Hello! I’ve been using the holiday weekend to explore my genealogy which is very well detailed on one side of my family.
I noticed a great (x a few) grandmother named Presocia. I thought it was interesting and looked a bit further where I found 7 more! The first Presocia was born in the mid 1600s and the latest I can find is a Presoshy born in the early 1800s.
From some amateur etymologizing, the pres is “close/near to” and the ocia is “ocean.”
Has anyone ever heard the name Presocia (or a variation) before? Or is it a name only in my family? Is my “meaning” at all valid?
And for the non-name historians: what do you think of it? Incredibly weird or surprisingly stylish?
I’m not sure I’m going to make any combos with it or use it anywhere, but my interest is definitely piqued;)
I haven’t heard of it before, but I immediately think of precious!
Your meaning interpretation is what I would think too.
It immediately made me think of the spanish word for precious, [name_f]Preciosa[/name_f]. I love finding unique family names!
I’ve never seen Presocia before but it does remind me of [name_f]Praskovia[/name_f], a Russian form of the Greek name [name_f]Paraskeve[/name_f], and [name_f]Preciosa[/name_f]. I wonder if it’s related to one of those two names.
How interesting!
I love cemeteries and genealogical charts for names.
Presocia to me looks like the word presocial but with the l left off.
It also (sorry) sounds like one of those awful conditions pregnant women can get (preeclampsia, sp?).
I don’t know how to pronounce it?
Wow what a find! It’s beautiful. I’d love to find a unique name like that on my family tree. If your meaning interpretation is correct then it’s got a lovely meaning too. I’m jealous!
I’ve been saying it like “pre/pruh-so-shuh” in part because, following the original Presocia, there was a Presosha and a Presoshy.
I wish that I really loved it immediately but I do have to admit that there’s something about it that I like more than some of the other “unique” names I’ve found while combing through the family tree
It is interesting. I have a male ancestor who was named Zabina [name_m]Flavius[/name_m] (first and middle) and I love that.
I’ve never seen it before!
Presocia is intriguing and I like your meaning
That’s so cool! I’ve definitely never heard of it! It would be a really cool middle name!
