[name]Hi[/name] guys, new here (as in I’m pretty sure this is my second ever post on this board) but I love it anyway I just thought I’d get everyone’s opinions on the whole ‘h’ or no ‘h’ thing on the end of names, for example:
[name]Nora[/name] or [name]Norah[/name]
[name]Susanna[/name] or [name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] or [name]Lilah[/name] (with [name]Lila/name though I don’t mind either spelling)
personally I like the ‘h’ it sort of makes me feel like it’s softer in a weird way and that the name is finished, it’s also like the ‘ending in i names’ so I may as well throw that out here now not, i or y so you think?
[name]Wendy[/name] or [name]Wendi[/name]
[name]Kelly[/name] or [name]Kelli[/name]
[name]Macy[/name] or [name]Maci[/name]
which side to you fall on? i or y? h or no h? any exceptions to your view?
any other names you can think of following either or these trends?
(I can’t decide about [name]Nora[/name]/h. Technically I prefer the [name]Nora[/name] spelling, but on the other hand, I read a book about a girl called [name]Nora[/name] and hated it so I have bad associations with that spelling.)
[name]Susanna[/name]
[name]Lilah[/name]
"I"s where "Y"s should be look silly and dated to me, so I just prefer the original.
[name]Wendy[/name]
[name]Kelly[/name]
[name]Macy[/name] (but my favourite spelling is [name]Macey[/name])
I prefer the h on the end of the first set, but for some reason, I like [name]Lila[/name] better than [name]Lilah[/name]. I also would rather see y’s than replacing them with i’s, it’s too 80’s nicknamey to me. I could deal with [name]Maci[/name], though.
cool I agree with the i’s it always seems so odd to me, [name]Maci[/name] for me to is the exception I can see, the only one I can think of right now anyway
I love the name [name]Lila/name in both spellings but I definitely prefer [name]Norah[/name] and [name]Susannah[/name], it’s weird I guess that I don’t prefer the h ending when my own name ends in an a but I don’t think an h would work on the end of mine, I think it would change the pronunciation as my name is basically [name]Liz[/name] then an ‘a’ on the end… it’s sort of hard to explain pronunciation in text lol
I generally prefer to have the traditional “h” at the ending of most names (that warrant it).
[name]Norah[/name]
[name]Lilah[/name]
The exception would be [name]Susanna[/name]/h, which can go either way for me.
I’m extremely anti “i-for-a-y”, and for that matter any and every name that uses “y-for-an-i” (this one drives me absolutely mad). The one exception might be [name]Maci[/name], where both an “i” and a “y” are acceptable spellings.
I think it depends on the name for me! I like [name]Norah[/name] with the “H”, but [name]Susannah[/name] with the “H” feels heavier to me. I like the feel of [name]Susanna[/name] (or the Spanish [name]Susana[/name]). And [name]Lilah[/name] seems more trendy to me than the short-and-sweet (and simple) [name]Lila[/name]. As for the I/Y endings, always a Y for me! (With the exception of [name]Leni[/name], instead of [name]Lenny[/name], for a girl–but that wasn’t one of your options!) [name]Kelly[/name], [name]Macy[/name], and [name]Wendy[/name] all age much better to me than [name]Kelli[/name], [name]Maci[/name], and [name]Wendi[/name] do. The “I” endings give me a bit of a ditsy impression, sorry.
Depends on the name and its original spelling as well for me.
[name]Nora[/name] - the “h” seems overdone for this name.
[name]Susannah[/name] - This one is pretty close for me. I like the Biblical “h” spelling but also the European spelling [name]Susanna[/name].
[name]Lila[/name] - more vintage with no “h”. [name]Lilah[/name] just looks like the end of [name]Delilah[/name].
The original “y” endings are the best for [name]Wendy[/name], [name]Kelly[/name] and [name]Macy[/name]. I think the i’s look more cutesy and childish.
[name]Nora[/name] or [name]Norah[/name] - I like [name]Nora[/name]. The h is too much [name]IMO[/name].
[name]Susanna[/name] or [name]Susannah[/name] - I’m mixed on this one. I’m slightly leaning towards [name]Susannah[/name].
[name]Lila[/name] or [name]Lilah[/name] - I like [name]Lilah[/name]. Not sure why.
[name]Wendy[/name] or [name]Wendi[/name] - [name]Wendy[/name]
[name]Kelly[/name] or [name]Kelli[/name] - [name]Kelly[/name]
[name]Macy[/name] or [name]Maci[/name] - [name]Macy[/name]
The i makes them seem misspelled. Funny coming from a [name]Jenni[/name] I suppose. Though my reasoning for going by [name]Jenni[/name] is that “[name]Jenni[/name]” is in [name]Jennifer[/name], so why change the i to a y? I’m weird, I know
[name]Nora[/name]
[name]Susannah[/name]
[name]Lilah[/name] (my middle name is [name]Lyla[/name]. For some odd reason I think the h makes it look like [name]Lyla[/name] because [name]Lila[/name] sounds like [name]LEE[/name]-LA)
It depends on the name. I seem to like traditional H’s like [name]Susannah[/name] and [name]Sarah[/name]; but [name]Lila[/name] is better as [name]Lila[/name]. I happen to like [name]Norah[/name] over [name]Nora[/name] but I think the reason could be because I had a bad experience with a [name]Nola[/name], and the H on [name]Norah[/name] helps make it less similar. But I wouldn’t just add H’s haphazardly, as in Celiah or Lydiah. Yech. So I think that, for the most part, I like whatever ending is traditional – same with Y endings.
re h-- for me it depends on the origin of the name, historical spelling conventions, etc.
For [name]Susanna[/name], there is precedence and reason to go with or without h. I kind of like it with. If you are doing [name]Nora[/name] as the Irish name, I say no h. But if you mean the Hebrew name, that may be a different story.
Personally, I like ie over i or y, but y is very fine. [name]Don[/name]'t care for the more cute i ending.
I don’t seem to have a specific preference. I think [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Lila[/name] are lovely, but [name]Norah[/name] and [name]Lilah[/name] look overdone. On the other hand, [name]Sarah[/name] is beautiful and [name]Sara[/name] seems short and choppy. I like [name]Susannah[/name] better than [name]Susanna[/name], but think both are pretty. However I like [name]Savanna[/name] better than [name]Savannah[/name], while thinking both are pretty. Who knows why!?!?
I don’t like i’s on the end of names, as I think it looks super-cutesy. I have a crazy thing for the ‘ie’ ending though. [name]Macy[/name] and [name]Lacey[/name] are cute, but [name]Macie[/name] and [name]Lacie[/name] are cuter. My friends named [name]Stacie[/name] and [name]Kellie[/name] have the best spelling of that name. I once met an [name]Ashlie[/name] and thought that was adorable. It bothers me that I like it though, as I don’t think it fits with the rest of my usual naming patterns. An -ee ending, however, just seems trashy to me.
Although I prefer [name]Susanna[/name], [name]Susannah[/name] is okay with me. The final H is awful on [name]Nora[/name] and [name]Lilah[/name], imo, as superfluous and awkward as it would be on Aurorah, Bellah, or [name]Elizah[/name].
I generally don’t like names that sound like “ee” but end in I, so I’d pick the Y ending for [name]Kelly[/name], [name]Macy[/name], or [name]Wendy[/name] without hesitation.
