Harry as a nickname for Richard?

The name [name]Richard[/name] is oddly enough, growing on me.
I like [name]Rick[/name], [name]Ricky[/name] so far, but then I thought of [name]Harry[/name]. Workable or no?

Oooo that’s a pretty out-there link if you ask me!

I have a [name]Harry[/name] and I would never see it linked with [name]Richard[/name].

I do have a soft spot for [name]Richard[/name] though. I used to have a very sexy tennis coach for years who’s name was [name]Richard[/name]. But he went by [name]Richie[/name]. Suited him…

I dont know but people would think his name is short for [name]Harold[/name]. I think you should stick with [name]Ricky[/name] or [name]Richie[/name]. Its a really cute nickname though!!

I love [name]Richard[/name] At first I thought ‘[name]Harry[/name]? Not really’ but then realised my favourite NNs for [name]Richard[/name] are Hick/Hicca. So if I can get that from it, [name]Harry[/name] isn’t much more of a stretch

i like it! never wouldve thought of it, but with the -har- in the middle its totally usable. i know a He n ry who goes only by Ha nk and a J ane Wi nc hest er who goes by C hess ie so if those can work so can harry!

Hey, what about good old fashioned [name]Dick[/name]?

Sure, you can get [name]Harry[/name] from [name]Richard[/name]. I wouldn’t, but the har is in there. It’s just as plausible as getting [name]Harry[/name] from [name]Henry[/name] (or almost).

I think it’s a bit too much of a stretch. To me, it makes me think of the nickname [name]Dick[/name] and then hairy… :-/

Can I be honest?
My boyfriend likes it because he can say “You’re being a little dick right now.” when he acts out. eyeroll
Men.
I probably won’t ever actually use [name]Richard[/name] partially for that reason, but I do like the name.

I love the name [name]Richard[/name] and want to use it to honor my grandfather. He goes by [name]Dick[/name], I hate it. My uncle goes by [name]Rick[/name]; I hate that, too. [name]Don[/name]'t get me started on [name]Rich[/name]/[name]Richie[/name].

If I could find a good nickname for [name]Richard[/name], I would totally use it. I like [name]Harry[/name], but I see it more as a nickname for [name]Henry[/name].

Could [name]Hardy[/name] work for you? I don’t know how I feel about it, but it’s definitely there.

No. People who know him by his nickname, as [name]Harry[/name], will assume his name is [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Harold[/name]. WHen yo usay, it’s [name]Richard[/name]. They’ll ask if his mn is [name]Henry[/name] or [name]Harold[/name]. If you want to call him [name]Harry[/name], why not just name him [name]Harry[/name]. If you want to name him [name]Richard[/name], his nickname should grow organically from that: [name]Rick[/name], [name]Rich[/name], [name]Dick[/name], Kiddo, JellyBean, whatever.

If ou want to honor your grandfather (and mine was named [name]Dick[/name] too), why not put [name]Richard[/name] in the middle?

My father’s name is [name]Richard[/name], so I’ve thought about this name a lot. What do you guys think about the nn [name]Char[/name]? It reminds me of the prince charming in the [name]Ella[/name] Enchanted book.

Your boyfriend sounds awesome!

I don’t see why not, the -har-'s in the name. Sure, it’s out there, and sure, people might get a bit confused by it but it’s definitely plausible.
