What do you think of the name [name]Gladys[/name]? Its…okay. I guess I can’t imagine meeting a little [name]Gladys[/name], it sounds very Great-Aunt name to me, but the more I am thinking about it the more I think I could come around.

Does it fit with big sister [name]Florence[/name]? Sort of. I think [name]Florence[/name] has a bit more versatility than [name]Gladys[/name] though.

Does [name]Gladys[/name] Churchyard sound ok? Yes, that sounds okay.

What nickname would you use? Probably [name]Gee[/name] or [name]Gigi[/name]. Maybe [name]Addy[/name]/[name]Addie[/name] if you wanted something a bit more common?

Any middle name ideas?

[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Moira[/name]
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Rowena[/name]
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Rose[/name] (might be to many ‘s’ sounds though…)
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Olivia[/name]
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Gladys[/name] [name]Amelia[/name]

I’m not a fan of [name]Gladys[/name]. It seems very old fashioned to me, not in a good way. Not ready for revival. As for fitting with [name]Florence[/name], I can’t see it. As the previous poster said [name]Florence[/name] has more versatility, and a little spunk that [name]Gladys[/name] definitely doesn’t share. Besides, [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Gladys[/name] have the same ending sound which I don’t care for in sibsets.

[name]Gladys[/name] is not ready to come back.

Im in the minority here, perhaps because it is a family name but I happen to love [name]Gladys[/name]. It’s my moms name and her nn is [name]GiGi[/name]

My dear, dear, dear mother-in-law is named [name]Gladys[/name] and she hates her name. She says when she was growing up the boys in school called her “[name]Glad[/name]-Ass”.

As for me - nah, just don’t like it.

Not ready for a comeback. [name]Gloria[/name] was better than [name]Gladys[/name].

What do you think of the name [name]Gladys[/name]?

  • A bit old-fashioned. I’d personally use [name]Claudia[/name] instead - they’re related names.

Does it fit with big sister [name]Florence[/name]?

  • Yup! Although they sound a bit like elderly sisters.

Does [name]Gladys[/name] Churchyard sound ok?

  • It sure does. [name]Claudia[/name] Churchyard also sounds lovely ;D

What nickname would you use?

  • [name]Addy[/name] or Gladdy? Idk.

Any middle name ideas?

  • I think you need something youthful and modern-ish. Not sure quite what though.

I have to agree with the other posters about not feeling [name]Gladys[/name]. It seems like an awkward name. The other poster’s suggestion of [name]Gloria[/name] with [name]Florence[/name] is right on though. For some reason [name]Cecelia[/name] popped into my mind as a suggestion, although I’m not sure that it fits with your style. Best of luck.

Thankyou everyone! Sorry not a fan of [name]Claudia[/name] or [name]Cecelia[/name] but thankyou for the ideas. Really appreciate your opinions - my friends all roll their eyes when I start name obsessing!

What do you think of the name [name]Gladys[/name]? [name]Love[/name] it
Does it fit with big sister [name]Florence[/name]? yes
Does [name]Gladys[/name] Churchyard sound ok? yes

Any middle name ideas? [name]Gladys[/name] [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Gladys[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name], [name]Gladys[/name] [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Gladys[/name] [name]Amanda[/name]

Not my cup of tea, but I totally get the unexpected grandma vibe. It would be so surprising to meet a little toddler [name]Gladys[/name]! I’m not crazy about [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Gladys[/name] though. Maybe because they both end with an S sound. I know you didn’t ask for suggestions, but what about [name]Gertrude[/name] or [name]Agatha[/name] or [name]Millicent[/name]? I think [name]Florence[/name] and [name]Millicent[/name] (nn [name]Millie[/name]) would be adorable!

I am in the minority here, but I think [name]Gladys[/name] is cute and could possibly catch on. I am biased because it is my favorite grandma’s name, although she has admitted to disliking it. I like [name]Gigi[/name] and Gladdy for nicknames. [name]Gladys[/name] has a similar look and sound to [name]Carys[/name]/[name]Cerys[/name] - also Welsh names.

Have you thought about using it in the middle? I will consider [name]Gladys[/name] or [name]Glad[/name] as a middle name if I have a girl.

I like [name]Gladys[/name]. I like that it has the word [name]Glad[/name] in it, it sounds happy.

I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I get the vintage/grandma-y thing, but [name]Gladys[/name] feels a little heavy on my tongue (where [name]Florence[/name] feels lighter and romantic)

[name]Gladys[/name]? I would say no. It’s really dated and not very attractive imo. My friend’s middle name is [name]Glad[/name] after a great-aunt named [name]Gladys[/name].

[name]Florence[/name] is pretty

The name [name]Gladys[/name] makes me think of the play The Best [name]Christmas[/name] Pageant [name]Ever[/name]. A sibling set of 6 kids star in the play and the youngest was [name]Gladys[/name] and her catchphrase is saying, “SHAZAAM!!!” Lol =)

The sib set is: [name]Ralph[/name], [name]Imogene[/name], [name]Leroy[/name], [name]Claude[/name], [name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Gladys[/name]. Awwww.

Well, anyway I quite like the name (though I do NOT like the meaning: lame) but I don’t think it sounds great as a sister to [name]Florence[/name]. I would pick a different name… [name]Claudia[/name] is a variant of [name]Gladys[/name] if you are interested. =)

[name]Hi[/name]–I’m also in the camp of it being a dated name that is not ready for a come back. However, I do like trying to match with [name]Florence[/name]. Maybe [name]Frances[/name] or something classic that ends in “s” or [name]Lydia[/name] if you like the “yd” sound. [name]Do[/name] you have a nickname for [name]Florence[/name]? That also may give some direction. Good luck
