Got the nickname, but want a real name

The only name that my husband and I can even semi-agree on is [name]Tex[/name]. The only problem is, is that I really want a more preofessional full name that we can use [name]Tex[/name] as a nickname for that our boy could go by if he wants to. Any suggestions for a name that you can get [name]Tex[/name] out of?

[name]John[/name]
[name]Thomas[/name]
[name]Texas[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Tavio[/name]
[name]Tavion[/name]
[name]Teo[/name]/[name]Teos[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Teodore[/name]
[name]Tedrick[/name]
[name]Terenz[/name]
[name]Tegon[/name]
[name]Teran[/name]
[name]Tedd[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name]
[name]Telly[/name]
[name]Terrance[/name]
[name]Tejas[/name]
[name]Tenson[/name]
[name]Teton[/name]
[name]Teylor[/name]
[name]Tenison[/name]
[name]Teive[/name]

My picks: [name]Theodore[/name], [name]Terrance[/name], [name]Thomas[/name], or [name]Edward[/name] with a middle name that starts with a X ([name]Xavier[/name]? [name]Xander[/name]?) would lend itself to the nn [name]Tex[/name]

OR if [name]Tex[/name] is what you can agree on maybe just go with [name]Tex[/name]

If you’re ok with two middles the initials [name]TEX[/name] would be cool, like [name]Tobias[/name] [name]Edward[/name] [name]Xander[/name] or something like that.

ellieberry- Thanks for the list! I am actually really liking [name]Tedrick[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name], and I’ve always really liked the name [name]Thomas[/name]. Or we could maybe even twist [name]Tedrick[/name] to Tedrix or Tedrickson? Or [name]Tenison[/name] changed to Tenickson? Too different maybe? I don’t know, but it does pull in the X sound. I wouldn’t have even thought of them without your list :). And I love the middle name beginning with an X idea if we choose [name]Theodore[/name] or [name]Thomas[/name].

katiebug- I would so be for that idea because there would be so many more options, except we have such a long last name! But [name]Tobias[/name] is cute! I haven’t even thought of that  Thanks!

[name]Tex[/name] is one of those nicknames that I feel doesn’t relate to a full name in any way, similar to [name]Buddy[/name], [name]Red[/name], [name]Duke[/name], etc. So I would suggest you just name your son whatever you want and then use [name]Tex[/name] as a nickname.

Have you considered [name]Rex[/name]? It’s very similar to [name]Tex[/name] but can stand on its own as a full name.

I think any T- name with middle initial X makes [name]Tex[/name] an intuitive nickname choice. I heard on one of the blogs about a little boy named [name]Richard[/name] the fourth who went by [name]River[/name] (from inital R and IV after his name). So it all works. [name]Pansy[/name] makes a good point about this type of nickname not coming directly from the given name–my grandfather went by [name]Bud[/name] and his name was [name]Harold[/name]. The father of a good friend of mine is named [name]Tex[/name] and I’ve always assumed that his name was [name]John[/name] or something and he just went by [name]Tex[/name].

Behind the Name says that the American animator [name]Tex[/name] [name]Avery[/name]'s given name was [name]Frederick[/name] and he was called [name]Tex[/name] because he was from [name]Texas[/name].

I did a little searching and here’s what I came up with for names starting with a Tek sound:
Tekoa (From Behind the Name: Means “stockade” in Hebrew. In the Old Testament this was the name of a both a city and a son of Ashhur.)
Tycho (From Behind the Name: From the Greek name ??? (Tychon) meaning “hitting the mark”. This was the name of a Greek saint. It was also borne by the Danish astronomer Tycho Brahe (1546-1601).)

Also, I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rex[/name]. Since I live in [name]Texas[/name], [name]Tex[/name] is a little too much for me but [name]Rex[/name] is perfect.

I agree with a pp that a nn does not have to relate to the actual name. Believe me. My mom’s side of the family is full of people with nn’s that don’t relate to the actual name. Mom’s name is [name]Sheron[/name], nn WooWoo. Her twin sister’s name is [name]Karen[/name], nn Tinky. My grandma’s name is [name]Velma[/name], nn Toad. These are just a few of many nn’s that don’t really make sense in my family. lol And yes, they were even called these nn’s all the way through school by their teachers and friends!
What’s dad’s name? Make baby a junior and call him [name]Tex[/name]. That’s my vote. Good luck!
