Good on paper

I thought it might be fun to list names that you like in writing or “on paper” but don’t like when they are said out loud. A few that come to mind for me are:

[name_f]Amada[/name_f]
[name_f]Anais[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]
[name_f]Celeste[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Xiomara[/name_f]

I love the looks but find I love them less when I say them out loud! What are yours??

Ugh I know what you mean. [name_u]Greer[/name_u] is like that for me

[name_f]Lilia[/name_f] and [name_f]Hanna[/name_f] / [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] for me

[name_f]Katharina[/name_f]
[name_f]Anneliese[/name_f]

I agree with [name_f]Anais[/name_f] - I do still like it said out loud but not as I like the look of it

I like the look of [name_f]Vivianne[/name_f] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] but the sound of [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] better.

[name_m]Graham[/name_m] - sounds like “gram” like a grandma
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] - sounds like papi or a name for a grandpa
[name_f]Lyra[/name_f] - I love the idea of this name but I pronounce it differently each time I say it - Lie-ra/Leer-uh
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] - sounds too mumbly and kind of blends together in a tongue twister when I say it
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] - I had this on my list until my SO pointed out it sounds like “I’ll rail ya”

Your list made me smile simply because my pronunciation of each of those names is so completely different to yours. I would say [name_m]Graham[/name_m] as Grey-am rather than gram for instance.
When we were naming our daughter we had so much trouble with accents because I have an [name_f]English[/name_f] accent and my husband a kiwi one and half the time we only liked the name we were suggesting in our own accent and not the other :joy:
In the end we picked a name we both like in our own accent and don’t dislike in the other so DH calls her El-en-Nor and I call her El-e-nah

I lovee these names, but not when I personally say them …
Alba, Aurora, Aviva, Adeliza, Atlas, Aldo, Cosmo, Elio, Freya, Geneva, Katarina, Leandro, Ottilie, Violet, Valentina

In Spanish I don’t like the sound of Amelia, Romeo, Isadora & Felix :persevere:

for some reason ramona. it looks so pretty on paper, but when it’s said out loud it just sounds so clunky…

I feel the same way about [name_f]Anais[/name_f], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], and [name_f]Celeste[/name_f]. Some others:
