Giuliana or Juliana

I like [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] better because I know a few Julies and want something different but I worry [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] would be mispronounced or confused. Which spelling do you prefer?

Unless you have Italian ancestry or some other cool connection to [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f], I’d suggest [name_f]Juliana[/name_f]. You don’t have to call her [name_u]Julie[/name_u]. I actually think of it more as a name for 40ish year old women, so I don’t see other people calling a little girl [name_u]Julie[/name_u]. Plus, the majority of the time, her name will be said, not spelled, so an alternate spelling won’t really make much of a difference in uniqueness. It’ll just be kind of confusing.
It’s a gorgeous name either way though!

I agree with @liberty.mairead that [name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] is really only usable with italian heritage, but I do love it anyway :smiling_face_with_three_hearts: [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] is pretty as well !!

[name_f]Giuliana[/name_f] like [name_f]Giulietta[/name_f] is my favourite it feels softer, more elegant and pretty.

I prefer [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] simply because I like the look of it better than [name_f]Guiliana[/name_f] both are lovely, though!

Seconding this.

I prefer the look of Juliana but if you do have Italian heritage, then go for the one you like most

I know a Hispanic Giuliana, so imo you don’t necessarily have to be Italian to use it. Ultimately, I’d say go for it if you like it.

This is one of those names that I honestly love both spellings! I do not think you need to be Italian to use the G spelling. There are plenty of people with names from cultures/ethnicities/nationalities other than their own and this is not one of those situations where a group of people were oppressed or marginalized (Although that argument falls in murky waters for me because I mean most cultures suffered oppression sometime in history and many current names come from those…I could go on a rant about this but that’s not the point of my post), as far as I know, which means I think it should be fine to use if this is your preferred spelling.

To clarify, I don’t at all subscribe to the whole “How dare you use that name! It’s not from your culture!” view. I’m just saying [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] would be the less confusing spelling in the English-speaking world, but if you have Italian heritage, [name_f]Guiliana[/name_f] might be meaningful to you, and that would make you willing to deal with little spelling issues.
