I am due in [name]June[/name] with our second boy and came across the name “[name]Sloan[/name]” on my old list. I love this name but am worried b/c it is primarily used for girls with the spelling “[name]Sloane[/name]”. However, the meaning of the name is “fighter;warrior” and it draws me even more to the name. It also goes well with [name]Indy[/name], our first sons name. So do you think [name]Sloan[/name] is suitable for a boy and what middle name would you pair with it? Our last name starts with an S. Honest opinions pls!
Honestly, I don’t really consider [name]Sloan[/name] unisex regardless of spelling. It just seems feminine to me, and whenever I hear the name, I automatically think it refers to a girl. If you’re quite fond of it, [name]Sloan[/name] would be fine as a middle name.
To be honest, I really really really dislike [name]Sloan[/name]/e, even for a girl, and I like it even less on a boy. I just don’t think it has any attractive sounds in it.
Sorry.
I automatically think of [name]Sloane[/name] [name]Peterson[/name] in [name]Ferris[/name] [name]Bueller[/name]. I know it’s not a contemporary movie but I would consider it a classic and it makes me think of [name]Sloane[/name] as only a girl’s name. I do like it as a name, though.
I think [name]Sloan[/name]/e has the potential to be unisex. It was originally a surname which has been uncommonly used as a female name. In my opinion it doesn’t sound particularly feminine. The only [name]Sloane[/name] I ever heard of is the one from the [name]Ferris[/name] [name]Bueller[/name] movie and my insurance lady’s daughter. I know a lot of people who have never heard the name [name]Sloan[/name]/e before, and wouldn’t know which sex it belongs to. That being said, I wouldn’t be brave enough to use it on a boy.
I love [name]Sloan[/name]/e and it is not at all feminine. [name]Even[/name] though I like the name on both genders, when I hear [name]Sloan[/name]/e I think of a boy.
It sounds great with [name]Indy[/name]
I’ve always felt [name]Sloan[/name] was a little too heavy for girls, and I’d think it be kind of refreshing on a little boy. (Though truthfully I’m not afraid of using truly unisex names on boys some of my favorites are [name]Ashley[/name], [name]Quincy[/name], [name]McKenzie[/name] etc…) and I think since [name]Indy[/name] can be unisex [name]Sloane[/name] would fit right in.
I kind of love it. I have zero problem with using names that are more frequently used on girls on boys. A few of my favorite boys’ names fall in that category. I like [name]Sloan[/name] on a boy more the more I think about it, and I think it goes well with [name]Indy[/name].
It seems very masculine to me (and I even know a little girl named [name]Sloane[/name]).
But I’d never use a name that began with ‘slow’ and included ‘loan’/‘lone’
It seems feminine to me… but maybe it’s because I always pn it as slow-anne, and the anne part just screams girl imo. Not sure how it’s supposed to be pn, but if it is like Loan with with an S in front so Slown… then it would be more masculine.
I hate this name for girls or boy… Sorry
