I’ve always had a fondness for feminine forms of male names. [name_f]Roberta[/name_f], [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], [name_f]Georgina[/name_f], [name_f]Claudia[/name_f], [name_f]Philippa[/name_f]. I’ve always loved the name [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] in particular, but the fact that the [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] version is the most well known and popular always made me avoid the name. Does anyone else love [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think everyone would assume it was [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] or some other made up spelling?
Unfortunately I’ll have to confirm your fears and say that I do believe most will think [name_f]Makayla[/name_f], Mickaela, etc (not everyone but most; even I would be expecting a different variation as I see it happen more often than the [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelling).
The other spellings have just become so much more popular than [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] that they have become the normal way to spell the name…
PS: You are not alone in your love for [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. I adore it.
I say go with it, Mykala etc will fade, [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] will last as the female varient of [name_u]Michael[/name_u].
I know three variant spelled [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]'s one is [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], the other is [name_f]Micaela[/name_f] (the Italian spelling not a kr8ive spelling) and the last is [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] she’s the eldest. I think it depends on the person but everything can get spelt wrong my sisters gotten [name_u]Adel[/name_u] and [name_m]Edel[/name_m] for a classic name and it hasn’t killed her
I love [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]! I don’t think [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] and the other variants have ruined [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. If anything, it makes me love the original spelling even more. Like another poster said - the creative spellings will fade and [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] will always be THE female version of [name_u]Michael[/name_u].
[name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] (or [name_f]Makayla[/name_f]) made [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] more appealing. Spell it as your will, name isn’t ruined.
To me, [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelt the correct way makes the bearer seem more educated and intelligent…
it definitely hasn’t “ruined” [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] younger sister is a [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f], which was the most popular variant when she was born, my mum chose this spelling because she did like [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], but not enough to use, but didn’t like the idea of choosing a direct, obvious, femininization of [name_u]Michael[/name_u] as, when my sister and I were born (the wonderful 1990’s), [name_u]Michael[/name_u] was (and still is) incredibly popular.
[name_f]My[/name_f] sister is 15 years old, and whenever someone guesses how to spell her name, they actually use the [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelling, then [name_f]Makayla[/name_f], then [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f]. The [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelling is still very, very familiar and well known.
I do like the name, I think it’s beautiful, (yes, I prefer the [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] spelling, but I really do dislike when people refer to my sister’s name as ‘made up’, ‘creative’(in a negative way), or when it’s said to have ‘ruined’ something), but for obvious reasons, I cannot use it. I do however, still have [name_u]Michael[/name_u] on my list, as I see [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] as something totally separate from [name_u]Michael[/name_u].
[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is currently around #500 in the UK and is the only spelling that ranks, so that’s a good sign. In [name_u]North[/name_u] [name_u]America[/name_u] though, it appears to be long gone.
It was one of the first names that I thought was just beautiful (when I was growing up [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] Strachan was presenting a lot of children’s telly) but [name_f]McKayla[/name_f]/[name_f]Mikaela[/name_f]/[name_f]Makayla[/name_f] ruins it entirely for me.
I think the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation of [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is adorable though, it’s like MEE-kah-EE-lah.
@oliviasarah [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] (pronounced MEE-kah-EE-lah) is too cute!
I don’t think the different variants have necessarily “ruined” [name_f]Michaela[/name_f]. They are just alternate spellings, and [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] is still the original. I don’t see how the other spellings could detract from the beauty of [name_f]Michaela[/name_f], at least [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Variations like [name_f]Mikayla[/name_f] and [name_f]Makayla[/name_f] have become so popular on their own that I almost associate them as being different names, like [name_f]Alice[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
I like the spelling of [name_f]Michaela[/name_f] (so much better than [name_f]Makayla[/name_f]), but I prefer it pronounced [name_u]Michael[/name_u]-ah. But that’s just me.
I love the [name_m]German[/name_m] pronunciation too! It is soooo charming!
