Here is the deal. My Husband is a HUGE Kansas University Alumni and [name_f]Fan[/name_f]. When naming our first son I came across [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] and the different spelling. After spelling [name_m]MarKUs[/name_m] my husband fell in love. Now we are having a second child and have a boys name picked [name_m]KUrtis[/name_m].
See the trend here? Yes it is silly but we are not making up names and it makes my husband happy.
Now I have searched every possible sight to find a girls name with KU in it with no luck. I am hoping you wonderful Moms can help.
Hmmm, that’s a hard one. I did a “Super Search” on Nameberry, and it only yielded 11 names, most of which are pretty rare, and don’t really fit with your son’s name. (I mean, I like curry, but [name_f]Kurri[/name_f] and [name_f]Kurry[/name_f] aren’t that usable in my opinion…) One that came up was [name_f]Kursten[/name_f], if you’re okay with the odd spelling.
The only names I could think of are Japanese:
Kumiko (I worked with a Kumiko once)
[name_f]Sakura[/name_f] (“cherry blossom”)
Kiku (“chrysanthemum”)
Miku
Maybe you could switch it up for a girl and make her initials KU instead? I honestly can’t think of a single girls name with ku in it, aside from really butchering something like [name_f]Karina[/name_f] to Kurina, [name_f]Kerensa[/name_f] to Kurensa…
[name_f]Anouk[/name_f] has ku backwards. you could spell [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] cre8tifly: Kuinn. that’s about all i got! good luck!!
I can’t come up with anything different than what is listed above.
You could try flipping it to UK for [name_f]Suki[/name_f].
Or why not name a girl [name_m]Kurtis[/name_m]??
I’m a big jayhawk too! I’m not quite a big enough fan that I would use KU in a kids name but the [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Laurence[/name_u] combo in my sig is partially influenced by [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]. My best friend is planning to go to the university.
Since KU is hard to find in girl names, maybe use something inspired by the university?
[name_f]Alana[/name_f]- feminine form of [name_m]Allen[/name_m] for [name_m]Allen[/name_m] field house
[name_f]Jade[/name_f]/[name_f]Jayde[/name_f]- anything with [name_u]Jay[/name_u] in it could honor the jayhawks
[name_f]Crimson[/name_f]/[name_u]Blue[/name_u]- their colors are crimson and blue
[name_f]Azure[/name_f]/[name_f]Sapphire[/name_f]/[name_u]Sky[/name_u]- all shades of blue
[name_u]Clare[/name_u]- this one is a bit more subtle but Phog [name_m]Allen[/name_m]'s real name was [name_m]Forrest[/name_m] [name_u]Clare[/name_u]
Kansas- I know a girl whose name is just Kansas and it works for her.
I know that almost no KU fan would want UK in their kids name because that is Kentucky NOT Kansas. [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you find something!
The other day I saw a location on Instagram tagged “Kuna Caves”. I’ve looked it up and couldn’t find any information for Kuna as a name but I think it would make a very pretty name. It rhymes with [name_f]Luna[/name_f] which is a real name so it wouldn’t be that far of a stretch.
