Girl Space Names

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] everyone,
Looking for advice please.
We’re now 21 weeks with our baby girl and still no closer to agreeing on a name!

[name_f]My[/name_f] partner really wants a “space themed” name, but any I suggest he doesn’t think is perfect.

So far we have considered:
[name_f]Luna[/name_f] - too common
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - too common
[name_u]Nova[/name_u] - he doesn’t like how I pronounce it, I have a Northern UK accent so pronounce my O’s differently to him, we live in the south of [name_u]England[/name_u].
[name_f]Aletheia[/name_f] - he isn’t sure about
[name_f]Callisto[/name_f] - my favourite but reminds him of the [name_u]Calypso[/name_u] ice lollies!

Sooo many others that I can’t even list.

His current favourite is Cassini … everywhere I’ve looked online says it’s a male name so my questions are:

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think Cassini can work for a girl?
What nickname could she have? I’m really not sure about [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] but unsure of anything else that makes sense.
I can’t help but feel like it reminds me of casserole or an Italian dish :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

Please help - any suggestions? Any thoughts that could help me like the name Cassini more? It’s the first name he’s actually liked.

Cassini is super cute but now that you mentioned it sounds like a casserole dish I cannot get that out of my head, lol.

Some suggestions:

[name_f]Rhea[/name_f]

I like Cassini nn [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]. I also like the suggestion of [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]

Would [name_f]Calista[/name_f] fit the bill?

Others that come to mind for me are [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], and [name_f]Stella[/name_f].

I don’t know the Cassini/space connection (to me Cassini is just a surname). Maybe [name_f]Sisi[/name_f], [name_f]Sini[/name_f], or [name_f]Nina[/name_f] could be viable nicknames for it?

What about…

Estella
Estrella
Evaluna
Adeluna
Selena
Lyra
Phoebe
Elara
Callista
Sol
Soleia
Solana
Solara
Lunette
Lunaria

Perhaps some names of female Astro/Cosmonauts!
[name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Mae[/name_f]
[name_f]Sally[/name_f]
[name_f]Catherine[/name_f] or [name_f]Kathryn[/name_f]
[name_f]Yelena[/name_f] or [name_f]Helen[/name_f] or [name_f]Ellen[/name_f]
[name_f]Claudine[/name_f]
[name_f]Zena[/name_f]
[name_f]Susan[/name_f]
[name_f]Serena[/name_f]
[name_f]Judith[/name_f]
[name_u]Anne[/name_u]
[name_f]Svetlana[/name_f]
[name_f]Valentina[/name_f]
[name_f]Roberta[/name_f]
[name_f]Nora[/name_f]

[name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] could be so excennelt for you guys, too. Almost Cassini, but a little bit sweeter as a girl’s first name! :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I love the suggestions of [name_u]Vega[/name_u], [name_f]Danica[/name_f], & [name_f]Cosima[/name_f]! Other options could be:

[name_u]Artemis[/name_u]
[name_f]Carina[/name_f]
[name_f]Neoma[/name_f]
[name_f]Roxanna[/name_f]

I’ve never seen Cassini as a name before but I actually really like it! I would have assumed it’s a girl’s name due to the nickname [name_f]Cassie[/name_f]. It doesn’t remind me of casserole any more than any other [name_u]Cass[/name_u]- name, but there’s also [name_f]Cassiopeia[/name_f] if you like that better.

You have some wonderful suggestions from the previous posters, but [name_f]Astraea[/name_f] and [name_f]Galilea[/name_f] are my favorite space names!

Thank you for your suggestions everyone!
I’ve added loads to our list but he’s still set on Cassini. I’m trying to love it but I’m not keen on [name_f]Cassie[/name_f] as a nickname (not sure why!) I’m trying to think of other nicknames she could have but finding it a struggle.
We have 3 other children -
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] (Teddy)
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] (Toby)
[name_f]Marnie[/name_f]

And we settled on their names pretty quickly but finding number 4 a lot harder!

What about [name_u]Halley[/name_u]? It fits a bit better with [name_f]Marnie[/name_f] than Cassini but it shares the -a- sound and the -i/y- ending. Maybe your husband will like it.
I also love Perseverance (like the [name_u]Mars[/name_u] robot) but I’m not sure how wearable it is for an actual child

I don’t care for Cassini on anybody, sorry.

I think of casinos and casseroles. It also sounds like a board game.

If he really wants a space name, he should look further. Also, do you really want a space name?

Agreed!

I also think Phoebe would be cute with your other children (and can I just say I love their names!)

Good luck with your decision!

i know cassini as a last name, so i can’t really see it on girls or boys, or as a first name at all  for nicknames maybe nia or cece ?

you’ve had many suggestions already but a name i found similar and space related is cassiope, maybe you might like it ?

i’m also curious about your non-space related favorites, and if there is an overlap there that your partner would compromise on

Thank you everyone, really appreciate the feedback!

We considered [name_u]Halley[/name_u] but OH has a son (different mums) who is called [name_u]Harley[/name_u] and it’s too close :see_no_evil:

We’ve considered [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] which I really like but OH doesn’t. He “likes” some and says he’s trying but nothing feels perfect.

In terms of non space related my top names are:
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f] / [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]

He doesn’t really like any, he says [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is quite nice but still not perfect … he’s really set on a space themed name and I think it’s a cool idea but really hard as we didn’t start that theme with the other kids so finding a “normal / classic” name to fit theirs while also being related to space is SO difficult.

I’ve also suggested:
[name_f]Pandora[/name_f] - no
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f] - no
[name_f]Lilith[/name_f] - no
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] / [name_f]Astraea[/name_f] - no
[name_f]Rhea[/name_f] - no
[name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f] - no
[name_f]Elara[/name_f] - it’s okay but he’s not set
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] - no

Basically any name I can think of is a no (I’ve literally searched google for moon names, asteroids, dwarf planets, planets, stars !!) and he just goes back to Cassini.

[name_f]My[/name_f] top favourite is [name_f]Callisto[/name_f] (Callie) and I feel like they’re quite similar favourites but also quite different so there isn’t really a compromise. I’ve found [name_u]Kalani[/name_u], Kallini etc which seems a mix of both names but not space relevant :joy:

I feel she is going to be nameless!

Luna - meh
Aurora - I always worry about kids with speech impediments trying to say this
Nova - I don’t understand the current love of this one
Aletheia - This is my niece’s name and I adore it! Several options for nicknames if you want to shorten it (although my niece, age 5, is often called Wayfa due to her brother’s young mispronunciation – she is aging out of that though!)
Callisto - I’ve been digging Calypso lately, so this one is very cool tome.

Cassini isn’t ugly at all, but it isn’t my style. If I had a student walk in with this name, I wouldn’t blink an eye, and think it was a bit cool. Cass or Cassie does work as a nickname, but if you don’t like them, then stay with the full name!

The space thing named after Cassini burned up if that helps your argument. Also, it reminds me of Cassini Soo much, and it autocorrected to that on my phone.
