Grandparent Names?

Based on the nameberry blog post…

What interesting grandparent names do you have? My [name_f]MIL[/name_f] and FIL are [name_m]Gram[/name_m] and Grandpa or Papa, not sure on that one yet.

My mom is just grandma for now, I think she wants to wait until my son gives her a name!

My grandma and grandpa were supposed to be Meme and [name_m]Pepe[/name_m], but it came out [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and Grumpy, and everyone calls them that now!

My other grandparenta are [name_f]Nannie[/name_f] and Papa.

My IL’s are Grammie and PawPaw. My parents are Gammy and PopPop. Great grandparents go by Grandpa/Grandma their first name on DH’s side. My one remaining grandparent is Papa.

My parents are Gran and Da, my parents-in-law are [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] and Pappy.
My grandparents are/were* just Grandmum & Grandad and Grandma & Grandad* (we differentiated the grandfathers by using their surnames).
My husband has/had* Marsie & Parsie* (in Australia) and MawMaw(?)* and PawPaw(?)* (in the US).

My son called my grandparents Great-Grandmum & GG until he heard me calling them Grandmum & Grandad, so now that’s what he calls them (my aunt and uncle are Grandmum and Grandad to their grandkids, hence the differentiation).
He calls my Grandma, “[name_m]Little[/name_m] Grandma” because she’s tiny - he’s pretty much the only person smaller than her! She loves it though.

My parents will likely just be Grandma and Grandpa, unless the baby or future children sort of mispronounce things when they starts talking which seems to be a trend in my family. That’s how we got Bompa (my great-great grandpa; this was my dad’s fault, apparently) and Grandma Toast (my great-grandma on the other side, whose last name rhymed with toast; one of my cousins didn’t know the difference). I kind of hope something cute comes up!

DH’s dad will be Opa, the Dutch version of Grandpa which the two cousins already call him. DH doesn’t associate with his mother so our kids won’t have any reason to call her anything–I think the cousins just call her “grandma.”

And between the two of us, we only have one grandparent left unfortunately–my grandmother! She’s just grandma to me, likely “Great Grandma” or “Great Grandma Last Name” to the baby, again unless there’s a fun mispronunciation. Not very imaginative I’m afraid! Maybe something else will feel right when the baby comes.

My dad said he wasn’t old enough to be a grandfather (He was 54 when our little one arrived! Definitely old enough LOL) so he chose to be “Poppa” rather than Grandpa/Grandad. He reckoned it sounded younger  My mum wanted to be Granny, but my [name_f]MIL[/name_f] had already claimed that one - she chose instead to be [name_f]Jilly[/name_f] (full name [name_f]Jillian[/name_f], and normally prefers to be called by her full name). My ILs are Granny & Grandad. Some very cute grandparent names above in this thread!

My mom goes by [name_u]Abi[/name_u], short for Abuela. My dad goes by Papa. My mother-in-law and step-father-in-law are [name_f]Lovey[/name_f] and [name_m]Buddy[/name_m]. My father-in-law and step-mother-in-law are just Grandma and Grandpa. They were hoping for [name_m]Lev[/name_m] to mispronounce this in a cute way, thus coming up with adorable grandparent nicknames. But he waited till he could pronounce words to start talking, so he just calls them Grandma and Grandpa. This is confusing bc a lot of his great grandparents are still with us, and we also call all of them Grandma and Grandpa.

Growing up I called my only set of grandparents [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and Pop. I called my great grandmother Grandma Great.

My daughter calls both of her grandmothers “grandma” and all of her grandfathers “grandpa”. Super creative. Actually she calls her grandpas “Paka” because that’s how grandpa comes out…might turn into “papa” one day. We try to encourage her to call her [name_m]German[/name_m] grandfather Opa.

My grandma goes by [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] (GG for Great Grandma) with my girls. My mom is [name_f]Nana[/name_f] and my dad is Paw-paw but our oldest took to calling him [name_f]Poppy[/name_f] because everyone you love ends in ee (Mommy, Daddy, [name_f]Poppy[/name_f]). Everyone else is Grandma/Grandpa name.

My grandparents were Grammy and Pappy/Memmie and Pap-Pap, and SO’s were Grammy and Pap-Pap/[name_f]Nana[/name_f] and Pop.

My mom has already decided she wants to be called [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], and SO’s mom wants to be called [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] (she’s very crunchy, so the “earth mama” thing suits her). SO’s dad hasn’t announced a preference yet, and my dad since he lives far away will probably just be Grandpa FN or Grandpa LN. I’m sure his wife will insist on something cutesy and “younger sounding” than Grandma. I’m pretty sure my dad’s other grandkids just call her by her first name so there’s that. I haven’t seen either of them in years so my kid probably won’t need to come up with a name for them for a long time.

My husband has Granny on one side and doesn’t know his grandfather and has Mamaw and Papaw on the other. His parents want to be Mamaw and Papaw if we have kids. I can not stand either of those so I’ll just say Grandma and Grandpa when we’re around them.

Both sets of my grandparents are Grandma and Grandpa Lastname. My grandfather refers to his himself as Pap/Pappy but my parents always referred to him as Grandpa so that’s what we called him. My parents have requested to be Grandma/Grandpa.

My uncle is Dogpaw to his grandkids since his name is Dog and his wife is Grammy.

Dad goes by Pop or Poppy, Mum is Maltese so she likes to go by Nanna, (pronounced like Nun-na).

@babylove14, [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] and Grumpy are adorable.

My grandparents are/were [name_f]Nana[/name_f], [name_u]Michael[/name_u], Grandma [name_m]Miller[/name_m], Grandpa [name_m]Ham[/name_m], and Grandma T (aka Grandma JuJu) and Grandpa T.

My kids’ grandparents are Gramma and Bah, and Grandma [name_u]Kris[/name_u] (“Gramma Kiss”) and Grandpa [name_m]Tom[/name_m].

My in-laws have grandchildren already from their older son, and they’re called Grammie and Grandaddy. My husband’s living grandparents are Grandma and Grandpa. I have one living grandmother, and she has always been Grandmother.

My baby will be my parents’ first grandchild. My dad wants to be called Papa, because that’s what his dad was called. My mom has no idea what she wants. I’m thinking [name_f]Nana[/name_f]? I’ve been searching for cute names, but none seem to suit her.

My grandparents are Grandma & Grandpa and on my other side they are [name_f]Nanny[/name_f] & [name_f]Zadie[/name_f].
