This is actually my 10 year old cousin’s name! Spelled [name]Hadrian[/name]. It fits him. And I like it. Obviously, I could never use it, but I would if I could. Probably as a mn though.

[name]Hadrian[/name] is the spelling. ‘HAY-dree-an’ is the pronunciation.
I love [name]Hadrian[/name], spelled as thus. I pronounce it the way [name]Ren[/name] said.
It’s pronounced the way everyone is suggesting! Hay-dree-an. Although, since we live in the south, we say it more like Hay-dree-un. 
I like it! I prefer [name]Hadrian[/name] over [name]Hadrien[/name], but they’re both nice.
I think I prefer [name]Adrian[/name], but Hadrian sounds handsome as well.

I much more prefer the spelling [name]Hadrian[/name] because of its historical context
This was on my husband’s list for our son – spelled [name]Hadrian[/name] and prn HAY-dree-in. He loves all things ancient [name]Rome[/name], so this was near the top of his list. I thought it was too heavy for a little boy to carry off, but that might just be because I was thinking about the history behind it. I would be very surprised to meet a little [name]Hadrian[/name], and I can’t decide whether I would like it or not. I’m sure I’ll find out at some point since these ancient names seem to be slowly trending up.
P.S. Ellieberry – are you British by chance? I’ve heard this said as HA-dree-in (sort of) in a British accent and it sounded quite lovely.
I think [name]Hadrian[/name] is great! I pronounce is like most of the people here have been describing and prefer is spelled with an ‘a’ in the penultimate position.

Yup, first syllable is “hay,” and [name]Hadrian[/name] is definitely the better spelling. I love it in theory, but I’m having a lot of trouble envisioning a modern-day child or even adult carrying the name…

Sorry – didn’t mean to say that you all say it wrong over there! The full story is that a British friend of mine was trying to pronounce this name and pronounced it with the short a sound before knowing how to say it correctly. But the takeaway was that the short a pronunciation sounded much better in a British accent than in my ugly American accent.

Be sure to look up the history of the historical [name]Hadrian[/name] and his wall before you name a baby this! That way you aren’t surprised when people are like, “Oh, like the wall.”
