Hello! Recently found out that we’re expecting our second child in early summer. We had a challenging time agreeing on ODD’s name, so starting early with this one
A name with a strong meaning is really important to me. ODD is [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], which means “defender of mankind.” We are pretty settled on [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] for a boy (“victory of the people”). For a girl, however, we are stumped! Any ideas of girls’ names that are more on the classic/ sophisticated side with great meanings? Names we like but aren’t sold on the meanings are [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], [name_f]Catherine[/name_f], [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f].
[name_f]TIA[/name_f] for any ideas!
[name_u]Fallon[/name_u] - Leader
[name_u]Dallas[/name_u] - Wise
[name_f]Bernadette[/name_f] - Brave as a bear
[name_f]Eulalia[/name_f] - Sweetly spoken
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] these help
Thank you!! I like [name_u]Fallon[/name_u] a lot, but my husband nixed it :-/
[name_f]Valencia[/name_f] (power)
[name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] (queen)
[name_u]Hero[/name_u]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] (favour or grace)
[name_u]Madison[/name_u] (gift of god)
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] (victory or triumphant)
[name_f]Norah[/name_f] (light)
[name_f]Tabitha[/name_f] (gazelle, beauty, grace)
[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (work of the lord)
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (noble strength)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (foreign prosperity)
[name_f]Evangeline[/name_f] (like an angel)
[name_f]Leona[/name_f] (brave as a lioness)
[name_f]Samantha[/name_f] (she who listens)
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Victoria[/name_f]

[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_f]Nicolette[/name_f]
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] and [name_u]Nicola[/name_u]
[name_f]Andromeda[/name_f] means “ruler or adviser of men”. She was also a Greek goddess I believe, and the name of our closest galaxy
I think that works well with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], especially as they are both strong Greek names with similar meanings and alliteration. It is quite a bold and dramatic name however, so if you are wanting something more tame maybe names like:
[name_f]Briana[/name_f] - “strong, virtuous, honourable”
[name_f]Bridget[/name_f]/[name_f]Brighid[/name_f] - “strong, exalted one”. Also the Celtic goddess of wisdom
[name_u]Emlyn[/name_u] “noble warrior” (I know on this site it says it means “rival”). I also think this one might be nice if you are after something slightly different but with modern attractive elements such as [name_f]Em[/name_f] and [name_u]Lyn[/name_u].
[name_f]Willow[/name_f] - This is one of my favourites as willow trees evoke thoughts of grace as well as strength
[name_u]Raven[/name_u] - obviously the name of a bird, but one that was venerated for it’s wisdom and strength in Norse mythology
[name_f]Adele[/name_f] - “noble”
I second [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f] too
[name_f]Octavia[/name_f] - while it doesn’t necessarily mean “strong” (it means eighth haha), to me it just sounds so strong, like the name of a warrior maiden. I think it would also go well with [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
Please let us know what you decide!

Husband likes [name_f]Selena[/name_f] and [name_f]Samantha[/name_f], and I’m loving [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f]! So many great names to consider! Thank you!
