Give Me Your Unpopular Baby Name Opinions (Boys Edition))

WARNING - There will be some harsh opinions on this page.
Give Me Your Unpopular Baby Name Opinions… and I’ll see if I agree with you!!! Here are some of mine: (you don’t have to follow format)

1. A popular name I don’t like [name_u]Arlo[/name_u]
2. A name everyone hates but I like [name_u]Niall[/name_u]
3. A name that has gotten popular that I did not want to become popular [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]
4. A name family I don’t like [name_m]Ken[/name_m],
5. A trend I can’t get on board with -iel endings… Cashiel, [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m], [name_m]Ezekiel[/name_m], etc
6. A trend I didn’t like at its peak but do now The name [name_m]Bear[/name_m]
7. A first letter I don’t much care for Z
8. A name I like but think is overhyped [name_u]Milo[/name_u], [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]
9. A name everyone else thinks is dated but I think is still fresh/ready for a revival [name_m]Niklaus[/name_m]
10. A name that doesn’t get enough love [name_m]Calix[/name_m]

Response to your opinions:

  1. Not huge on it either, or a lot of similar names.
  2. I like [name_u]Niall[/name_u]! I didn’t know people hated it.
  3. I didn’t know [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] was popular; I’m fond of the name because it has personal meaning to me but only as a middle.
  4. I like [name_m]Ken[/name_m]- names mostly [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u], but this is fair. [name_u]Kennedy[/name_u] is also a family name for me and my beloved godfather is [name_m]Kenneth[/name_m] “[name_m]Ken[/name_m],” though, so I’m very biased here. Not sure I’d love otherwise.
  5. I don’t mind -iel names but tend to prefer -ien or -ian names.
  6. I don’t mind [name_m]Bear[/name_m], my only issue is it feels a bit nicknamey or “cutesy” to me personally. Also I’ve known multiple dogs named [name_m]Bear[/name_m].
  7. Already shared this on the girls post but I’m hot and cold about Z. For boys I love [name_u]Zion[/name_u], [name_u]Zephyr[/name_u], [name_m]Zander[/name_m], [name_m]Zeb[/name_m] and dislike [name_u]Zeke[/name_u] and [name_m]Zac[/name_m]- names but otherwise I’m fairly indifferent.
  8. I prefer [name_u]Miles[/name_u] to [name_u]Milo[/name_u], and used to love [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] but now am pretty indifferent to it. I think I’m over it because of the popularity— I still love some popular names but this love wasn’t strong enough I guess. Actually, I’m not crazy about most O- names…
  9. I’m on board for [name_m]Niklaus[/name_m], can [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] and [name_u]Nikola[/name_u] (for boys) be included? I love love love the name [name_u]Niko[/name_u]/Nico but only as a nickname.
  10. I like [name_m]Calix[/name_m]!

Also @Liv_Clare to clarify are you also asking for our unpopular opinions? I’ve got loads lol

  2. I like [name_u]Niall[/name_u] but not [name_u]Neil[/name_u], a name everyone hates that I like is
  3. I don’t like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], so I also didn’t want it to become popular because it grates on me and I didn’t want to have to hear it all the time
  4. Ken is ok, I prefer Kennie, A family name I don’t like is [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
  5. I like some iel - biblical iel because I love the sound and meaning - [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_m]Asriel[/name_m] but I agree I don’t like [name_m]Dashiell[/name_m] or Cashiel. A popular trend I don’t like is place name names
  6. I’m not a massive fan of bear but it’s ok. A trend I didn’t like at its peak but do now  I’m not sure I can think of one
  7. I agree for boys not a big fan of Z names. A letter I don’t care much for on boys Y
  8. Not a fan of [name_u]Milo[/name_u] or [name_u]Oliver[/name_u]. A name I like but think is overhyped: [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
  9. Love [name_m]Niklaus[/name_m]/Nicholas. A name others think is dated but I think is fresh [name_u]Howard[/name_u]/Howie
  10. I don’t like [name_m]Calix[/name_m]. A name that I think doesn’t get enough hype: [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_m]Inigo[/name_m]

I am!!! Please give me some!

Hahaha ok you asked for it! I’ll respond to the same prompts you did.

1. A popular name I don’t like [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]! I’m so sorry everyone, I just don’t get it at all. I don’t like most “[name_f]Bella[/name_f]” names on girls either though so it’s not specific to this name haha
2. A name everyone hates but I like I truly don’t mind most of the -ayden names that seem to drive a lot of name nerds crazy. Also I love [name_u]Jamie[/name_u] and [name_u]Indigo[/name_u] on a boy (I don’t like either on a girl).
3. A name that has gotten popular that I did not want to become popular [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] (I love it, but it’s waaaay too popular now!)
4. A name family I don’t like The “[name_u]August[/name_u]” names ([name_u]August[/name_u], [name_u]Augustine[/name_u], [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], etc). I don’t care for a single one of them (I’m sorry!) and they’re wildly popular on here.
5. A trend I can’t get on board with Giving well-established nicknames (eg [name_m]Johnny[/name_m], [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], [name_m]Mike[/name_m], [name_m]Tom[/name_m]) as standalone names.
6. A trend I didn’t like at its peak but do now Unisex names like [name_u]Morgan[/name_u], [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_u]Avery[/name_u], and [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] that were very popular in the 90s. I prefer most of these on boys but with every example I’ve given, have met boys and girls who wore the name well.
7. A first letter I don’t much care for O, though I do love a couple of O names I largely really don’t care for them as a whole.
8. A name I like but think is overhyped [name_u]Miles[/name_u]. Nothing against it, though.
9. A name everyone else thinks is dated but I think is still fresh/ready for a revival [name_u]Scott[/name_u] and [name_m]Brian[/name_m]— I don’t see either being used much and I don’t see them as especially dated myself.
10. A name that doesn’t get enough love [name_m]Malcolm[/name_m], [name_m]Duncan[/name_m], [name_m]Seamus[/name_m] (I may be biased because this is my middle name)

5. A trend I can’t get on board with [name_u]James[/name_u] in the middle for a girl; names ending in -lynn; and I’m still not quite there on [name_u]September[/name_u]/October/November/December as names (slowly getting there though!)

6. A trend I didn’t like at its peak but do now Middle name [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? I don’t know, this is a tricky one!

7. A first letter I don’t much care for I don’t really like any Q names apart from [name_u]Quinn[/name_u]; also there are lots of K names that aren’t really my style, even though I named my child one that is!

8. A name I like but think is overhyped [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]

9. A name everyone else thinks is dated but I think is still fresh/ready for a revival [name_f]Marianne[/name_f], [name_f]Maxine[/name_f], [name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] (b) and [name_m]Roger[/name_m]

Okay, following your format:

A popular name I don’t like: I can’t stand [name_u]Oliver[/name_u] for some reason, it sounds so snivelly to me, no offence to anyone who likes it.
A name everyone hates but I like: [name_m]Lucifer[/name_m]. Literally. (Wouldn’t use it, but I love it to bits)
A name that has gotten popular that I did not want to become popular: [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] :sob: The graph shows one of the steepest rises I’ve ever seen on NB. So sad. And I’ve been loving this for years.
A name family I don’t like: Nobody’s surprised but [name_u]Jayden[/name_u], [name_m]Kaden[/name_m], [name_m]Braden[/name_m] etc
A trend I can’t get on board with: Violent, aggressive or hyper-masculine boys names like [name_m]Gunner[/name_m], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u], Raider etc. I think this perpetuates toxic masculinity! There are much better, healthier ways to be “badass”.
A trend I didn’t like at its peak but I do now: I didn’t like [name_u]Cove[/name_u] when it was coming up the charts like crazy in 2019, but now I’ve completely fallen for it in a post/mid-Covid world. Go figure!
A first letter I don’t much care for: B names don’t do it for me. I really don’t love them much for any gender.
A name I like but I think is overhyped: [name_u]August[/name_u] is really nice and on my list, but is super hyped up on here!
A name everyone else thinks is dated but I think is still fresh/ready for a revival: Not dated per se, but I think [name_m]Casper[/name_m] is ready for a revival. It’s time for it to shed its ghostly shackles! I don’t even associate this with the friendly ghost and I’m a 90s baby. It’s such a great name.
A name that doesn’t get enough love: Kairos. Kairos. Kairos. I think I’m the only person on this website who likes Kairos lmfao.
