Gotta new list! What do you think?

• Adrastea
(Or Adrasteia, not sure on the spelling yet)
[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f]
(I can’t really decide whether I like this or [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] more)
• Azeneth
(Ancient Egyptian and Old Testament name, ah-zee-neth)
• [name_m]Azriel[/name_m]
• [name_f]Damiana[/name_f]
• [name_u]Damaris[/name_u]
(Not completely sure how to pronounce this one as I’ve seen people say both da-[name_f]MAR[/name_f]-iss and da-[name_f]MARE[/name_f]-iss, my favorite pronunciation being the latter)
• [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]
(I love this name spelled with the trema accent, Maëlys - pronounced may-leese)
• [name_f]Marcella[/name_f]
[name_f]Morrigan[/name_f]

A lot of these names are definitely out there (I definitely favor the unusual) some of them you’ve probably seen me ask about before ([name_m]Azriel[/name_m]) but most are new to my lists.

So what do you think?

Are these for girls? [name_m]Azriel[/name_m] is a boys name to me and sounds odd for a girl. My favorites are [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] and [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]

I like [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] and [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] best.

[name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce Adrastea?

[name_f]Maelys[/name_f] is great! I really like the sounds! I also really like [name_f]Marcella[/name_f] and [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f]!

I like these four:
• [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] - I like the connection to [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] Gentileschi but I do prefer the simpler [name_u]Artemis[/name_u].
• [name_u]Damaris[/name_u] - I would intuitively say Da-[name_f]Mare[/name_f]-is.
• [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] - When I learned this name in [name_m]French[/name_m] class, we pronounced it My-leese. I like both pronunciations.
• [name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] - I love the way this name sounds!

Adrastea/Adrasteia - I love the ‘eia’ ending, but ‘[name_f]Adra[/name_f]’ followed by ‘stea/steia’ seems hard to say. [name_m]Even[/name_m] as I’m writing I have to think ‘[name_m]Ah[/name_m]-Drah’ because my brain keeps giving me Adastria/Adastrea ([name_m]Add[/name_m]-ah-stree-ah). Which actually I think is quite pretty. I think it’s making me the of Ad Astra, which may be the motto of the Royal Air Force - ‘Per Ardua ad Astra’ is a Latin phrase meaning “through adversity to the stars”. Ad Astra/Adastra is pretty cool though, especially if you want to pilot.

[name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] - I like both [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] and [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f]. I think I slightly prefer [name_u]Artemis[/name_u], I like the straight link to the [name_f]Goddess[/name_f]. But [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f] still pretty.

Azeneth - I’m only reading it as [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_u]Zen[/name_u]-Eth, not [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-zee-neth. I think the ‘[name_u]Zen[/name_u]’ sound is much more appealing than the ‘[name_f]Zee[/name_f]’ sound. However, if you prefer [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-zee-neth then I think it does work, and it’s a pretty cool name. I might expect it slightly more on a boy.

[name_m]Azriel[/name_m] - All boy to me, sorry. It’s a cool name though. I think it’s also the name of the [name_m]Prince[/name_m] of Cats who marries a fairy in the original [name_m]Spyro[/name_m] games. He’s a punk biker.

[name_f]Damiana[/name_f] - [name_u]Day[/name_u]-me-ah-na? Damm-ee-ah-na? I don’t really like it, sorry. I dislike [name_m]Damian[/name_m] names in general and this just feels like you’re tacking an ‘a’ or ‘ana’ onto it.

[name_u]Damaris[/name_u] - I automatically say Da-[name_f]MAR[/name_f]-iss and I think it’s lovely. I probably wouldn’t get the da-[name_f]MARE[/name_f]-iss pronunciation without being told, I don’t know what your accent is though, I know US accents often go for the ‘air’ sound more often than British ones (e.g. in the US [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - Care-oh-line / [name_f]Clara[/name_f] - [name_u]Clair[/name_u]-ah whereas in the UK it’s more likely to be Cah-ro-line and Clarr-uh)

[name_f]Maelys[/name_f] - I’m glad I now know how to say this name, unfortunately I now like it far less. I had been reading it as [name_f]Mae[/name_f]-elis and quite liked it. I don’t like the ‘leese’ part of the actual pronouncation.

[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] - [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]. A lot more normal than many of the others, but no less nice.

[name_f]Morrigan[/name_f] - It’s ok. I prefer either [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] or [name_u]Madigan[/name_u].

If you spell [name_f]Maelys[/name_f] with the trema accent like Maëlys, people will be less likely to pronounce the name correctly. The accent looks pretty, but it exists to ensure that people pronounce two neighbor vowels independently instead of as a diphthong. Maëlys would be pronounced “ma-[name_f]EL[/name_f]-ees”, not “[name_f]MAY[/name_f]-leese” like you want.

Adrastea is alright. I like out-there names but this doesn’t quite feel like a name to me. It could make for a stunning middle name though!
I like [name_u]Artemis[/name_u] more than [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], the latter is still attractive but feels a bit fussy
Azeneth doesn’t feel that usable to me, it’s more of a character name. I like Azrial but on a boy.
I quite like [name_f]Damiana[/name_f]! I think it sounds very sweet and has nice nicknames. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you pronounce it? Dah-[name_f]MYA[/name_f]-nah is the first thing that comes to mind, but day-mee-[name_m]AH[/name_m]-nah is nice as well.
[name_u]Damaris[/name_u] is nice but I prefer the da-[name_f]MAR[/name_f]-iss pronunciation.
Not completely sure how to pronounce this one as I’ve seen people say both da-[name_f]MAR[/name_f]-iss and da-[name_f]MARE[/name_f]-iss, my favorite pronunciation being the latter)
[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Maelys[/name_f]’ sound, but I wouldn’t use the accent for the reason stated in the previous poster’s comment.
[name_f]Marcella[/name_f] reminds me of [name_f]Francesca[/name_f], and other long and spunky Italian-vibe girls’ names. It feels the slightest bit dated to me, because of the [name_m]Marc[/name_m] part, but not too much
