Girl or Boy?

We are considering these names and I have had a lot of people tell me that they’d only use the name on one gender (which is different from the gender I intend to use it on!). So!, if you read each of these names would you expect a girl or boy?
[name]Briar[/name]
[name]Rye[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Sidney[/name]
[name]Rory[/name]
[name]Hollis[/name]

Thanks!

[name]Briar[/name]- girl
[name]Rye[/name]- boy
[name]Willow[/name]- all girl to me, never heard of it on a boy before
[name]Sidney[/name]- this sp is boy, but I prefer [name]Sydney[/name] for a girl. but as a whole, I prefer it only on a girl
[name]Hollis[/name]- never heard it on a boy before. common nn [name]Holly[/name] screams all girl to me

[name]Briar[/name] - girl
[name]Rye[/name] - boy
[name]Willow[/name] - girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - this spelling, boy
[name]Rory[/name] - about equal, but I prefer it for a girl
[name]Hollis[/name] - boy

[name]Briar[/name] - girl
[name]Rye[/name] - boy
[name]Willow[/name] - girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - boy
[name]Rory[/name] - I’m split on this one
[name]Hollis[/name] - girl, only because the only [name]Hollis[/name] I know is a girl

The gender I expect the name to be used on is sometimes different from what I prefer. [name]Sidney[/name], for example, I only like on a boy, but I would be very surprised to meet a baby boy named [name]Sidney[/name], only because it’s much more popular for girls.
[name]Briar[/name]- Girl
[name]Rye[/name]- I’ve only ever heard this name describing bread, but I guess it could be short for [name]Ryan[/name], [name]Rylan[/name], etc. I can’t see it on a girl.
[name]Willow[/name]- Girl
[name]Sidney[/name]- as I said, I’d only expect it to be a girl, but I much prefer it on a boy.
[name]Rory[/name]- As a full name, boy; as a nickname, girl.
[name]Hollis[/name]- boy

I think [name]Daisy[/name] is right. What I expect is different then what I prefer.

[name]Briar[/name]- Girl([name]Even[/name] though I [name]LOVE[/name] it for boy and would be pleasantly surprised if I met one)
[name]Rye[/name]- Boy
[name]Willow[/name]- Girl
[name]Sidney[/name]- [name]Gil[/name](Sisters name so bias)
[name]Rory[/name]- Girl
[name]Hollis[/name]- Girl

[name]Briar[/name]- girl
[name]Rye[/name]- boy or girl i like it for both
[name]Willow[/name]- girl
[name]Rory[/name] - girl
[name]Hollis[/name] - boy (ik a girl who just had a boy named [name]Hollis[/name] and it fits him well (:

[name]Briar[/name] - Girl
[name]Rye[/name] - Boy
[name]Willow[/name] - Girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - Boy (because of the spelling, [name]Sydney[/name] is a Girl to me)
[name]Rory[/name] - Girl or Boy evenly!!
[name]Hollis[/name] - Girl or Boy evenly!!!

[name]Briar[/name]: boy
[name]Rye[/name]: boy
[name]Willow[/name]: girl
[name]Sidney[/name]: boy
[name]Rory[/name]: boy
[name]Hollis[/name]: boy

[name]Briar[/name] – Very much a girl name to me. Cute too!
[name]Rye[/name] – Very boy.
[name]Willow[/name] – Girl all the way.
[name]Sidney[/name] – With the i spelling, I would be sure if I was going to meet a boy or a girl, but personally I think the name has become all girl now.
[name]Rory[/name] – I’ve known Rorys of both genders, so I wouldn’t guess if I saw the name on my class roster. I prefer it for a girl myself, but it’s one name I feel is definitely unisex.
[name]Hollis[/name] – I’ve only known one, and it was a male, so to me it’s a very masculine name. I see how it could work on a girl, but it seems a bit harsh to me.

Thanks![/quote]

[name]Briar[/name]- girl
[name]Rye[/name]- boy (and I [name]LOVE[/name] it!)
[name]Willow[/name]- girl
[name]Sidney[/name]- boy because of the spelling
[name]Rory[/name]- either
[name]Hollis[/name]- girl

Great thread!

[name]Briar[/name] - Boy
[name]Rye[/name] - Boy
[name]Willow[/name] - Girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - Girl
[name]Rory[/name] - Girl, but I can see it on either
[name]Hollis[/name] - Um…I can see it on either

[name]Briar[/name] - girl
[name]Rye[/name] - boy
[name]Willow[/name] - girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - boy
[name]Rory[/name] - boy
[name]Hollis[/name] - boy

[name]Briar[/name]- either
[name]Rye[/name]- boy
[name]Willow[/name]- girl
[name]Sidney[/name]- boy
[name]Rory[/name]- boy
[name]Hollis[/name]- boy

[name]Briar[/name] - boy
[name]Rye[/name] - boy
[name]Willow[/name] - girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - boy
[name]Rory[/name] - girl
[name]Hollis[/name] - girl

[name]Briar[/name] – girl. Breyer could be a boy.
[name]Rye[/name] – boy, girl not impossible or anything.
[name]Willow[/name] – girl. Boy is a 1980s movie character!
[name]Sidney[/name] – boy, this spelling, but this is pretty girly.
[name]Rory[/name] – either.
[name]Hollis[/name] – boy. Might be “fresh” or interesting on a girl…

Good luck!

[name]Briar[/name] - girl
[name]Rye[/name] - boy
[name]Willow[/name] - girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - boy ([name]Sydney[/name] is girl)
[name]Rory[/name] - boy
[name]Hollis[/name] - boy

[name]Briar[/name] - Girl name. [name]Briar[/name] [name]Rose[/name] comes to mind.
[name]Rye[/name] - Boy but personally I wouldn’t use the name of an alcoholic drink for any child. You would just be asking for trouble.
[name]Willow[/name] - Girl
[name]Sidney[/name] - This is the boy’s spelling and the girls is [name]Sydney[/name].
[name]Rory[/name] - Either gender ([name]Robert[/name] F. [name]Kennedy[/name]'s daughter [name]Rory[/name] and Microsoft billionaire [name]Bill[/name] Gates has a boy named [name]Rory[/name]).
[name]Hollis[/name] - [name]Both[/name] genders but with the nn [name]Holly[/name] I think it may be better suited for a girl. It would be a bold choice for a boy but I think it would be kind of cool.
