[name]Hi[/name] there! Not pregnant or anything, but brainstorming for my ever-changing girls list. My name is [name]Freya[/name] and I’ve always thought the goddess connection was pretty cool, and I also like the relative unusual-ness of my name (I live in the U.S, and I’ve never met another [name]Freya[/name], though I know my name’s very popular across the sea!) If you guys have any favorite goddess names or names with mythological connections, common or obscure, lay 'em on me!
My name is [name]Diana[/name], which is the name of a [name]Goddess[/name]
Here are my favorites:
[name]Artemis[/name] (greek version of [name]Diana[/name])
[name]Athena[/name]
[name]Aphrodite[/name]
[name]Andromeda[/name]
[name]Euphemia[/name]
[name]Minerva[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Persephone[/name]
[name]Selene[/name]
Some beautiful names from the Norse mythology:
[name]Eir[/name]
Frigg
Gefion
[name]Saga[/name] (!!!)
My favorites:
Elpis- I don’t love it for its sound; it reminds me too much of [name]Elvis[/name]. When [name]Pandora[/name] opened the box, hope was the one thing left after everything else flew out. Elpis is considered the personification of hope.
[name]Lorelei[/name]- The whole “luring sailors to their deaths with her song” thing is pretty negative, but the sound is heavenly.
[name]Ceridwen[/name]- [name]How[/name] cool would it be to be named after the goddess of poetry?
[name]Guinevere[/name]- Fabulous Arthurian name that lends itself to the friendly nns [name]Gwen[/name] or [name]Gwyn[/name].
[name]Rhiannon[/name]- Means “great queen”, and RiRi is possibly the cutest nn [name]EVER[/name].
[name]Clio[/name]- Fabulously adorable name with serious mythological pedigree.
[name]Isolde[/name]- Gorgeous, tragic myth.
[name]Aurora[/name]- Not a fan of possible nn [name]Rory[/name], but [name]Aurora[/name] itself is pure beauty.
[name]Flora[/name]- Spunky grandma name.
[name]Juno[/name]- I don’t love the connection to the film, but the name itself is awesome.
[name]Victoria[/name]- My all-time favorite name, and the goddess of victory.
Euphrosyne- [name]One[/name] of the 3 Graces in Greek mythology. Beautiful sound.
[name]Evadne[/name]- Lends itself to pretty nn [name]Evie[/name].
[name]Phoebe[/name]- [name]Lovely[/name] name that could fit anyone.
[name]Isis[/name]- Familiar yet unusual, and oh so cool!
Phew! I think that’s all.
[name]Nerissa[/name] (A sea nymph)
[name]Echo[/name]
[name]Demeter[/name]
[name]Venus[/name]
[name]Nyx[/name] (Greek goddess of night)
[name]Eirene[/name] (Greek goddess of peace)
[name]Daphne[/name] (a fresh water nymph)
[name]Circe[/name] (Greek goddess/witch depending on what version you read)
[name]Niobe[/name] (a princess in Greek mythology)
[name]Danae[/name] (one of [name]Zeus[/name]’ mortal lovers and the mother of [name]Perseus[/name], who killed Medusa)
Ooh, thank you everyone so far! I especially like [name]Athena[/name], [name]Hermione[/name], [name]Saga[/name], [name]Rhiannon[/name], [name]Clio[/name] and [name]Danae[/name].
