I’ve heard a few unique ones over the last few weeks and am wondering what you berries think.
Violin - [name]Viola[/name] is used and the -lin ending is very popular, would you consider this at all usable?
Seraiah - I read a book with a character named [name]Soraya[/name] a few weeks ago and loved the name, but it felt too ethnic for me. Then I saw Seraiah on a list of Biblical names. [name]How[/name] would you pronounce it? Does it look too made up? What do you think?
Verily - I like this because it has a bit of the old-fashioned feel ([name]Vera[/name]-[name]Lee[/name]) yet it means truly. Would this forever be mistaken for [name]Verity[/name]? Is it too strange? What do you think?
[name]Theophilus[/name] - for the boys, is this too heavily Biblical? I love the meaning (friend of God) and I like the option for [name]Theo[/name] or [name]Phil[/name], but is it just too weird?
I’ve been trying out Violin in my head too, but since I crave obscurity, I’m not always the best judge of practical usage…
Seraiah is pretty! Verily WOULD fit in, and [name]Theophilus[/name] is too much for me.
Violin and Verily are both no gos in my opinion. I really dislike the spelling of Seraiah, I think it just looks like too many Bowles for me I think, but I love the name behind it do it could work. Personally I don’t think [name]Soraya[/name] is too ethnic. I did know a litte [name]Suraya[/name] once if you like that spelling? [name]Theophilus[/name] definitely works!
I think I’m just crazy enough to actually use Verily. I just adore it so much.
I don’t think I’d ever use Violin, but I do think it’s pretty. Maybe save it for a fictional character

Seraiah/[name]Soraya[/name] is still up in the air as well. I think it’s absolutely beautiful, but the practicality of spelling issues will probably drive me away.
Seraiah on a boy would be ballsy (and it is a boy’s name in the Bible) but on a girl, especially with the “it’s Biblical…” bit, just looks like someone decided [name]Sarai[/name] needed an -ah ending for some reason. No offense.
Violin, well, I love [name]Viola[/name] but I hate -lyn as a suffix and it reminds me of that. I could possibly see it as a middle name. [name]Sister[/name] to [name]Aria[/name]?
Verily I could see working but it reminds me of Russian name [name]Vasiliy[/name]/[name]Vasili[/name]. I would prefer [name]Verity[/name] but I [name]ADORE[/name] [name]Verity[/name] so no big surprise there.
Theophilius is better than [name]Theodore[/name] (I dislike [name]Theodore[/name]) but I’d prefer Theodosius or especially [name]Thaddeus[/name].
Violin - actually, I used to know someone who knew a Violyn. I think [name]Viola[/name] was a family name but they wanted to modernize it or something. I had a huge crush on it for the longest time. I’m not sure how usable it is now, but I grew up with music, I took piano off and on since I was five, I’ve attended concertos in high school and all this, so I do really love Violin/Violyn as a GP.
Seraiah - now that @stripedsocks mentions it, Seraiah does really seem Biblical-masculine. I just thought it was a trendy take on [name]Soraya[/name]. I think Seraiah looks more ethnic than [name]Soraya[/name].
Verily - I think it’s cute, but [name]Verity[/name] seems so much more namey. I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Verity[/name], so I agree with @stripedsocks again, I’d prefer to see [name]Verity[/name] by a mile. I do love the nn Very, though.
[name]Theophilus[/name] I like. I don’t love it because I really don’t like [name]Theo[/name], but I do think it’s pretty cool, and I love the Biblical [name]Theophilus[/name] (and its meaning). I do prefer [name]Theodore[/name], though…
Violin- To me, it feels like naming a child Spoon or Paperclip.
Seraiah- I prefer [name]Soraya[/name] (feels fuller, with the simpler vowels.)
Verily- [name]Love[/name] this. Such a wonderful old word- works well as a name, rolls off the tongue.
[name]Theophilus[/name]- NMS. So heavy… feels like it’s right in line with the quirky-heavy Biblical trend, so it’s definitely hip… But I wouldn’t use it without a specific connection to the meaning of the name. Like [name]Sophronia[/name], I’d be tickled to meet a [name]Theophilus[/name], but I wouldn’t bestow the name on my own son.
I actually know a couple that just named their baby [name]Theophilus[/name]. It was definitely a surprising choice, but it’s grown on me. They have a really common and generic last name, so the quirky fn really works.
Yes, it’s masculine in the Bible, but as others have mentioned with Sara, Sarai, and the plethora of -a ending female names, it’s impossible to imagine on a male. It’s interesting that Seraiah looks more ethnic to you than Soraya. I guess I’ve felt that Soraya is ethnic because the character I read who wore it was Persian and I’ve never heard it on a person irl. Also, most Biblical names have lost their ethnic feel since they’ve been around for so long.

That’s interesting! For me, I grew up memorizing Bible verses in the old King James version so “Verily, verily, I say unto you…” is extremely familiar to me, and that’s translated in the more modern version as “Truly, truly, I say to you…”.
I actually like the name Truly as well, but I can’t get that song from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang out of my head, lol “Truly Scrumptious”.
So for me, Verily means truly in a very direct sense.
I do like the name Verity a lot! Don’t get me wrong! I just have a weird obsession with v’s and l’s (Levi, Livy, Olivia, Lavinia, etc.)
