My newest name crush is [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] which I most likely started liking because it’s the name of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Gouldings album and she is my favourite singer. I would most likely use it as a middle name as I find it way to uncommon to use.
Is [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] too [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Goulding to use or is it a connection not many people would see?
My favourite combination at the moment is [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u]. I can’t use that can I?
I wouldn’t have made the [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Goulding connection with [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] alone OR with the combo [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u]. Now if you wanted to go for [name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Goldie[/name_f], that might raise some suspicions but still that would only be among certain folk.
I love the meaning behind [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] and think it’d be a bold first name choice, using it as a middle name is less so. To me middle names get to be what you want or need them to be without as much risk – whether it’s choosing something a little out there or trying to honor your grandma whose name you don’t particularly like.
Most people will know her as [name_f]Elena[/name_f].
So I say go for it. Maybe play around with some other combos but if that’s what you love, then yes.
I certainly wouldn’t let an album name put me off a baby name. In the case of [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u], a more pressing pop culture association would be of the pharmaceutical variety here in [name_u]America[/name_u] as it was widely abused in the '80s. It’s also part of a cliché phrase “The [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] days of [insert something you’re nostalgic about]”.
One of my childhood best friends had a grandmother of that name and I always thought it was beautiful. She was called nn Halcie, which is also great.
I love [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u], it’s on my guilty pleasure list! I do think of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Goulding, but I like her and I don’t think it’s a bad thing. I mean, don’t get me wrong, the album is amazing, but not amazing enough for it’s title to be remembered forever. Some people might see the connection now, but I doubt anyone will notice it in a few years.
Halcion (pronounced the same) was a brand name for the drug Triazolam. It was given for insomnia and highly abused. It is still on the market but seldom given due to the high risk of side effects esp. memory loss.
I wouldn’t name a child Halcion/[name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] any more than I would name them Heroin.
My mind goes straight to the myth (Alcyone and Ceyx - Wikipedia) which is the origin of the phrase, “[name_u]Halcyon[/name_u] days”. [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u]'s original name was [name_f]Alcyone[/name_f], which could be a subtle change to lessen the [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Goulding connection (even if you want to call [name_f]Alcyone[/name_f], “[name_u]Allie[/name_u]”).
I absolutely love the name [name_u]Halcyon[/name_u]! I am a massive [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] Goulding fan too and that is a great connection, in my opinion, but I also love the story behind it. It has such a pretty sound and is unique and has loads of nickname combinations, a darling of a name!
