[name]Just[/name] wondering… I love [name]Grace[/name]… but have always thought of [name]Gracie[/name] as a nn for [name]Grace[/name]. I see if you search [name]Grace[/name] on the site, [name]Gracie[/name] is listed as “earthier” what does that mean?? Thoughts?
I personally prefer [name]Gracie[/name] as a nickname for [name]Grace[/name]. I imagine whomever defined [name]Gracie[/name] finds this version “earthier” based on its less formal, (perhaps) more down-to-earth sound (esp. now that nicknames are becoming more popular as stand-alone names). But I find [name]Grace[/name] plenty warm and welcoming on its own, and [name]Gracie[/name] cutesy, not earthy. I also think of “[name]Say[/name] goodnight, [name]Gracie[/name]!” “Goodnight, [name]Gracie[/name]…” from the old comedy sketch.
I think of it only as a nickname
Either way, both [name]Grace[/name] and [name]Gracie[/name] work well with all ages, and can be nn for eachother. It would seem a bit odd to put [name]Gracie[/name] on the birth certificate and not [name]Grace[/name]. But its doable. [name]Both[/name] adorable and have such significance.
I personally know a mother who struggled with the same issue when she was naming her 3rd (and youngest!) child. She wanted to name her [name]Gracie[/name], but her husband pointed out how she might want to use just [name]Grace[/name] instead as she aged. Mom agreed. So they decided her legal name would be [name]Grace[/name]–even though I never hear anyone call her that (everyone calls her [name]Gracie[/name]) and she’s 3 years old now! Personally, I love both [name]Grace[/name] & [name]Gracie[/name], but if you really love [name]Gracie[/name], it’ll stand on it’s own on your daughter over time if not right away, I’m sure.
I personally prefer [name]Grace[/name] with the nn [name]Gracie[/name]. I’m honestly not sure what they mean–[name]Gracie[/name] doesn’t have an earthier/more down-to-earth feel to me, it has a more childish feel. [name]One[/name] of my best friends right now is a [name]Grace[/name], and she goes by [name]Gracie[/name] to her friends and family. But she’s said right out that she’s so grateful that her full name isn’t [name]Gracie[/name] because it doesn’t sound as mature and she doesn’t want total strangers calling her [name]Gracie[/name]. It’s something she feels is reserved for family and close friends…
Good luck!
I think [name]Gracie[/name] on its own sounds a bit young. I really do love it as a nickname for [name]Grace[/name], though. I’m not sure what they mean by “earthier” either!
