[name]Hamilton[/name] was my maiden name. As a first name, would it be useable or sound too lofty? What nicknames can you think of for [name]Hamilton[/name]? My last name is one syllable so it would work nicely. I’m not pregnant so not seriously thinking. Thanks!
I actually know a guy named [name]Hamilton[/name] who goes by [name]Ham[/name]! It’s kind of funny, but it suits him. I would advise using [name]Hamilton[/name] as a middle name, because you never know… ‘[name]Ham[/name]’ could have teasing potential. Other suggestions: [name]Harrison[/name], [name]Jefferson[/name], [name]Kennedy[/name], [name]Matthew[/name], [name]Sebastian[/name], [name]Donovan[/name], [name]Desmond[/name], [name]Dalton[/name], [name]Warner[/name], etc.?
I actually like it quite a bit. The “ham” part frightens me a bit for those school years. I suppose nn’s [name]Milt[/name] or [name]Tony[/name] could work
It’s not awful, but it does sound a teensy bit pretentious to me (although I love family names). The natural nn [name]Ham[/name] is a big deterrent as well. I would feel very sorry for a young [name]Hamilton[/name] who was even a bit overweight.
[name]Hamilton[/name] is a family name for me, and I adore it as a middle name. I find it so distinguished and handsome. Since [name]Hamilton[/name] is your maiden name, I like it even more for you. It’s certainly usable and not any more pretentious than [name]Sebastian[/name] or [name]Augustus[/name], both of which are embraced on Nameberry.
My great-grandparents skipped the -ton for my grand-uncle and named him [name]Hamil[/name]. That’s the only nickname from the name that I can think of other than [name]Ham[/name]. Why would you want to call your child [name]Ham[/name]? Personally, I don’t think nicknames have to be related to the name at all. If you want to name your son [name]Hamilton[/name] and call him [name]Bobby[/name], go right ahead. If you’re one of those OCD nicknamers though, I would put [name]Hamilton[/name] in the middle spot and look elsewhere for his first name.
I like [name]Hamilton[/name], especially if it has a strong family connection for you. [name]Ham[/name] might be a bit tricky/unavoidable as a nn, though.
Though I’ve never met a [name]Hamilton[/name] in real life, the first one to spring to mind is gawker journalist [name]Hamilton[/name] [name]Nolan[/name].
I grew up with a [name]Hamilton[/name]. I think he was somewhat tormented, but I’m not sure it was his name only.
I prefer just plain old [name]Milton[/name] personally. I live in [name]Ontario[/name] and we have a city named [name]Hamilton[/name] so it doesn’t seem like a great first name to me. Also, I know a few people with the surname [name]Hamilton[/name] and I just can’t wrap my mind around it as a first name.
[name]Hamilton[/name] works! I know a guy named [name]Hamilton[/name]; he has a brother in my year named [name]Harrison[/name]. I think it’s a great name!
What is wrong with the nn of [name]Ham[/name]? It is close to [name]Bram[/name] and everyone swoons when they hear [name]Bram[/name].
Thumbs up for [name]Hamilton[/name] but I do love [name]James[/name] [name]Hamilton[/name] as a combo a lot too.
