Has anyone ever met a Rupert?

Oh, I think I got the characters mixed up. I was thinking of [name_m]Rufus[/name_m], the Nazi character from [name_m]Man[/name_m] in the High Castle. But, yes, the [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] character is handsome also.

We’re living in NZ and I think [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] would go down fine here because everyone would immediately call them Roo or [name_u]Rue[/name_u] to fit in with all the other more “casual” sounding names that seem popular for boys and men over here. Maybe it would be the same in Aus as it would be here NZ?

Never met a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] but it makes me think of [name_f]Princess[/name_f] Diaries movies and all the times in the movies you hear “[name_m]King[/name_m] [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_f]May[/name_f] he Rest In [name_u]Peace[/name_u].” So by default I get a royalty/ kingly vibe from it.

Ooooh! I’ve got to admit - I’m loving that this name is giving you a royal vibe!! :crown:

Yes - I think you’re spot on. Here in Aus, [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] would very likely be shortened. So thank goodness the nickname Ru is one that I really like

I’ve never met a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] before, I’m a nurse so I meet loads of people everyday! I live in [name_f]Scotland[/name_f] so I’m guessing it’s not as common here as it would be in [name_f]England[/name_f].

I love think of [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Giles[/name_m] from [name_f]Buffy[/name_f], so it’s a great association for me!

This is my favourite boys name, top of our list

It’s traditional but still unexpected, has strong vintage literary connotations, reminds me of the [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Bear[/name_m] books. Is super cute for when they’re young but there’s also a lot of famous Ruperts that show it ages well and I just generally think it’s a really elegant, strong boys name.

I have not

I know a Rupet he was so sweet. If your too nervous about using that name, what do you think of [name_m]Rufus[/name_m]? I feel like that’s pretty similar.

Hi my son is friends with a [name_m]Rupert[/name_m]. He is a lovely boy. Personally I prefer [name_m]Reuben[/name_m] which I think has the edge to [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] but it’s refreshing to hear names which are not used very often so I would say go for it.

I know several Ruperts! As someone suggested earlier on, it is a very Southern, upper middle class, boarding school kind of name, and that’s probably why I know a lot of them. eek! I know a teenage [name_m]Rupert[/name_m], and he’s never experienced any teasing because of his name. I personally think it’s a lovely warm name, and the immediate association I have of the name is with [name_m]Rupert[/name_m] [name_m]Bear[/name_m], a very endearing little cartoon character who dresses in tweed trousers! I say go for it xxx

It doesn’t sound strong and reminds me of Stewie’s teddy bear from Family [name_m]Guy[/name_m].
