelli[/name_f]
[name_f]Flori[/name_f]
I agree with previous posters – use a legitimate ‘i’ name instead of mangling the spelling. Name traditions are nice, but they all end eventually. This one is particularly dated. Clearly your mother already made one exception. Why don’t you use an ‘ie’ too, since it’s now within the purview of the tradition?
If you still want to use an i-ending name, how about [name_f]Adelei[/name_f]?
[name_f]Maci[/name_f]
[name_u]Alani[/name_u]
[name_f]Raini[/name_f]
[name_f]Sari[/name_f]
[name_f]Kandi[/name_f]
[name_f]Brittani[/name_f]
[name_f]Laci[/name_f]
[name_u]Kari[/name_u]
[name_f]Sophi[/name_f]
[name_f]Cassi[/name_f]
[name_f]Becki[/name_f]
[name_f]Betti[/name_f]
[name_f]Betsi[/name_f]
Audri
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] - my personal preference would be to choose names like this, that are normally spelt with a final I
If ie names are good because of [name_f]Annie[/name_f], then maybe something like
[name_f]Sophie[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f]
If all it needs is to end in that -ee sound then that frees up things like
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_f]Verity[/name_f]
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleni[/name_f] is a great choice. I have a beautiful, stylish greek friend by that name. It’s the Greek form of [name_f]Helen[/name_f] (Think [name_f]Helen[/name_f] of [name_m]Troy[/name_m]).
Other names I like are [name_f]Luci[/name_f], Clairi, [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (Sylvi looks a bit funny), [name_f]Jaci[/name_f], or [name_f]Lindsi[/name_f].
[name_f]Heidi[/name_f] is my favorite
[name_m]Denali[/name_m]
[name_f]Addie[/name_f]
[name_f]Annie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lizzie[/name_f]
[name_f]Lottie[/name_f]
[name_f]Maggie[/name_f]
[name_f]Mamie[/name_f]
[name_f]Margie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marie[/name_f]
[name_f]Marjorie[/name_f]
Please don’t mangle the spelling just to fit your “ending in i” criteria. Use a spelling that people will at least be familiar with.
