Has Misha gone to the girls?

I live in [name]England[/name] and am unsure whether [name]Misha[/name] is too ‘girly’.

We once had a cat named [name]Misha[/name] and he died last year.
I’m sorry, I probably ruined it for you :frowning:
I think it has gone to the girls although the cat was a boy.

No, I wouldn’t be suprised to meet a boy named [name]Misha[/name]. I would probably assume he had Russian ancestry, though. However, if you’re concerned about it, name him some form of [name]Michael[/name] and use [name]Misha[/name] as a nn.

My only association with the name [name]Misha[/name] is [name]Misha[/name] [name]Collins[/name], so I wouldn’t assume [name]Misha[/name] was a girl. I would expect (and hope for) a man with Russian heritage. I wouldn’t think that a baby of this current generation would meet many Mishas, male or female. It feels dated along with the other “eesha/isha” names.

I’m a terrible name nerd. I had no idea that [name]Misha[/name] was a male name until now!

I think it depends on the local culture. For example, if lots of locals have a Russian or Eastern European background, I think it will be readily recognized as a masculine nickname for Mikhael. Otherwise, they might only think of the actress [name]Mischa[/name] [name]Barton[/name].

I know [name]Misha[/name]/[name]Mischa[/name] is a boy’s name but I have never met a male with this name. I live in Australia and know several women with this name, just no boys. I wouldn’t be surprised to meet a male [name]Misha[/name] though. I just feel there are other variants of [name]Michael[/name] that are nicer for men

Best Wishes x

It’s spelled [name]Mischa[/name]. And I think it’s more unisex now. For Americans anyway.

I would assume [name]Misha[/name] was a boy, possibly with the real name [name]Michael[/name]

[name]Misha[/name] is a nn for [name]Mikhail[/name]. [name]Mischa[/name] is an alternate spelling

I think of it as a girls name, and I think most people would… as in [name]Mischa[/name] [name]Barton[/name]. If I did meet a boy [name]Mischa[/name]/[name]Misha[/name], I’d expect them to be Russian.

I think of it as a unisex name, but leaning a bit more towards the female side of things (in the US at least). It’d be completely male if you were in [name]Russia[/name]. I’ve known one male and one female [name]Mischa[/name] (neither with any Russian roots), and it seemed natural on both of them.

I know a male [name]Misha[/name] (spelled like this) He is originally from Montenegro. I think this is a great name for men. I like it less on a woman.

Sorry, but outside [name]Russia[/name] I think it has gone to the girls.

Like [name]Sasha[/name]/[name]Sascha[/name], the soft sounds and -a ending make it sound quite feminine by some standards.

Same here! I consider it all girl…it just sounds like a girl name to me. Same for [name]Sasha[/name]. I knew a male [name]Sasha[/name] in college and thought it was so strange that he was named that.

Yea, I think of mischa barton, and although I know it’s traditionally a boy’s name, it sounds feminine to me.

As others have said, while i know it can be used as a male name, I have only ever know females with the name.

I really prefer this on a male. I went to school with a male [name]Mischa[/name] and met at least one or two others. I agree that it’s unisex now, but I think it’s definitely still usable on a little boy.

I’m from an area with a large Russian population, so I still consider [name]Misha[/name] a boy’s name. That being said, [name]Misha[/name] was the name of our family dog, who was a girl, because when I first heard the name when I was like eight years old, I thought it was such a pretty girl’s name. So short answer: at first listen, sounds like a girl’s name to my American ears, but soon learned about it’s roots and can see it go either way.

Oh, NO NO NO NO! Please trust me, as a person who has Slavic heritage, I actually shudder every time I see [name]Misha[/name] as a girl name! It’s 1000000%, a nickname for [name]Mikhail[/name], version of [name]Michael[/name]. [name]Misha[/name] is very masculine, don’t mind the vowel ending(almost every Russian nickname end in a vowel - [name]Sasha[/name], [name]Dima[/name], [name]Danya[/name], [name]Vanya[/name], [name]Misha[/name], [name]Grisha[/name], [name]Gosha[/name], [name]Fedya[/name] are all BOY names(nicknames)).
[name]Misha[/name] as a nn [name]Mikhail[/name] is a great boy name, don’t worry:)

I thought the exact same thing when I saw this thread! I just always presumed it was a girl’s name.
