[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! We are having the hardest time choosing a name for our soon to be 2nd daughter. Our first daughter is named [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. We love this name. Simple, unusual, and it sound well in spanish and english. We pronounce is Lie-ra. With a rolled R when we say it in spanish.
My DH and I are both bilingual but our mothers do not speak english. We are looking for a name that isn’t very popular but also sounds good in spanish and english. It doesn’t have to be a spanish name. [name_m]Just[/name_m] something that my mother won’t butcher. Some names we like are
I would go with [name_f]Noemi[/name_f]. As you can see from my signature, I love it. I also am looking for a name that works in Spanish and English and I think NoemĂ does that perfectly.
[name_f]Noemi[/name_f] [name_f]Salome[/name_f] is gorgeous!
The first name that came to mind was [name_f]Elena[/name_f]. It has a rich history, is Spanish, Italian, Romanian, and has been gaining popularity in the United States. It’s a beautiful name. One of my favorites.
Along those lines, [name_f]Eliana[/name_f] works too. Other options:
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Iliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f]
[name_f]Katalin[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucila[/name_f] (nickname [name_f]Luci[/name_f] is so cute)
[name_f]Marina[/name_f]
[name_f]Rita[/name_f]
Thanks! Husband and I both love [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] but our family seems pretty ambivalent towards it. You’re right that [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] [name_f]Salome[/name_f] does sound great together!
Oh, I love [name_f]Eliana[/name_f]. Thank you! [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] was my grandmother’s name. I love [name_f]Celia[/name_f] (other grandmother’s name) however, husband is set against it. Reminds him too much of the late Cuban singer [name_f]Celia[/name_f] [name_u]Cruz[/name_u].
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] is gorgeous. My first thought was [name_f]Lourdes[/name_f], but it’s a bit matchy. [name_f]Isolda[/name_f], [name_f]Paloma[/name_f], [name_f]Catalina[/name_f], Diadama, [name_f]Esmerelda[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Gabriela[/name_f], [name_f]Isla[/name_f], [name_f]Jacinta[/name_f], [name_f]Maya[/name_f], [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f], [name_f]Raphaela[/name_f], [name_f]Sabine[/name_f], [name_f]Vita[/name_f], [name_f]Xia[/name_f].
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. [name_f]Noemi[/name_f] is still first place but it’s not full on love the way it was with [name_f]Lyra[/name_f]. I like a lot of the names suggested but husband does not. Wish i could kick him out of the naming process!
I like [name_f]Nina[/name_f] but it’s a nickname for godmother in spanish. So that’s out. My husband did suggest it to honor his nina but I said no. ha!
