Harry Potter name?

Hey there!

So, Fiance and I are having our first little munchkin in [name_f]October[/name_f] and we’re huge [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fans (which is really neat because baby is due near Halloween).

We know it’s super early but we’re having fun thinking of names for this baby (we don’t know the sex and probably won’t find out until birth). Since we’re such huge [name_m]Harry[/name_m] potter fans, we thought it would be neat to name the baby something vintage and/or whimsical.

Can you help us think of some cute vintage/Whimsical/unique names that you think would sound like a student at Hogwarts? Please no actual character names from the books/movies. [name_m]Just[/name_m] some fun or cute names you thought up yourself!

Thanks

Are you more looking for the everyday 90s-British feel of the majority of the students in the books ([name_m]Justin[/name_m], [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_f]Katie[/name_f]) or a touch of the more eccentric names held by the adults ([name_m]Phineas[/name_m], Merope, [name_f]Andromeda[/name_f])? I can definitely see the appeal of both.

This was really fun to compile. I ended up with just over 300 suggestions, so I arranged them into tables to keep the post a more reasonable length.

All these suggestions have deep roots, usually Latin, Greek, English, Welsh, Irish, and sometimes [name_m]French[/name_m]/[name_m]German[/name_m]/similar. I’ve grouped them according to outlandishness, and I gathered a lot of the more unusual ones since whimsical names are a matter of very specific taste, so I figure better to have lots of options.

@nimwey I love that you took the time to do this! Some fabulous names on here and I applaud the thought that has gone into this.

My personal top picks from your wonderful list would be [name_m]Scipio[/name_m] or Spiridion for a boy and Eudoxia or [name_f]Romola[/name_f] for girls. They truly are perfect [name_m]Potter[/name_m]-without-actually-being-[name_m]Potter[/name_m] names!

Thank you! I guess it pays to collect slightly antiquated naming books.

I also really like Spiridion, and I love that it comes with [name_m]Spiro[/name_m] as a nickname possibility. So many of these odd names have lovely sounds for attention-grabbing nicknames.
