Hattie

I really like the name Hattie, but I debate if it can stand alone or if it needs a formal name. Admittedly I went to school with a Hatty, but I’m curious what people think.

And if you think it’s a nickname, what names go with it? (Other than Harriet)

In general, I prefer giving a formal name rather than using nicknames as a standalone name.

But [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is the exception for me. I think it works best on its own. I have known one [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] & one [name_f]Hadassah[/name_f] NN [name_u]Hadi[/name_u] (& she really disliked her full name).

I like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] a lot, but it would be nice if it came with a formal name too for options.

[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]? [name_f]Henriette[/name_f]? [name_f]Arrietty[/name_f]? [name_f]Helen[/name_f]?

I do think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] alone could work too.

I think it can work just fine on its own! Nickname names are very popular right now, especially in the UK and Australia, so I don’t think a just-Hattie would be weird at all.

If other names that are just as short and “cutesy”, but aren’t nicknames, like Daisy or Lily or Poppy can work, why not Hattie?

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is great on her own! Such a lovely name, and totally enough to be a standalone name, along the lines of [name_f]Hallie[/name_f], [name_f]Hayley[/name_f], [name_u]Harry[/name_u], [name_m]Hank[/name_m], etc. A snappy, sweetie H name.

[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] and [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] are my favorite long forms—though some more cool options might be [name_f]Heather[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u], [name_u]Hyacinth[/name_u], [name_u]Hartley[/name_u], [name_f]Hester[/name_f], [name_f]Heart[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], or [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]! (Admittedly, some are more of a stretch than others.)

[name_f]Hattie[/name_f] is lovely and I think it totally stands alone! I’ve known two just Hatties

Besides [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], it could be a nickname for:

[name_f]Henrietta[/name_f]
[name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] (maybe?)
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] (maybe - especially with a T middle? or something like [name_f]Hannah[/name_f] Matilda/Matilde)

UK perspective so it’s much more normal here, but I think [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] works completely fine as a stand alone name.

It can definitely stand alone! The only one I know of (I do not know her personally) is an interior design influencer on ig named [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] Kolp and I believe she’s said it’s her full name before

[name_f]My[/name_f] vote is for a standalone as [name_f]Hattie[/name_f].

I understand the concerns and reasoning with having a full name. However, to me, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] is the obvious choice and I don’t like it near as much as [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]. And I also sort of hate the idea of picking a name when I really only like the nickname, so
I say just go for it and use [name_f]Hattie[/name_f]. I love it!

I really like [name_f]Hattie[/name_f] as a stand-alone name!

It sounds cool-retro and sweet. I much prefer it to the full name [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], which is the first name that would come to mind as a full name. I think of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] as well. Some more uncommon names that I think would work are: [name_f]Hypatia[/name_f], [name_f]Heart[/name_f], [name_f]Hestia[/name_f]. Maybe [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] could work but it would be a stretch.

I love it as an unexpected nickname for [name_f]Catherine[/name_f],
[name_f]Mathilda[/name_f], [name_f]Nathalie[/name_f] , [name_f]Hildegarde[/name_f] or a standalone name !
