[name]Hi[/name] everyone! I posted in another forum that my husband loves the name [name]Harley[/name] for a little girl. I [name]have[/name] more classic taste and therefore have a lot of reservations about the name.
As a compromise I mentioned the name [name]Harlan[/name] for a boy. My husband really likes it. However, the nameberry description says, " a pleasant but uninspired surname choice."
So I just wanted everyone’s opinion on the name. And also, what would be a good strong masculine name to pair it with for a middle? We tend to like softer first names with more masculine middles : our son is [name]Evan[/name] [name]Alexzander[/name].
[name]Hi[/name], I had to reply to this because I [name]LOVE[/name] this name. It was my great-grandfathers name and he was a very handsome and interesting man. I have a picture of him from the late 1800’s as a young man on a boat with a monkey on his shoulder if that gives you an idea of him. I wanted to use this name, but our last name is almost identical to the name [name]Harlan[/name]. It sounds so similar it was just too much. But, I just wanted to say that I really like it.
Yay! I’m so glad you like it! Your grandfather sounds great! A monkey?? [name]How[/name] fun. I bet he had all sorts of great stories Its too bad that the name clashes with your last name
I really like the name. I was worried people would find it too girly because of the “har” beginning. Especially now that names like [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] are so well liked for girls.
I like [name]Harlan[/name]. I think it sounds like the name of a southern gentleman. I wouldn’t use it though since you already have an [name]Evan[/name]. They sound too similar.
When I think of [name]Harlan[/name] I think of the tv show Justified on FX. It is a county/town in [name]KY[/name] where the show takes place, but that hasn’t made me like the name any less!
Out of your middle names I like [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Everett[/name] the best. I think [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Rhett[/name] could be nice too and [name]Harlan[/name] [name]James[/name] also comes to mind for some reason.
I love [name]Harlan[/name]! It feels very old-school and manly to me, in spite of the current Har- trend for girls. [name]Love[/name] [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Frederick[/name] and [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Everett[/name]! Great pairings!

[name]Harlan[/name] and [name]Evan[/name] share the same -an ending so my only caution is to make sure saying their names together isn’t a tongue-twister for you.
Agreed-- [name]Harlan[/name] is a handsome, very masculine name. Would you believe that I know someone named [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Everett[/name]? I used to have a tremendous crush on him. He goes by [name]Hank[/name].
I really like the name [name]Harlan[/name]. I have a negative association from a person I know with the name, but that is my only dislike for it. It kind of sounds like Harlequin but not really. I also like [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Everett[/name] (love [name]Everett[/name] but my DH does not sadly). I don’t care for [name]Augustine[/name] as mn because to me it doesn’t sound masculine together.
One of our three cats names is named [name]Harlen[/name] and he’s very mischievous but its cute on him cause he’s only a little thing so I kind of have a bias toward the name. I love [name]Harlan[/name] [name]Everett[/name] though!
I definitely don’t think it sounds girly, but it makes me think of [name]Harlem[/name] (don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing for an American). I also think it’s a little too matchy with [name]Evan[/name].
