Harlow

Is it too celebrity now? I think it’s such a strong name. Also love [name]Harper[/name].

I too think [name]Harlow[/name] is beautiful… but it does SCREAM [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name] to me. The good thing is, that I don’t think in 5 years we will really remember [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Richie[/name] and her daughter [name]Harlow[/name] because there will be a host of new celebrities having babies. I think if you love it use it!

Thanks to [name]Margot[/name] Asquith, I will always associate the name “[name]Harlow[/name]” with “harlot.”

There is an old story that when American actress [name]Jean[/name] [name]Harlow[/name] was introduced to Lady Asquith, [name]Harlow[/name] kept mispronouncing Lady Asquith’s given name as “[name]Mar[/name]-GOT” instead of “[name]Mar[/name]-GO.”

Finally, Lady Asquith had had enough, and gently corrected [name]Harlow[/name] by saying: “No, dear. The t is silent. As in [name]Harlow[/name].”

[name]Hi[/name] there, I think [name]Harlow[/name] is a lovely name steeped in glamour. It has connotations of the classic Hollywood era. I am considering a similar name for my daughter. The name I have as a current favourite is Harlean inspired by [name]Jean[/name] [name]Harlow[/name]'s real name (Harlean Carpenter). Good luck!

To me, [name]Harlow[/name] is the name of a town in [name]Essex[/name] here in [name]England[/name], a town that has above average unemployment and doesn’t have a great reputation.

For that reason alone, it will never make a good first name for me, sorry.

Personally [name]Harlow[/name] says three things:

  1. I love [name]Nicole[/name] [name]Ritchie[/name]
  2. It’s a not so great town in [name]England[/name]. Would you name your son [name]Harlem[/name]?
  3. [name]Harlow[/name] sound almost exactly the same as Harlot in my accent. And try as I might I can’t separate the two in my mind. Probably because there is only a one letter difference between [name]Harlow[/name] and Harlot.
  4. (I lied): [name]Jean[/name] is so, so, so much prettier.

I love this name! This is what my husband and I picked for our daughter (which is coming any day now!). I really dont care what others think (in regards to celebrities using this name first!). I say if you love it, then use it!!
It is better than using a name that is so common that the poor kid will have to use its last name initial through school… exampe [name]Isabell[/name] and [name]Addison[/name].
We are still debating middles names, so far the top runner is [name]Harlow[/name] [name]Love[/name]!!
Good luck!

[name]Just[/name] wanted to bump this up to get more opinions. It’s a top runner for us…

I personally love [name]Harlow[/name], but I think [name]Harper[/name] is cuter. It seems like everyone I know is wanting to use [name]Harlow[/name] at the moment. I say go for it if you love it.

I do love [name]Harper[/name] too, but the way it’s flying up the charts makes me nervous. I suppose [name]Harlow[/name] could be doing the same thing…

  1. Yes it is very celebrity
  2. Have you seen all the [name]Jean[/name] [name]Harlow[/name] movies? Because I think a lot people just associate Hollywood glamour with the name without actually knowing what they’re talking about. Personally, I wouldn’t name my child something with such a well-known namesake unless I felt a connection to that person.
  3. What about [name]Margot[/name]?

Honestly, it sounds to much like Harlot for me. I just dont see the appeal in this name. No offense.

I like the sound of [name]Harlow[/name], but like fay said [name]Jean[/name] [name]Harlow[/name] was beautiful but that was about it.

A old Hollywood name that I [name]LOVE[/name] that you might like is [name]Garbo[/name]. [name]Greta[/name] [name]Garbo[/name] was an amazing actress, so classy, and absolutely fascinating. She was just all in all an amazing woman, who I would want my daughter to aspire to be like. I can’t use this name for a variety of reasons, but I hope people wise up to this great and (in my opinion) inspired name.

[name]Harper[/name] is also really charming for a little girl, but maybe a tad too unisex for my taste.

Good luck!

I noticed that you like both [name]Harlow[/name] and [name]Harper[/name] but seem to be worried that both are too popular or too celebrity-ish. Why not look around for some Har- options

[name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Hartley[/name]
[name]Harmony[/name]
[name]Harmonia[/name]
[name]Harlem[/name] (I know someone suggested this jokingly but I think it’s a great name - just think of all the luninaries associated with the [name]Harlem[/name] Renaissance!)

Or the similar:
[name]Hermia[/name]
[name]Hermione[/name]
[name]Hera[/name]
[name]Hero[/name]

Personally, I prefer [name]Harper[/name] to [name]Harlow[/name] just because I think [name]Harper[/name] [name]Lee[/name] is a more admirable personage than [name]Jean[/name] [name]Harlow[/name]. But if you really love a name then you should just go for it.
