Griselda

What is you opinion on this name?

Sorry, but I think it has a gloomy sound.

I love it! My mom’s cousin is named [name_f]Griselle[/name_f] and we call her Grizzy.

I love the clunky Germanic feel. There are also cute nicknames [name_f]Selda[/name_f] and [name_f]Zelda[/name_f].

Sounds like a witch’s name

Reminds me of [name_f]Griselda[/name_f] [name_m]Blanco[/name_m], grisly, grizzly, gloom… Not at all positive. :frowning:

It’s beautiful and I hope to meet someone named this one day

I too think of [name_f]Griselda[/name_f] [name_m]Blanco[/name_m].

I prefer [name_f]Geraldine[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f], [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] even, but I still like it. I have a lovely association with it, this really sweet lady I’ve known for several years. I call her [name_f]Zelda[/name_f]. Many dislike, even loathe it, but I’m not one of them.

It sounds like a fairy tale villain’s name…which isn’t necessarily a bad thing!

It definitely feels like it belongs in a fairy tale (not necessarily a negative thing!). I think what middle you pick will really make or break this name but on its own I don’t mind it  [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a great nn for it [name_f]IMO[/name_f]

I have one of those in my family tree. It’s such an unusual name. I think it would make a great middle name, but I personally couldn’t get past the grisly sound to use it as a first name. I would just go with [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] for a first name.

I agree with the grisly sound really dominating. On a real person, I’d think it was unfortunate her parents didn’t opt for at least [name_f]Giselle[/name_f] or [name_f]Greta[/name_f], a little more feminine sounding and versatile. It’s definitely unique!

Use [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], it has a similar sound but [name_f]HAPPY[/name_f] and you can call her [name_f]Esme[/name_f].

[name_f]Grisell[/name_f] / Grizell is the Scottish variation, which I quite like. And yes, [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is a fabulous nn for it!

In the very few moments it took me to read all the posts, I went from eh it’s alright to I like it very much. It’s unusual and rare, yet recognizable. I do think the middle name needs to be a little lighter. I don’t get he villain impression but it is a little heavy. I do prefer [name_f]Giselda[/name_f] or [name_f]Griselda[/name_f], but over all I like.

“Gris” is the Norwegian word for pig, so this one I can’t get used to. I love names with the -ld- sound, but this one is too cartoon-fairytale-villain it honestly seems like something of a joke…

[name_f]Zelda[/name_f] is great though, and I love Everild / Everilda, [name_f]Esmeralda[/name_f], Casilda, [name_f]Clothilde[/name_f], [name_f]Isolde[/name_f], Quenilda, Rosilda, Somerilda, Sunilda, [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] / Hild, Alvilde and just [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]. I’d even prefer [name_f]Imelda[/name_f] over [name_f]Griselda[/name_f].

I personally like it. [name_f]Griselda[/name_f] has good nickname potential; it’s distinctive and unusual but easy to read/pronounce.

I’m french and my first association is the word “gris” which means grey. Too me it feels like a soft, calm but strong name.

It’s witchy in the best possible way, I really like it. I would use [name_f]Zelda[/name_f] as a nickname.

Sounds very dark and evil to me.

Sounds so evil to me, also reminds me of gristle. Please don’t use it. There are many alternatives; [name_f]Gabriella[/name_f]/[name_f]Gabrielle[/name_f], [name_f]Gloria[/name_f], [name_f]Giselle[/name_f], [name_f]Greta[/name_f]/[name_f]Margaret[/name_f] or even just [name_f]Zelda[/name_f].
