[name_f]May[/name_f] we ask for advice on a name and/or middle name that relates to, or somewhat honour the unique background our baby daughter will have being borned by a wonderful surrogate and with two gay fathers as her parents.
Our baby girl will be half [name_f]Asian[/name_f] (Thai) and half caucasian/European.
We have thought of names like [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] or [name_f]Iris[/name_f] (goddess of rainbow) to honour that she will be a child in a lgbt family but none of those click with us.
What about [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f]? [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] means peace. Or [name_f]Cosima[/name_f] [name_f]Iris[/name_f], which means of the cosmos(stars/heavens)/cosmopolitan (worldly). [name_f]Coco[/name_f] or Cosy are great nns, too! I really like [name_f]Iris[/name_f] & its meaning for the middle name…it maybe seems too overt in the first name slot. [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] (Loosha) would be nice, too, because it means light, so with a rainbow middle name that would be pretty - your shining rainbow light!
I love [name_f]Iris[/name_f]! Other names that mean rainbow: Iridiana, Iridessa, [name_f]Itzel[/name_f]. Some names of LGBT activists you may want to consider: [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (Rivera), [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] (Winterbourne), [name_f]Alice[/name_f] ([name_u]Walker[/name_u]), [name_f]Lili[/name_f] ([name_f]Elbe[/name_f]), ([name_f]Frida[/name_f]) [name_f]Kahlo[/name_f] (holy crap how cute is [name_f]Kahlo[/name_f]?) Good luck!
Thai names:
Jantra – from chanthara “moon.”
Jintana – from chintana “to imagine.” Chintana kan means “imagination” and “fantasy” in Thai.
Kanda – “beloved” and “sweetheart.”
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] is such a pretty name!! If you want to go with the rainbow theme, you could go with a color name like [name_u]Indigo[/name_u], [name_u]Gray[/name_u], or [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f]. I also like the above suggestions of [name_f]Paloma[/name_f] and [name_f]Lucia[/name_f]! Maybe you’d also like [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]
I personally love [name_f]Iris[/name_f] but if it’s not the name I would keep looking. If you’re looking for something with meaning I would suggest…
Adanna- fathers daughter
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]- my father is joy
Ikenna- fathers power
Adaeze- kings daughter
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]- loved
Kealoha- the loved one
[name_f]Ahava[/name_f]- love
[name_f]Carys[/name_f]- love
[name_f]Cinta[/name_f]- love
[name_f]Kerensa[/name_f]- love
[name_f]Nayeli[/name_f]- I love you
I think [name_f]Iris[/name_f] is a lovely name! I’m not fond of [name_f]Rainbow[/name_f] as a first but think it would be an adorable and meaningful middle.
My suggestions:
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f]- symbolizing purity, grace and spiritual growth
[name_f]Mira[/name_f]- admirable; or peace, world; or female ruler; or ocean
[name_f]Malu[/name_f]- [name_u]Peace[/name_u]
[name_f]Shanti[/name_f]- [name_u]Peace[/name_u]
[name_f]Viva[/name_f]- alive, living, life
[name_f]Lux[/name_f]- [name_m]Light[/name_m]
[name_f]Serafina[/name_f]- ardent, fiery
[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]- [name_u]Bright[/name_u]
[name_f]Clio[/name_f]- [name_f]Glory[/name_f]
[name_f]Faith[/name_f]
[name_f]Honor[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]- She who brings happiness
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]- Shining one
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]- My father is joyful
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u]- [name_u]Free[/name_u]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]- Priceless one
Thanks for all great suggestions!
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Kamala[/name_f], love [name_f]Mira[/name_f] and many of the other names too. Keep em coming!
[name_f]Iris[/name_f] is beautiful but it is also that in Thai language it is a bit difficult to pronounce and can be mixed up (with something less beautiful).
Vaiva - means rainbow in Lithuanian
Fiera - means proud in Esperanto
[name_f]Abra[/name_f] - means “Father of multitudes” in Hebrew. Feminine of [name_m]Abraham[/name_m].
I like the idea of naming her after an activist or prominent community member as well. Good luck!
[name_f]Mira[/name_f] is pretty and suitably international. You might like this list: Exotic Lite. (There’s also an old blog post here describing the “Exotic Lite” style in more detail.)
It might not be as attractive as [name_f]Iris[/name_f], but the Welsh Enfys (en-vis) also means “rainbow.”
