Have I chosen the right spelling?

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all,

I am questioning myself again. I have chosen the name [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as my new first name but I am questioning whether or not I should use [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] instead as [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] is the family spelling. Could anyone way in and let me know what you think I should do please? Would you use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] or [name_f]Lucie[/name_f]?

Thanks in advance.

Thank you to all who commented. I have decided to go with Lucy.

I think it depends how you feel. [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is the instinctive spelling that other people will most likely use/guess, but if [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] is a family spelling and you like it, that might be nice too.

I would definitely use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you have one spellings that you’re slightly leading towards? If it is [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] and if you don’t mind having to correct people then go ahead and use it. Personally I slightly prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] but I think both are nice.

I prefer the spelling [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], it’s neater and the ‘up’ of the L contrasts nicely with the ‘down’ of the y.
But, if you feel more connected to [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] because it is a family spelling that’s ok. You will have to correct people more often but that’s not the end of the world.
Personally I would use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], if [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] is a family name then [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is still the same name but with your own spelling, I would still count it as an honour/family name regardless of spelling.

[name_m]Even[/name_m] though I have [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] on my signature I actually love the [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] spelling. I think there is one European woman who inspires this for me as I usually go for the ordinary. Which feels better for you?

Both are beautiful, I think [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] has a softer feel…

They’re both lovely and good options so it comes down to personal choice. I really like both.

In favour of [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] is, as pps have said, the most expected and well known, the default spelling, and it can be good to spell in the regular way.

In favour of [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] is the family connection and that sometimes it’s nice to be a bit different or distinctive; on the other hand you will have sometimes to correct people.

I toss between those 2 options, though for you I think [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] might be good.

I would use [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] as it is the traditional spelling and your daughter will appreciate having her name always spelled correctly  at least almost always. There are always some people who are terrible spellers no matter what lol.

I think it is easier to go with [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

I prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], but if you prefer [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] you should use that. It’s not a big deal to use the more uncommon spelling for this name.

I much prefer [name_f]Lucy[/name_f]

I prefer the [name_f]Lucy[/name_f] spelling and it is what I would automatically go for in an English speaking country.

I actually love both, but somehow I tend to pronounce [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] Loo-chee, like the Italian pronunciation of [name_f]Lucia[/name_f] minus the -a ending. Not sure why, as the only [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] I’ve ever known was from [name_m]Wales[/name_m] instead. I think it really depends on which one you feel more connected to.

I personally prefer [name_f]Lucie[/name_f] to [name_f]Lucy[/name_f], just because it feels more complete and less nickname-y than [name_f]Lucy[/name_f].
