Happy International Women's Day

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] Berries!

In honour of International Women’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] today I thought it would be a nice idea to start a thread where everyone includes the name of a woman who’s inspired them. It could be anyone you want, famous or a relative, friend or even a stranger you’ve had a brief encounter with once. It would be wonderful if you were open to sharing a story pertaining to that person but also alright if you just simply want to share their name. I want this thread to be open for everyone to comment, regardless of gender. Let’s celebrate women today and always.

I want to share the name [name_f]Georgette[/name_f], the name of my Mother. There are so many women I’d like to honour in this post but my Mother to me, is a million women in one. I am so proud to know her and to have had grown up with her guidance and love. She has shown me what it is truly like to be a woman and person.

What a lovely idea! :heartbeat:

I’ll go with [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], my wonderful grandma who died a few years ago. She was small but mighty!

Honourable mentions to [name_f]Patricia[/name_f] “[name_f]Trish[/name_f]”, [name_f]Carol[/name_f] and [name_f]Joanne[/name_f], amazing teachers and/or role models of mine who have really encouraged and inspired me.

Happy International Women’s [name_u]Day[/name_u] :muscle:

I agree that this is a fab idea for a thread! I can’t pick between these 5, because their role to me is the same, so I’m listing all 5 of them. I hope that’s okay!

Using characters to protect them, since they’re still little ones and I want the very best for them. They’re all the little girls I sponsor in [name_u]Peru[/name_u] and [name_u]Brazil[/name_u] (I have one little boy too), and on this International Women’s [name_u]Day[/name_u], I am wishing them the very brightest, happiest, and hopeful futures, despite the poverty they’re surrounded by and the obstacles set about them on every side. They are so full of love, joy, hope, and determination, and have made my life better a million times over, so here’s to them, my 5 darling princesinhas, my inspiration, my hope, and my love.

ETA: honorable mentions go to [name_f]Karen[/name_f], [name_f]Arlene[/name_f], [name_f]Ruth[/name_f], and T0n!@, mom, grandmas, and literature/grammar teacher, respectively, who have all molded me in the best ways all my life.

Thanks for posting this. It’s a great idea for a thread.

The most important women in my life have been my mother, [name_f]Lori[/name_f] and my grandmother, [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. They are the most loving, most enduring, most incredible women and I often feel like I’ll never live up to be their legacy.

For famous people, let’s hear it for the amazing [name_f]Octavia[/name_f] [name_m]Butler[/name_m], who just had a piece of the moon named after her! Also for [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] Allende, one of my favorite writers.

Rose-[name_f]May[/name_f] = A dear family member who’s been through a lot and seen through a lot, she’s come out stronger each time.
Elizabeth = [name_f]My[/name_f] great-grandmother who raised five children mostly on her own back in the days before most women could even get a credit card.
Paige = A friend who really stepped up after her family fractured, advocates for equal rights, and strives to be a woman in business.
Eleanor = The name of [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_m]Roosevelt[/name_m], a strong, inspiring first lady who fought for what was right and advocated for many.
Victoria = A family friend with a heart of gold who always makes sure to check up on my grandmother, devout and a loving mother.

My mother, [name_f]Beth[/name_f] [name_u]Anne[/name_u]! Always wanted to use the name [name_f]Annabeth[/name_f] to honor her, but we have too many [name_f]Anna[/name_f] names in the family.

what an incredible idea!! Thank you so much for this

I’m going to go with [name_u]Sascha[/name_u] and [name_u]Or[/name_u], the names of two amazing and inspiring women in my life. As for a celebrity, how about [name_f]Rochel[/name_f] (the Yiddish form of [name_f]Rachel[/name_f]) after [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] [name_u]Carson[/name_u] (conservationist and author of Silent [name_f]Spring[/name_f].)

This is one of my favorite books, and I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants to learn more about powerful women in history!

I’m really feeling [name_f]Coretta[/name_f] today, after [name_f]Coretta[/name_f] [name_u]Scott[/name_u] [name_m]King[/name_m]. She was an activist for so many important things, and seemed like an all around good person.

Lovely idea!

I’ll go w/my mom, [name_f]Marilee[/name_f]. She wasn’t a perfect parent, but the older I get the more grateful I am for the parent that she was. Stable, caring, thoughtful & did a great job having fun w/my sister & I. Plus, she has an interesting name!

Bellona.

This was my great-great-grandmother’s surname before she married. She was a strong, stern and hardworking [name_u]Southern[/name_u] Italian woman and ran her farm together with her husband. I’ve always thought the war goddess association was perfect for her, based on the stories I’ve heard and in the best ways possible.

Some honorable mentions: [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_u]Maria[/name_u], [name_f]Kassiani[/name_f], [name_f]Henriette[/name_f], [name_f]Cesaria[/name_f], [name_f]Fatima[/name_f].

I would have to go with [name_f]Araminta[/name_f], the lovely (if not underrated) birth name of [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] Tubman.

I have to go with [name_f]Christine[/name_f]! Not only is it the name of my mother, who raised me all by herself, it’s also the name of one of my best friends (@acajou). I love both of these Christines with all my heart. It’s easily one of my favorite names thanks to them.

My dad left my mom a week before their wedding. I was a newborn baby. [name_f]My[/name_f] mum never went to university, so she had no qualifications. We moved to [name_u]New[/name_u] Zealand with my grandma, and my mom started a graphic design business. She worked so hard, day in, day out, well into the night, and she was up first thing in the morning, before dawn. We were on the benefit so we received money from the government to help us pay for things. She built her company, and she built it well. When I was 4, she got us a small, very cheap house in an average area. We stayed there for a couple of years. Then we moved again and were in and out of about 20 different rentals over the span of 4 or 5 years. I got very sick when I was 10 and was in the hospital for about half a year. I was an incredibly difficult and sickly child, but she took such wonderful care of me. When I was a bit older, she got cancer. She sold her business and started working for an amazing company, and on her own, got us an amazing house in the best area of the city, which is where I still live now, and as I said - she did it all on her own. She fought cancer like a champion and survived. She is my absolute hero and she has been the absolute best mother I could possibly ask for. I love her so, so much.

This is a beautiful idea! The name that immediately came to me is [name_f]Marsha[/name_f], which belongs to none other than [name_f]Marsha[/name_f] P. [name_m]Johnson[/name_m], an incredible trans woman of color who was a leader in the time of the early [name_u]Gay[/name_u] Rights Movement! I remember learning about her, knowing that she risked her life so that trans youth would have the chance of a safer future. Because of her, and women like her, I’m able to be who I am today. She’s just another incredible queer elder who fought for me, and that’s why the name means a lot to me! (It even appears in my own name!)

Happy International Women’s [name_u]Day[/name_u], berries!
