I have an English assignment due about fairy tales. In fact, i have to re-write “[name]Hansel[/name] and [name]Gretel[/name]” as a modern version, and have a moral, blah blah blah blah.
But i don’t want to use the same names in [name]Hansel[/name] and [name]Gretel[/name].Also In my version of the story, [name]Hansel[/name] and [name]Gretel[/name] are friends, not siblings.
So i need a name for:
[name]Hansel[/name]:
[name]Gretel[/name]:
Witch/Crazy lady:(I’m thinking about using [name]Melody[/name])
Strange Au Pair/ stepmother:
Well [name]Hansel[/name] is a version of [name]John[/name] so you have [name]John[/name], [name]Jonny[/name], jack, [name]Ivan[/name], [name]Johan[/name], evan, [name]Ewan[/name], [name]Gian[/name] and all the other international versions, see here: Behind the Name: Meaning, Origin and History of the Name John
[name]Gretal[/name] is related to [name]Margaret[/name] (according to behind the name) giving you [name]Margot[/name], [name]Maisie[/name], [name]Mae[/name], [name]Daisy[/name], pearl, [name]Greta[/name], [name]Gretchen[/name], [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Rita[/name], [name]Mared[/name] etc see here Behind the Name: Meaning, Origin and History of the Name Grete
I like the name [name]Melody[/name] so don’t wanna see it used on a crazy person!! But that’s me being biased.
Witches is Slavic Origen are often given the tital [name]Baba[/name], [name]Baba[/name] Yaga etc so
[name]Barbara[/name], [name]Babette[/name], etc could work.
Crone is the English term for witch. So swapping around a bit you have [name]Corine[/name], [name]Cornelia[/name].
Then there’s the lolly spin: [name]Lolly[/name], Dulsie (sweet), [name]Melissa[/name] (honey), [name]Candy[/name]…
The step mother I think names that are a little formal and aloof:
[name]Lavinia[/name], [name]Vivienne[/name], [name]Magnolia[/name], prudence,
[name]Alexandria[/name], [name]Diana[/name]…
