So I have started falling in love with the names [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] and [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] (tbh prefer this spelling despite my usual complaints lol) however they have been commonly associated with “exotic dancers”. However their popularity has significantly wained since their hayday so I was wondering
Has the dust settled on [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] and [name_f]Krystal[/name_f]
Yes both names are perfectly fine
Yes both names are fine but only if [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] is spelt with a C
Yes but only [name_f]Destiny[/name_f]
Yes but only [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] spelt with a C
Yes but only [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] regardless of spelling
I do find both a little dated but perfectly fine to use! I prefer the [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] spelling as well. I wouldnt listen to anyone who describes them as stripper names. They’re ignorant, rude & need to grow up a little bit
[name_f]Destiny[/name_f] fits in with more “current” names like [name_u]Genesis[/name_u], [name_f]Trinity[/name_f], [name_u]Journey[/name_u]. [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] sounds more dated, but still usable.
I definitely see the connotation but it doesn’t bother me.
This is hilarious when people say that some names are stripper’s names. Not only because these “accusations” have no logic behind them (what about criminal’s names? again, basically every name - not gonna use those too? - no name would be left “untouched”), but because they disparage somebody’s work/profession based on their own obsolete templates, short mindness and ignorance, not having a clue what other people are going through.
Both aren’t my taste unfortunately. [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] is better than [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] to me, though. Also, [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] > [name_f]Krystal[/name_f]. There’s a fast food chain called [name_f]Krystal[/name_f], so I would go with the original spelling.
I have seen the spelling [name_f]Kristal[/name_f] also.
For me I think separately there isn’t really an issue. Although [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] does seem a little dated. But if you’re looking to make a sibset I’d give it more time.
I like [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] (I prefer this spelling). It was never hugely popular where I live, so I don’t find it that dated. There aren’t loads of Crystals around here in the same way that there are loads of Emmas and Sarahs and Amys. [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] is just not my style.
ETA: I don’t associate these names with exotic dancers, but strip clubs aren’t a thing where I live so I wouldn’t know what the popular names are.
I think people often tie meanings to names that hold no actual truth. Sometimes they catch on in wider society, and names become associated with things that they initially had nothing to do with. I’ve met both Destinys and Krystals in my time and none of them have been exotic dancers - not that it would be a bad thing if they had! People can do whatever makes them happy.
Although, it does seem, based on the poll, these names are heavily tied to something that’s considered undesirable in our society. For this reason, I’d probably hesitate before pairing these names together in a combination or as a sib-set.
At the end of the day, both names are useable. They always have been, and they always will be. Go for what you love - it’s not like you’re wanting to name your child after a disease! Both names have lovely meanings - I’d spend my time focusing on those, rather than the association.
I didn’t really see the connection, I actually thought of a pretty controversial youtuber who has dated both a [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] and a [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] (but I don’t think this will be a common association)
Personally I think they are fine as a sibset, I do prefer [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] but [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] is still lovely as well
I am so alarmed to see multiple people speak out in support of the exploitation and objectification of women. That said, I wish I could say I’ve met many sophisticated women named [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] and [name_f]Krystal[/name_f], but I haven’t. I’m sure they’re out there, though. I love to meet women that prove their name stereotypes wrong.
Both are fine, but I strongly prefer [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] with a C personally (and think most people would assume that spelling), so I went for option 2.
Destiny seems like a perfectly mainstream choice to me, [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] is perhaps a little dated but with gem names making a comeback I can see it fitting in.
Umm, where was I speaking out “in support of the exploitation and objectification of women”? I’m strongly against this. What I was saying is that it’s not acceptable when people look down and decry workers in an adult entertainment industry (be it men or women) because they don’t know what kind of life situation/struggles made them get into this industry.
For me, it’s not about the “stripper associations”, but just that these still feel like overdone word names, by which I mean they just feel dated. In that sense, they still need more time before they will reach their revival period.
What about some fresher word names? [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] and [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] feel empowering and luxurious. Other word names that come to mind:
I love [name_f]Destiny[/name_f], and I quite like the [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] spelling. The only reason I was ever put off [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] was because of some nasty things said on another naming site.
I don’t know if the dust has settled yet though, the two of them and my beloved [name_f]Desiree[/name_f] still get a lot of negative attention for that association. As do [name_f]Emerald[/name_f] and [name_f]Sapphire[/name_f], I’m afraid (I love them too)
I think both these names are ok to use but [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] strikes me as a mostly black/ African American name. Probably because of the band [name_f]Destiny[/name_f]’s Child. It’s a nice name and sounds sophisticated to me!
Krystal/Crystal is the more problematic name for me since when I really think about it I think about drugs unfortunately. I’m sure I’ve met some Crystals and it’s a pretty name but I wouldn’t name my own kid [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] if that makes sense.
I don’t think either of these are bad. They’re not my favourites but I think they fit in with modern word name trends i do prefer [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] spelled this way though
I grew up with several girls with the name [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] in my class so I never associated it with an exotic dancer name personally. It does remind me of the dairy brand though!
Destiny to me is a little more exotic dancer-esk I guess.
I do think its weird that we assume all exotic dancers have the same 6 stage names though! Where is the creativity in that? Im pretty by now even exotic dancers have mixed it up. For all we know they go by [name_f]Jennifer[/name_f] or [name_f]Tess[/name_f] or something totally normal but I get your ask - just name stereotypes.
I’m not a fan of [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] but its not because I associate it with exotic dancers. [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] isn’t my style either but it does have that literal prettiness to it due to the gem.
These names are just both very 80s to me but I also think they could be ready for a comeback so I dont think they are bad.
I personally love [name_f]Desiree[/name_f] - which is another name associated with exotic dancers but its just so soft and pretty. That one is a guilty pleasure for me!
Crystal to me is meth and the 80’s and with a K, even more so. [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] is a hard name to wear, like Manifest or [name_f]Karma[/name_f].
I do think perhaps there might be an unfortunate association with that profession, however silly that is. I think names like [name_f]Cookie[/name_f], [name_f]Candy[/name_f], and [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] may fall into that trap too.
They are both fine names though. I have been stuck myself with a name that can be spelled multiple ways and people always spell it wrong, so I advise against [name_f]Krystal[/name_f] because that will likely be an issue there.
I like the name [name_f]Destiny[/name_f], [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] is fine - though not my cup of tea, but because they are both “thing”/object names - definitely avoid a middle name that is also a thing/object. ex. [name_f]Crystal[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f], or [name_f]Destiny[/name_f] [name_f]Meadow[/name_f], etc
