Graham---what style do you think this name is?

Hello again,

We really like the name [name]Graham[/name], but are a tiny bit put off by the commonality of the name, even though it’s not “that common”. What type of name do you see this as? Yupster? Old fashioned? Friendly? [name]Young[/name] kid, old grandpa?

I’m not asking whether you like it or not, we do and don’t really want to hear negatives, but what do you think? It seems kind of classic yet new, familiar yet not that common, but that’s just me.

Also, for extra credit, what names would you put in this same category? Maybe some less common names that are “like” [name]Graham[/name].

Thank you!!! Can’t wait to hear your responses.

Oh, and we live in the U.S., so the pronunciation is “[name]Gram[/name]”.

I see it as a southern classic. [name]Graham[/name] is laid back, masculine, a little rugged, charming.

Bedhead, i think we’re on the same page. I’m wondering if people think it’s snobby at all…I don’t see it in that light.

What do you think of these middles?

graham alexander (obvious comparisons to alexander graham belle noted)
graham everett
graham sawyer
graham julian
graham oliver
graham gabriel
graham arthur
graham atticus
graham augustus

Oh no I don’t find it to be snobby at all.

[name]Graham[/name] [name]Alexander[/name]: [name]Love[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name]: [name]Love[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]: Ok.
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Julian[/name]: [name]Julian[/name] is great but I don’t like the names together.
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]: [name]Love[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]: I’m all for alliteration but I don’t like this too much.
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]: [name]Arthur[/name]'s ok.
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Atticus[/name]: When I say this out loud it sounds like all one word but I like [name]Atticus[/name].
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Augustus[/name]: I like this but prefer [name]August[/name].

I agree with your classification of [name]Graham[/name] as a name that is classic yet new. I could imagine it on a grandfather or a baby. I think it is a solid familiar name, but your son will probably not meet many others.

[name]Graham[/name] hits the same chords with me that [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] do. Sweet, well-meaning, perhaps with a slightly upper-crust air (but in a friendly non-condescending way).

To me, [name]Graham[/name] is tasteful, handsome, and sounds a bit like a last name. It’s been around for a while as a first name though. [name]Love[/name] [name]Graham[/name] [name]Arthur[/name] so much!

Ok thanks for the replies!!

Now for the middle name.

We are open to suggestions, but here are a few we like. What do you like/dislike? Our last name is [name]Baze[/name], and we are aware of the short, choppiness of [name]Graham[/name] [name]Baze[/name], but we’re ok with it. We’re more into first names and how it sounds with our daughter’s name, [name]Gemma[/name].

[name]Graham[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Harrison[/name]
[name]Graham[/name]…your suggestion!

My very faves. are def. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Alexander[/name] or [name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name], so handsome.

The image of [name]Graham[/name] for me is that of an English or Scottish gentleman who is intelligent and debonair. Some other names that match are [name]Ethan[/name], [name]Noah[/name], [name]Jackson[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], [name]Everett[/name], [name]Grant[/name], [name]Owen[/name], [name]Ian[/name], [name]Oliver[/name], [name]Gavin[/name], [name]Gabriel[/name] or [name]Aidan[/name].

Here are the current middles we are thinking of…
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Julien[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Adrian[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Dylan[/name]

[name]Alexander[/name] got vetoed by the wife.

Thoughts on top 3? Thanks!

[name]Graham[/name] [name]Julien[/name] - Too matchy
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Adrian[/name] - see above
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name] - Southern gentleman name - OK
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name] - Distinguised
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] - My fav to go with [name]Gemma[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name] IT.
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] - Not too crazy about the two “G”'s
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Dylan[/name] - Again the sounds are too matchy

I was going to suggest [name]Graham[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] but it has disappeared from your shortlist. I think it’s a great combination.
Other suggestions
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Maxwell[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Lorne[/name]
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Alasdair[/name] (instead of [name]Alexander[/name] that was vetoed)
[name]Graham[/name] [name]Anderson[/name]

[name]Graham[/name] [name]Winslow[/name]

  1. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name]
  2. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]
  3. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name] (distant third)

[name]Mischa[/name], thanks, I really like [name]Harrison[/name] too, my wife thinks it might be too serious sounding, though I think it’s more all American, tribute to [name]George[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] at the same time. So I guess it’s British and American…ha.

[name]Oliver[/name], [name]Everett[/name] and [name]Harrison[/name], then [name]Sawyer[/name] are mine, my wife is looking for a little different style for the middle…hard to explain what she likes…[name]Sparrow[/name], [name]Dylan[/name], ugh. Since we are playing it sort of safe with [name]Graham[/name], she wants the middle to be a little less safe I guess. [name]Sparrow[/name]'s not gonna happen…ha.

[name]Hi[/name] Jackobeam, nice to hear from you again! You are taking on all of the responsibility of posting on this site to keep the stress from your wife??!!?? Ha! Ha! [name]Shame[/name] about [name]Graham[/name] [name]Harrison[/name] but that’s life. From your list, it’s [name]Graham[/name] [name]Oliver[/name] by a landslide with [name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name] in second. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Sawyer[/name] would be a distant third. Good luck!

[name]Graham[/name] to me is a new classic. It feels old fashioned and familiar but with a more modern vibe. It is def. not snobby. [name]Graham[/name] could go with brothers [name]Julian[/name] and [name]Thaddeus[/name] just as well as [name]Owen[/name] and [name]Brady[/name] imo. My favorite off your list would have to be [name]Graham[/name] [name]Everett[/name]. If your wife is looking for something a little more adventerous how about [name]Graham[/name] [name]Edison[/name], [name]Graham[/name] [name]Cooper[/name], or [name]Graham[/name] [name]Dexter[/name]?

[name]Graham[/name] [name]Dexter[/name] was on the longer list…but yes, that is the type. [name]Cooper[/name] is our cat! [name]Edison[/name] I like but her, not so much. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Jonah[/name], graham phoenix, there is a wide variety on our bigger
Iist. More suggestions would be awesome!!

Jackobeam, these suggestions are in honour of your wife’s adventurous spirit…

I love the name [name]Graham[/name]…[name]Graham[/name] everette would be my fav. from your list I think. It is a bit uppercrust sounding, but not it a bad way. It’s a very handsome name. I mean, he will get the occasional “graham cracker” joke, but teasing builds character. I think it’s a fab name
