This is a fairly basic thread, I just want to know do you pronounce them differently?
Out loud, I would pronounce them the same. When I read [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] I read it in my head like ‘graym’, but I would say ‘gram’ out loud just like I would with [name_m]Graham[/name_m].
I would say them the same. I totally prefer [name_m]Graeme[/name_m]. It just seems softer & more polished. I’m really not sure why.
I pronounce them the same way. I could be wrong but I think Americans say ‘gram’ whereas Australians (and maybe the British?) say gray-uhm. I probably shouldn’t speak for all Australians and British but I say it that way!
I’d say them the same ([name_u]Gray[/name_u]-um) but i prefer the look of [name_m]Graham[/name_m]
Second this (Australian/English background here)
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] was my grandad so this spelling has always been more natural to me
I do pronounce them differently. To me, [name_m]Graham[/name_m] is said as gram & [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] is gray-um (also have heard grame for this spelling).
Interesting! Thanks for your feedback
I pronounce [name_m]Graham[/name_m] “gray-uhm” and [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] pretty similar but maybe a little softer??
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] is a family name for me too so I’m much more familiar with it
I’m in Australia and [name_m]Graeme[/name_m]/[name_m]Graham[/name_m] is a very common name here for men aged 50 and above. Both pronounced in the same way - [name_u]GRAY[/name_u]-uhm.
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] looks the most natural spelling, but I don’t mind [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] either.
[name_u]Gray[/name_u]-uhm is the pronunciation of this. Drives me crazy when I hear it pronounced [name_m]Gram[/name_m].
I would pronounce them the same, “gram”, but if you’re in the US, I think you’d get a lot of mispronunciation with the spelling [name_m]Graeme[/name_m]
[name_m]Graham[/name_m] would be “[name_m]Gram[/name_m]” to me. I’ve never heard of [name_m]Graeme[/name_m] before, and my inclination is to say “[name_u]Gray[/name_u]-me”, but I would pronounce it “[name_m]Gram[/name_m]” now that I know.
