Have you ever met an Atlas?

I love [name_m]Atlas[/name_m], we either wanted [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] (we went with [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]), and a friend of my family photographer just named her son [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] (he is a few months old). I think it is a distinguished name, and works well in our current naming society.

It’s quite sweet. I’ve never met one and don’t think I will (at least not living in Germany). Here it’s mainly associated with a book of maps and since they’re used quite often in school and word names are almost unheard of (if it wouldn’t have the mythological association it would probably be forbidden here), I don’t think it would be a wise choice to name your kid [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] in Germany. It would probably earn him a lot of laughs in school when everyone has to grap their Atlases (plural?).

No, but I wish I had. Such a stunningly beautiful and strong name. One of my favorites for boys.

Thank you all for your replies and support so far. since posting this I feel my heart is truly set. DH loves it too. [name_f]Happy[/name_f]!

We would still like to hear from those of you who have met/would like to meet an [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] as I feel I need to know how it works on an actual person!

Thanks y’all!!!x

I’ve kind of met an [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. He’s due to be born in [name_u]March[/name_u]! My best friend/practically sister is naming her son [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] [name_u]James[/name_u]. She was on the search for something unusual but strong and has a great love for astrology and traveling. She was afraid it’s come off as odd but decided to go with it once she mentioned it to her mom and she got a great reaction from it. Turns out her moms favorite mythological story is of [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. Her husband wanted [name_u]James[/name_u] as the mn to call him AJ (family reasons) but she plans on just calling him [name_m]Atlas[/name_m]. I know an [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] so [name_m]Atlas[/name_m] doesn’t seem so out there to me at all.
