Gray

What are your opinions of the name [name]Gray[/name]? I think it has a lovely sound, I don’t find it drab or gloomy at all.
Her name will be [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name], but pretty sure we will call her [name]Gray[/name].
I know surnames for first names and unisex names are trendy and not everyone’s style, but just wanted to get a general opinion on it.

Edited to add, which spelling do you prefer? We originally agreed on Gray because it’s how gray is traditionally spelled in the US and we wanted to avoid the connection with a certain erotic novel, but would her name always be misspelled? Grey seems to be how most people are inclined to spell it.

So Gray or Grey? And why.

Thanks berries!

I like it!

I like it much more for a boy. I’ve met quite a few boys named [name]Gray[/name]/[name]Grey[/name], [name]Grayson[/name], or [name]Grady[/name] so its all boy to me. I guess it’s alright with a super feminine name like [name]Elizabeth[/name] and it does flow nicely, but I’d rather it be on a boy.

I love [name]Gray[/name] for a boy ([name]Grayson[/name] nn [name]Gray[/name] is on my own list), but I can appreciate [name]Gray[/name] on a girl, too. A friend of mine used to have [name]Genevieve[/name] [name]Amelia[/name] [name]Gray[/name] on her list, and I always thought that was lovely. [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is lovely, and I think [name]Gray[/name] totally works for a girl. I had always thought if I used [name]Grace[/name] for a FN, I would use the nn [name]Gray[/name] over [name]Gracie[/name]–I think its very striking, and I don’t think it’s too tied to one gender.

Good luck!

I recently asked my husband about naming our daughter [name]Gray[/name] – I think it’s cute and spunky on a little girl, but can also be professional as an adult. He vetoed it (as he always does with my names!) because he said it’s too “boyish” but I disagree. You should consider [name]Gray[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] if she will be called “[name]Gray[/name].”

[name]Gray[/name] is SUPER trendy, my cousin just named her newborn son, [name]Greyson[/name] and someone at her work named their daughter [name]Greyson[/name] as well. I am rather annoyed by it. It’s a nice name, but it’s overly used. I also prefer it on a boy.

I like [name]Gray[/name] but prefer [name]Grey[/name] on either gender. As a mn it’s no big deal; a mn can be anything

Dislike the name [name]Grayson[/name] a lot. [name]Just[/name] [name]Gray[/name], which hasn’t been in the top 1000…

As a middle name, I think it works fine on a girl. As a first name, I can only picture it on a boy. So yeah, I think [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name] with the nickname [name]Gray[/name] is fine.

I do like the [name]Grey[/name] spelling, but we chose [name]Gray[/name] in an effort to distance the possible connection with 50 shades or greys anatomy.

[name]Love[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name]! And love calling her [name]Gray[/name]! It is perfect and cool and smart for a girl.

[name]Gray[/name] is definitely more popular than [name]Teal[/name], but I think they are similar in a lot of ways- off beat unisex color name that skew more professional/serious/preppy. I think as a color & as a name [name]Gray[/name] is more soothing though. My only hesitation is that on a girl it feels a bit like an incomplete or misspoken [name]Grace[/name]. Aside from that I do like it even though the surname thing isn’t for me the color aspect appeals to me. [name]Gray[/name] feels cosy & makes me think of winter when the sky & ocean are the same color.

I don’t understand what’s so great about [name]Gray[/name] in the first place, but [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is perfectly fine.

All the [name]Grayson[/name]/[name]Greyson[/name]'s I know go by [name]Gray[/name]… so [name]Gray[/name] overall is annoying to me. My cousin’s Greyson is just Greyson, but that’s for now. He might end up getting Grey as a nickname (like the others). I just hear it everywhere, it’s become the next [name]Sarah[/name] (which I know at least 8 if not more). Sorry. I’m just at the point where “If I hear Gray one more time, I’m going to bang my head against a wall”

Maybe there aren’t very many Gray/Greyson/Grayson/etc… in your area as there is in mine and maybe it being super trendy/popular doesn’t bother you… but just thought I’d point out that it is being used a LOT, at least around me.

Anyway, as I said, it’s a nice name and I do think it sounds more boyish, but overall if you love it use it.

I rarely consider any names to be truly “unisex” but [name]Gray[/name] is one of the few that I really love on either.

I think [name]Gray[/name] for a girl is absolutely darling!

Which spelling do you prefer? [name]Gray[/name] or [name]Grey[/name]? Thanks!

[name]Gray[/name] is a fine name for a girl, i also don’t mind [name]Grayce[/name] as a feminisation.

I’m not too keen on [name]Elizabeth[/name] as I feel it’s quite plain, but [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name] is stunning and beautiful and I can’t get over how lovely that combo sounds…I’m not too sure why, but it just sounds lovely and [name]Gray[/name] as a nickname is cute and unexpected

I find it drab and gloomy. I don’t think it’s the best color name for a little girl. However, [name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Gray[/name] flows beautifully. I would go with the [name]Grey[/name] spelling. It seems more feminine.
