What do you think of Hans, Franz and Uve? I’m usually not big into German names but I am going to Germany soon so trying to get interested in German names. As far as these three names, I’m mixed on them.
Hans is very handsome. I would like it as a nickname for Johann but not as a stand alone. However it feels slightly stereotypical.
Franz is handsome and strong, and I like it better than Frank. However I associate it with the slain Archduke of Serbia Franz Ferdinand.
Uwe I sort of dislike for the look and pronunciation (pronounced like the Spanish word for grape) but it may grow on me.
What do you think of them? Which one is your favorite? Which is your least favorite?
All of them are sort of outdated in Germany itself as well as the USA, where Germanic names have been common. However, I can see Hans having a revival. Not as sure about the other ones. What do you think of this?
Edit: my bad, Uve was meant to be Uwe. German and Polish confuse me with w pronounced V
[name_m]Hans[/name_m] reminds me of [name_m]Hans[/name_m] from Frozen, and I think that’s a much more currently known association than [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m] (although that was my first thought).
I’m also not a huge fan of Uve, it just doesn’t appeal to me sound, or appearance wise.
Overall I’m pretty neutral between [name_m]Hans[/name_m] and [name_m]Franz[/name_m].

I really like [name_m]Hans[/name_m], despite the frozen association, and can definitely see a revival, but for me [name_m]Franz[/name_m] feels a bit outdated- [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m], [name_m]Franz[/name_m] [name_m]Joseph[/name_m]. (although i do like the way it sounds) i’ve never heard of Uve before (i’m half German), but i just can’t see it working. My favourite [name_m]German[/name_m] names are [name_m]Kamil[/name_m], [name_m]Jakob[/name_m], [name_m]Mads[/name_m] and [name_m]Manuel[/name_m]

These are all fine, but feel rather stereotypical older [name_m]German[/name_m] to me? I like the full [name_m]Johannes[/name_m] much more than just [name_m]Hans[/name_m], and Uve reminds me of the word for grape too (basically the same in Portuguese, which I’m learning). [name_m]Franz[/name_m] is so heavily associated with [name_m]Ferdinand[/name_m].
Some of my favorites include [name_m]Benedikt[/name_m], [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Helmut[/name_m], [name_m]Andreas[/name_m], [name_m]Kasper[/name_m], [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], [name_m]Timo[/name_m], [name_m]Thilo[/name_m], [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], [name_m]Maximilian[/name_m], [name_m]Florian[/name_m], [name_m]Julian[/name_m], etc.—not all have [name_m]German[/name_m] origins, but either they were or are now well used in [name_m]Germany[/name_m]. [name_m]Leon[/name_m], [name_m]Jonas[/name_m], and [name_m]Timo[/name_m] especially feel [name_m]German[/name_m] to me right now.
[name_m]Benedikt[/name_m] might be my favorite, but I’m partial to it because of a character in a half-baked novel of mine—he’s one of the most wholesome and lovely characters, and he’s truly made me love his name.

i love [name_m]Timo[/name_m]! most [name_m]German[/name_m] names feel so nostalgic, as they remind me of footballers from the 2018 world cup team that i was obsessed with haha (Manuel Neuer, [name_m]Timo[/name_m] [name_m]Werner[/name_m])

1st [name_m]Hans[/name_m]
2nd [name_m]Franz[/name_m]
3rd Uve
With the same opinions as the others overall.
Met a [name_m]German[/name_m] exchange kid named [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] when I was younger, so, that’s my favorite [name_m]German[/name_m] name. [name_m]Franz[/name_m] and Uve do feel too old. [name_m]Hans[/name_m] does give Frozen, but, I wouldn’t scrunch my nose hearing [name_m]Hans[/name_m]. I do like the name overall.
