What names do you perceive as looking and sounding “happy”? I’ve been thinking about it a lot, how much I want happiness for my baby and for her birth to be a happy event, with her daddy’s death being so recent.
I love [name_u]Robin[/name_u], [name_u]Bernie[/name_u] and [name_f]Celia[/name_f]'s names, but although they are names I love very much they convey other sentiments like comfort, coziness, the outdoors than than happiness itself. [name_f]Do[/name_f] I make sense?
That is a very interesting concept! I’m not sure if I’m quite down the right line here, but to me happy names and spunky names are very closely related. [name_u]Bright[/name_u] names that sound joyful and bouncy and make you want to smile.
My first thought was [name_f]Daisy[/name_f]. This name always has that spunky feel to me. A beautiful, sometime wild, well known and loved flower, it has a cute, happy feel and look to it.
[name_f]Marigold[/name_f]- the round, cheerful, bright flower is such a happy flower. This name sounds happy and full of life. The [name_f]Mari[/name_f]- part grounds the name and gives it a solid feel, while the -gold gives it more of a fairytale and beautiful ending. [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] would be such a cute nickname.
[name_f]Bonnie[/name_f]- [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f] literally means beautiful/cheerful, I never had realized that til now. But it’s always had that spunky, fun loving and happy feel to me. It’s such a friendly, relaxed name.
[name_f]Joy[/name_f]- This one the meaning is quite obvious :). [name_m]How[/name_m] could there be a happier name!
Most of my “happy” names have already been listed: [name_f]Susanna[/name_f], [name_f]Bonnie[/name_f], [name_f]Marigold[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Clementine[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f], [name_f]Mollie[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]…
There’s just something about the letters A, C, E and L and an -ie or -y ending (but on traditional or floral names, not so much contemporary names) that say “bright” and “happy” to me. And of course, names that mean “bright” or make me think of flowers or sunny colors (a la [name_f]Clementine[/name_f]).
I agree with a lot of the previous names listed (particularly [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]). I agree that the “y” ending has a cheerful sound.
Anyway, [name_u]Hillary[/name_u] literally means happy/cheerful! It’s my name so I had to suggest it :). It doesn’t get much love on these forums, but I’ve always gotten compliments on it. If you want to avoid the political association, the beautiful Italian version is [name_f]Ilaria[/name_f]. Both come from the same root as “hilarious!”
Sorry to post twice, but I just had another thought. When I think of my favorite names, the happiest/warmest sounding one to me is [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]. It kind of makes you smile to say it! Good luck on the search :).
I thought of [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Iris[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], [name_f]Pippa[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f], [name_u]Georgie[/name_u], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Lola[/name_f], [name_f]Natalie[/name_f] and [name_f]Alicia[/name_f]. Sorry, I honestly don’t know why, but they are the names that popped into my head!
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Felicia[/name_f], and [name_f]Felia[/name_f] are all names that come to mind. Probably because they actually mean happy I’m pretty sure! But other than that, I just saw [name_u]Cloud[/name_u] on another thread and that just seems like the happiest name.
Sorry about your husband. I’ll help you the best I can.

My first thought was [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]! Nickname [name_f]Meri[/name_f], [name_f]Merri[/name_f], or [name_f]Merry[/name_f]. Super pretty (classic but with spunk), fits well with your other children, and is quite joyful. (I also love Leah!)
Lots of other fantastic suggestions, though. Good luck!
But I also think some of the longer, British-chic names sound happy. For example, [name_f]Clementine[/name_f] and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] sound whimsical to me.
I always wanted my girls’ names to have an element of happiness but also more of an artsy, soulful feeling.
I like [name_f]Julia[/name_f] from your signature. [name_f]Julia[/name_f] sounds very bouncy and happy to me. It is also the name of someone special to me so that make me think happy thoughts. I also really like [name_f]Opal[/name_f] because it reminds me of my partner. I like nature names or sunny names as that makes me happy.
Names I associate with happiness usually come from memories or people I already know so I think you should look at things that make you happy personally.
Some “[name_f]Happy[/name_f]” names that came to my mind are…
[name_f]Arabella[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Isabella[/name_f]
[name_f]Lila[/name_f]
[name_f]Tallulah[/name_f]
[name_f]Willa[/name_f]
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Lily[/name_f]
