I never used to like [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Amy[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Opal[/name_f], [name_f]Maude[/name_f], or [name_f]Lorena[/name_f], but now I love all of them. (I’m nowhere near having kids, but I would seriously consider these for real children now)
I have plenty of names that went from neutral to love, but the names above I actively disliked at one point and now love.
For me it was the name [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and the name [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], can’t use [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] unfortunately but I fell in love with that name given how I fall in love with all space names if I’m honest others have to be [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] and [name_f]Carina[/name_f], so basically my top five girl list! I think I consider the “never thought” list just names I don’t fall in love with right away and know “it’s one I like” like I do with a lot of names in my list (it took me awhile to love [name_f]Ramona[/name_f] but I love [name_f]Amalia[/name_f] right away!)
I went to school with a [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and I remember feeling bad for him because he had such an old man name. Now I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and would consider naming a child [name_m]Henry[/name_m] if it went better with our last name.
Other names I used to think were too “old”:
-[name_f]Cora[/name_f]
-[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
-[name_m]Charles[/name_m]
-[name_f]Alice[/name_f]
-[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]
-[name_u]Everett[/name_u]
-[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]
-[name_u]Jasper[/name_u]
I now feel like the best place for me to get name inspiration would probably be a home for Senior Citizens haha. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband says he has to keep me in check from going too granny or grandpa with our kid’s names.
I used to think [name_f]Clover[/name_f] was a better name for a than a human, and I couldn’t “see” day names like [name_f]Sunday[/name_f] or [name_f]Tuesday[/name_f] as people names. They’re all now on my list!
Nameberry has definitely made my naming style bolder/more open-minded. I find I can see the appeal of almost any name now, which doesn’t make narrowing down a shortlist any easier!
Yes, I’ve done a total 180 on [name_f]Gwendolen[/name_f]/Gwen too! I used to find the “Gw” sound really unattractive, but I love the spunkiness of [name_f]Gwen[/name_f] now. I’m still not wild about the -lyn spelling but it’s definitely growing on me.
Agnes is another. I used to find it too clunky and harsh-sounding, now I love the hard sounds, I think they give it real character and backbone!
When I saw the birth announcement of @katinka’s little girl I was honestly disappointed “How can she choose such an unattractive name?!” Now, I LOVE [name_f]Helena[/name_f]. She’s perfect.
