I am expecting our third child and we have inadvertedly set a trend that I think we may need to continue if this is our third girl. My husband and I love short names for our children. [name]Even[/name] before I was pregnant with my first my husband suggested Maïa for our first daugther. After her birth we discovered that the name Maïa was a greek godess. When I was pregnant with my second daugther I fell in love with the name [name]Zo[/name]é but my husband insisted that we add a second e to make [name]Zo[/name]ée. Two greek names, two four-letter names. [name]Do[/name] any of you can help me with other greek mythology four letter names?
[name]Cleo[/name]/ [name]Clea[/name] are one of the Muses
[name]Eris[/name] is a minor goddess, though is the one of Strife, so that might not be for you
[name]Echo[/name] is a name used for many figures in greek mythology,
[name]Hali[/name] is another, which also means the sea,
[name]Lyra[/name] is associated with the death of [name]Orpheus[/name],
[name]Rhea[/name] is the goddess of comfort and ease
[name]Thea[/name] is a titan goddess
[name]Hope[/name] this was what you were looking for.
Greek Goddesses:
[name]Iris[/name]
Iaso (e-ah-sho)
[name]Isis[/name] - it is Egyptian but this goddess was worshiped by the Greeks too
[name]Kore[/name] ([name]Kori[/name])
[name]Lina[/name] ([name]Lena[/name])
Mida
[name]Nike[/name]
Ossa
[name]Eris[/name]
[name]Rhea[/name]
[name]Hera[/name]
[name]Arae[/name]
Ersa
Enyo
Aesa
Other Greek 4-letter names you might like:
[name]Dido[/name]
[name]Hero[/name]
[name]Iona[/name]
Kuma (Kyma)
[name]Leda[/name]
Leto
[name]Lois[/name]
[name]Thea[/name]
[name]Zena[/name]
Wow what great and quick responses! Thanks. I really love Théa and Cléa. Now I just need to consult my hubby to see what he thinks.
I have another question: he really like Pénélope which is also greek in origin but not 4 letters. [name]Do[/name] you think our third daughter would feel her name was out of place with sisters Maïa and [name]Zo[/name]ée?
I have a [name]Maia[/name] too. [name]Penelope[/name] is fantastic and I don’t think the length matters at all. I like [name]Thea[/name] and [name]Cleo[/name] a lot. [name]Iris[/name] is also lovely.
Would you consider [name]Flora[/name] (a [name]Roman[/name] [name]Goddess[/name] rather than Greek one)?
I think that the name [name]Xanthe[/name] or [name]Ianthe[/name] would be a good fit with your daughters. I think it is better to choose the regular spelling and one letter more is not significant.
I Penelope is wonderful, and I don’t think she would feel too out of place. Though she most likely will receive a shorter nickname that would match the length of her sisters…
From the suggestions so far my favorites are…
Cleo/Clio
Echo
Iris
Hero
Eris
Leto
For me sound is a bigger factor than length, and all of these names meet your requirements for greek, four letter words but also have different sounding endings then Maia & Zoee
But if that doesn’t bother you so much I also really like…
Hali
Clea
Lyra
Iole
Ione
Some others you might consider that might not entirely meet requirements…
Selena
Xanthe
Irene (prn. eye-ree-nee)
Ianthe
Eos
Delia
Daphne
Briseis (bree-sees)
Ariadne
Aoide (eye-du)
Aella (prn. similar to Isla)
I absolutely love [name]Cleo[/name], [name]Thea[/name], [name]Echo[/name], and [name]Penelope[/name] with your daughters names [name]Maia[/name] and [name]Zoee[/name]!
Great names. I don’t think the number of letters matters too much…
