Going crazy trying to find a name for our second son

I feel like my wife and I are beating our heads against the wall trying to come up with a name that we like for our second son, so I’m reaching out to you all for help. We’ve gone through countless name books and lists, and keep coming up with the same three names, but don’t necessarily love any of them.

So, here is the criteria that we’re working with. Our first son’s name is Jameson – middle name Robert. We are looking for a name that has a similar feel to Jameson, but doesn’t sound too similar. We both agree that Jameson feels masculine and rugged – and evokes a feel of cowboy and Celtic, with a touch of sophistication. We’d love for our second born to have a similar feel, so it’s not a situation where we have Jameson and David (or something like that).

It would also be great if our second born’s name not only sounds good on its own, but also works well paired with his big brother’s name.

Lastly and not as big of a deal, but something we’d like to do if it works, is incorporate “Lee” into his name – most likely as a middle name. As a nod to my late grandmother’s nickname.

The names we keep coming back to are Westley (the “Lee” is in the first name), Bennett, and Nolan. Westley and Bennett are the ones we come back to the most, but we’re not really in love with any of them.

Would love to hear your suggestions for possible names, as well as input on the three I mentioned. We’d also most likely like to stick with a 2 or 3-syllable first name, since our last name is one syllable. Thanks in advance!

*I think we’re going to end up going with Westley, but I’ll leave this up in case someone has some other names that haven’t been mentioned. Who knows? Maybe we’ll get hit with a home run name that we like more, before the baby arrives. Thanks everyone!

**For anyone who’s interested, my wife and I are now struggling to figure out a middle name haha. Looking for a middle name for Westley

Would love to hear your thoughts over there too! Thanks!

This is just personal taste and association but I find [name_m]Westley[/name_m] quite soft and sweet rather than rugged & masculine. I find [name_m]Easton[/name_m] would fit the image you are looking for better (I’m in the UK, if you are in the US we are unlikely to feel the same vibes I think) but is that far too on the nose cowboy? I hope there will be some crossover with these ideas, as I do find [name_m]Bennet[/name_m] and [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] to be more the style you’re searching for.

[name_m]Jameson[/name_m] and [name_m]Bentley[/name_m]- mixes together [name_m]Westley[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] and gives you the [name_m]Lee[/name_m] sound.

I like [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] and [name_m]Silas[/name_m], but my wife isn’t a fan of either of them. I’m not sure I like them as much as [name_m]Westley[/name_m] or [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. Thank you so much for your response!

I want to like [name_m]Levi[/name_m], but for whatever reason I’m just not a fan of the name. I have entertained the names [name_m]Owen[/name_m] and [name_m]Rowen[/name_m], but my wife doesn’t like them at all. Thanks for your response!

[name_f]Riley[/name_f] was actually one of the names that was on our list for [name_m]Jameson[/name_m], but it fell off and never made it back on for this kiddo. I like it, but not as much as [name_m]Westley[/name_m] or [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. It also sounds more soft than rugged to me.

I like [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] too, but my wife is not as sold on it haha.

[name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] unfortunately is a no go, because [name_m]Jameson[/name_m] has a close cousin with that name. I’ve mentioned [name_m]Russell[/name_m] a few times to my wife, but she has the same response every time – “no, it sounds like an old man name to me.”

Thanks for your response!

" This is just personal taste and association but I find Westley quite soft and sweet rather than rugged & masculine."

That’s interesting. I hadn’t thought of that. We are based in the US, so maybe it is as you say. I felt that the “ley” made it sound a bit softer, but not enough that it kept it from being rugged and masculine. I tried Weston in response, but neither of us dig that.

Thanks for your response!

I’m curious now… How does everyone else feel about Westley? Soft & Sweet -OR - Rugged & Masculine?

I like [name_m]Finley[/name_m] and [name_m]Aiden[/name_m], but my wife does not. I will admit that they don’t sound as rugged as I’d like. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife likes [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] and I’m not sure what it is, but I just don’t dig that name.

Thanks for your response!

Westley and Bennett are brilliant - I like them!

Yeah, there’s a reason we keep coming back to [name_m]Westley[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m] haha. It’s weird, because when I mentioned [name_m]Jameson[/name_m] with our first son we both were like “that’s it.” This time around, we like [name_m]Westley[/name_m] and [name_m]Bennett[/name_m], but neither of them have had that same impact.

I like [name_m]Leland[/name_m] and [name_m]Beckett[/name_m], but my wife has vetoed both.

Thanks for your response!

[name_f]My[/name_f] strongest association with [name_m]Wesley[/name_m] is the swashbuckling man in black in “The [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Bride.” For me this gives the name a romantic hero vibe kind of like [name_m]Robin[/name_m] via [name_m]Robin[/name_m] Hood or [name_m]Flynn[/name_m] via early Hollywood action star [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_m]Flynn[/name_m]. That’s one flavor of masculinity, but I don’t get rugged grit like I do with other more traditionally ‘cowboy’ names. I get daring, courageous, and plucky.

I don’t mind [name_m]Beckham[/name_m] and [name_m]Finnegan[/name_m], but I don’t like them as much as [name_m]Westley[/name_m] or [name_m]Bennett[/name_m]. [name_f]My[/name_f] wife isn’t a fan of either of them.
