Recently started to really love this name! It is maori meaning “admire” and pn [name]HY[/name]-ta-rah. [name]Do[/name] you think it would be usable? We would probably use the nn [name]Tara[/name]. Middle name will be [name]Dove[/name] so: Haetara [name]Dove[/name] [name]Ryan[/name]? [name]Sister[/name] is Amiria / [name]Amy[/name] (ah-MEEr-ee-ah). Our other favs at the moment are Mariama / [name]Mari[/name] (MAH-ree-ah-ma) and [name]Luciana[/name] / [name]Lucy[/name] (LOO-shah-nah/LOO-see-ah-nah). Thanks [name]Jess[/name]
[name]Hi[/name] [name]Jess[/name], oh, Haetara [name]Dove[/name] [name]Ryan[/name] is beautiful and I think it’s lovely with Amiria. It looks and sounds great! After all of your efforts, I think you may have a winner! Second choice would be [name]Luciana[/name]. All the best, [name]Mischa[/name].
Please don’t. It’s too close to “hetaera” which means prostitute or courtesan in ancient Greek. She’ll come across the term in history classes and cringe. Hetaira - Wikipedia What about simply naming her [name]Tara[/name]?
Haetara [name]Dove[/name] is very pretty. If you like the nn [name]Tara[/name], you might consider;
Kitara
Taralyn
Thankyou! I’m glad you don’t think it’s too odd!! To be honest the link to a word in ancient greek doesn’t really bother me. I think you could probably find links to less than ideal meanings with all names if you delve into enough ancient/dead etc. languages! Thanks for pointing it out though.
To further explain our naming aims: I like very simple names but my hub is a fan of very elaborate ones with lots of syllables and a’s! - we solved this problem last time by using a frilly maori name with a fairly intuitive “normal” nickname. A Maori connection would be a bonus but isn’t necessary.
So our list:
Amiria and Haetara ([name]Amy[/name] and [name]Tara[/name])
Amiria and Mariama ([name]Amy[/name] and [name]Mari[/name])
Amiria and [name]Luciana[/name] ([name]Amy[/name] and [name]Lucy[/name])
Thanks! [name]Jess[/name]
I do like Haetara! Although, when I first saw it, I was sure it was said “Hay-TAHR-uh.” So the only problem might be pronunciation. But it does sound great with Amiria!
Haetara [name]Dove[/name] is lovely.
Maybe it is just my accent but when I say Haetara [name]Ryan[/name] together my tongue almost trips over the ‘r’ sounds so close to each other.
Also Mariama and your daughters name Amiria sound really close together so it may get confusing after saying them together for an extended period of time.
I do love [name]Luciana[/name] and think it is a very sweet name.
If you love Haetara and don’t mind the double ‘r’ sound then it is a rather sweet name. Congrats on the new baby.
I really like it although I do see where the people pointing out pronunciation and accent problems are coming from. The rolled R in Maori can get lost in translation, more so than other languages that roll their Rs because Maori is so unknown! When you say it with the rolled R it sounds fabulous and totally different to the R in [name]Ryan[/name], but if you say it with a normal R sound it’s a bit of a tongue twister…
Now that I see the correct pronounciation I think it’s lovely. But when I first read it it almost looked like “hater.” Assuming you live in an area where people will pronounce it correctly I think it’s great. And [name]Tara[/name] is a lovely nickname.
What about Tarati (prn [name]Tah[/name]-rah-tee) or Tariana ([name]Tah[/name]-ree-ahna)?
